Too bad the Soviet didn't use captured German tanks. Instead, they use their own tanks, and many times, the dogs ran under the Soviet tanks because that's what they were trained to do. Talk about irony...
Edit: 99 posts??

Quote
Sadly, a small number of dogs were suffering from combat stress or were otherwise deemed unfit to be repatriated; after attempts to rehabilitate them failed they were euthanized.
Why put them down? Use the dog in active duty for the rest of their lifetime...

AT dogs? Now that would be intersting to see them put into World of Tanks, only they have tracks.

there is a fact missing its rally kind of sad . The part im talking about is that when the war had ended and the soldiers were leaving the dog handlers were told that the dogs they had come to know , love and trusted with their lives were to be left there. The goverment saw them as nothing more than equipment and all equiipment is left behind . These heroic animals were tied up to sticks in and around the camps.IT was only after many pettitons, protests and lobying by faimlys of the soldiers , animal rights activists and most importantly the US citizens that the goverment rethought how these dogs were clasified. The goverment reclasified the dogs as personel instead of equipment . After the reclasification rescue parties were sent out to the last know locaitions of these dogs . What they found is tragic those dogs that couldnt get off of their teathers were either dead or almost dead those found alive were brought back to the states for processing . Those that escaped their teathers were left to fend for theirselves. it took several months for the lobbying and reclasification to be happen and another month before the rescue teams were sent out .

Okay first of all... Harry... I now bow down to your mindboggling avatar...
Second: It really does suck to have people think that it was only dogs that helped us out in the war.
There were horses, cats, and yes, even pigeons.
Funny thing is, the pigeons played a more important role than dogs, or at least in the part of winning the war... In the case of saving men, that goes to the dogs
Excellent article, it is these kind of articles that gets you to appreciate what our Grandparents/Parents did for this country, or even this world, even gets me to appreciate the animals that were in the war as well...
"Courage is not what we think of, it is what we do... It's not what we were born with, it is something that we must earn...
It is the idea of facing the gravest of dangers in your perspective, that is courage...
Sending your child to war, every parent's worst nightmare, but they endure it, this is courage...
Seeing your kids grow up and graduate high school, not necassarily a nightmare, but it's something that will be sad... And yet you push on through and be happy and proud, that is courage...
Courage is also when we do something that we know is right, and yet we are scared to do it, but we do...
Courage is that soldier that puts himself over the grenade to save his platoon mate......
Courage is when we fire a gun to save our country, or your honor.....
Courage is something we aren't born with, it is something we make... It is hope, it is what pushes us forward, past any hard times...
Courage isn't what we think of.... It is what we fear of doing, and we go and do it...
And Courage is something we can all recieve, just as long as we face what we fear...
Even if you think you're a coward... Face your fear, and you've become courageous...
Even if you are brave or heoric... Facing your fears, you receive courage...
Asking your loved one out, that is courage...
Raising your hand to ask if the teacher could repeat the question... Courage...
Going up in front of the class to do a speech... Courage...
Whether you believe it or not, we can all be courageous, we just have to go out and do what we fear of doing..."
Thank you for your time,
Teru

Should have included some pictures of the American Pitbull Terriers. They used them in WWII to rid the bunkers of rodents and to help guard the bunkers of any intruders.
