Understand a map...and also pay attention...

So....maybe its the X3 special or the general player standard is going down, it seems to me that some players (especially those in tier 9 and 10 tanks) are performing poorly...so poor that I feel bad for them...these players are more experienced (i assume they grind their way towards the top of the tech tree) and yet they make very bad decisions in game, just becoz of a simple reason...they understand the map....but fail to look at the situation.
Here is an example> In mines, everyone knows that taking the hill in the middle of the map grant your team a better view, tanks go up the hill can scout and snipe at targets almost everywhere around the map, thus helping to pin down your enemy's advance. However, some of the players who realize this fact, fail to see if it is viable for them to take the hill. If, your team is compose of mainly HTs, and the opposite team is mainly MTs, it is pretty obvious that the hill is theirs. Here I am not saying that going to the hill is wrong, just assuming they can reach there faster, players shouldnt rush up to the hill eventhough they see a bunch of enemy tanks are crowding at the hill. Doing this equals to suicide...coz you are lit up in an open field...all it takes is a track shot...then u're almost done. Eventhough you make it up to the hill...you are almost dead and the enemy can easily crush you. How many times i hv seen an IS8/IS7 rush up to hill...and got killed....What you have to do is just sit and hurt the enemy tanks which go up to the hill....let them take the hill does not equals to giving up the game...
Another example is el halluf, the famous camp map. This map i think everyone also knows there is a sweet spot where HTs will meet each other.. (The corner at A1/A2 side). This place is a gd spot for the defending team, while a grave for the attack team if there is presence of artys. Its a camp map...so we have to expect that ppl will camp...and not many tanks are lit up during early time of the game....the only spot of the game is at A1/A2...which the attack team trying to climb up the hill....and here come the problem....why people after so many matches in this map (this is an old map)..fail to see that advancing there is not viable usually? The slope is too steep...eventhough traditional hull down tank like T34/T30 cannot take a clean shot easily at the enemy guarding there...let alone the IS8 and IS7...I have seen pp trying to rush up there, take a shot..then backdown..usually got themselves 20-30% HP due to arty shots....It again does not mean that going there is wrong...somebody must be there to prevent enemy from rushing down....but if the game is an arty fest...just keep the enemy spotted and divert their attention...so that teammates on the other side can work...
These are just two common examples...i'm sure there are more of them...feel free to share and add them...so that we can learn and improve together

It kills me when I see on the arctic map, in an arty heavy game, people going down the hill in the west to poke around the corner. Sure, it isn't a bad idea for 1 to poke around to see what's coming, but it astounds me when I see 3 or 4 play peek-a-boo there and get absolutely chewed to bits by enemy arty. Stay on top of the hill and let them come to your arty instead. I'm no tactician, but it seems fairly obvious to me.

yeah another example could be the idiots on el halluf that rush down into the pit, normally it would be fine but when i see an amx 50 100 120 or 50 b or any other fat heavy rush down there i just look back and think really? a 15 k repair bill all in the hopes of spotting a handful of similerly eager tanks? not to mention you now become pinned for the remainder of the game, anyways u bring up a good point and i agree totally

Yeah its amazing how ignorant people can be on that map. One time in a Churchill I was staying on top of the hill then 4-5 tanks had to go down the hill to play peek-a-boo. Within the first 2 minutes of battle all of them were dead. But on the positive side I was able to kill aton of enemys, before the arty got me.

Agree in principle, buut someone must go look, and if they are not serious abou tadvancing, it may be worth a tank or two keepin gthem busy there, and the rest go to where they are better used. On occasion they are counting on you to cap the corner and they just sen da couple tanks to keep YOU sitting there. Basically, it's situation dependant, and the only way to know what's right is to have SA, which means at least taking a look.

There is a difference between peeking and being a target. Not much difference sometimes, but it can make or break the game. Patience and persistence -- often confused with camping -- are the key in many positions. "Tank Hill" on El Halluf, Lakeville's Valley of Death, and a lot of other locations depending on circumstances. Let the other guy make the mistakes. Give him time to make them. Stay in arty-safe positions and let them come to you.Three tanks holding can do in four tanks poking their snouts out too far one or two at a time.
Peeking is an art. Going forward barely enough to light up whatever's on the other side of the hill and backing off instantly is a good job for a fast, usually light or medium, tank. There's a time to hang behind the big heavies and watch their butts, and a time to help even more by going ahead. Arty can't find targets without someone spotting, but spotting doesn't always mean getting killed.
So often I watch my teammates get slaughtered one by one, trying to get one shot and taking two, leaving me to face multiple enemies when they all come around the corner / over the hill at once. My rate of fire isn't fast enough to take them all. I'd like to teach by example, but when nobody pays attention, I'm just wasting my time in another loser mess.

Yep...thats what I will do usually....but two tier 10s guarding there...your rest of the team are gonna get laid....
depending on the rest of the team's make up of course. Either way, I wouldn't take an E-100 out into the open unless there was no arty; but now we're getting a little too deep into the screenshot. It's the defensive concept we're talking about.

The T110 doesn't belong there but the E-100 is fine..

We had 6 tier 10s. I was in the 110 and we won losing only 3 tanks
