German TD's worth the effort to keep...

I went down the whole german td line first in this game before going to any other tanks. Like many the JPanther is one of my favorites and has more battles then my E-50. The ferdi when upgraded I Love and still play to get the star off now that I have 175,000 Exp built up on it for the new TD whenever it comes out.
Jagtiger, bought it LOVED the gun on that thing. But sold it because your chance of even making it through a battle are really slim. It get penned by every tank its likely to see, has zero camo. the french scouts can get beside you and hold you in place and the BS arty, well its just BS. Wish I wouldn't have spent the money on it. Which will probably be ho I feel about the Stug E-100 after a couple weeks of playing it elited.

I hated the JP..after playing the stug which seemed much more funner to me...no matter what I just couldnt win in the JP and was so happy to grind up to the ferdie. The ferdie is by far.. my favorite tank in wot. That thing is a beast with the big cannon and if angled can bounce shots and is just fun to play. The MM favors the ferdie as well and I made xp and cash easily with it. Sold the ferdie to get the JT and so far I like the JT, once I get the big gun then I can make a fair assessment if it was worth the grind. The JT seems to take hits that my ferdie bounced and its an artillery magnet so I'm using a camo net plus my crew is camoeing up and it seems to work.. cant wait till all reach 100% in camo. I am enjoying playing it as it can dish out a world of hurt with the stock gun. As soon as I get enough money I'm going to buy ferdie back to be my credit and cash maker as the JT eats my money some if I have a bad game. Overall the ferdie makes the TD line well worth researching!

Stick with the JP. Elite, the JP is a beast. Once you get the 105, Match maker mis-matches will be a lot less painful. Binoculars, rammer, and a large tool box will help you. Don't bother with camo net, the small amount of concealment that it affords isn't worth it. Hang back and choose your battles, you will be rewarded. I have over 550 matches in the JP with over 860 kills and I am an average player.

All TD's are pretty useless IMO, German line being a bit better than the Americans late tier IMO, but USSR the best.
The German TD's have only one good trait, accuracy. They are mediocre or below average in all other areas.
go Russian. That's the only one worth grinding
T95 can't move, JagdTiger shoots BB's. 704 is the fastest of the two and has the best gun and camo=obvious choice.

I loved my Jp, I might buy another one some day. Ferdi is loads of fun too plus its awesome looking and has a great gun for a tier 8. The Jt is big turd but I like it as well, great ROF and accuracy. My two least favorite things about it are the lower glacius weakspot and its camouflage ability. You couldn't hide this thing even if you were behind Maus that was parked sideways behind a barn that was inside a warehouse that was in an underground bunker deep in a hillside on the moon.
All in all I really enjoyed the German TD line from the Stug on up. Looking forward to the Russian grind.

Don't bother with German TDs unless you're a really good player.
^-- l agree entirely. For people who do not want to read my (short-story of crap) in-game studies, experiences, and meditations of these tanks, just follow Silty. He is really right, and summed the TD line up quite quickly, in a short sentence.
Every time l complain about the German TDs, l get "well it was your choice, you went down that tech tree, l told you so" by my peers. Engine knocked out, engine fires, ammo rack, driver dead, low Pen - you name it.
l have to say though, German TDs are accurate, and a very easy tech tree to get sniper medals. lf you are into that sort of stuff (sniper medals mean very little) Jag Panther corrects a lot of the problems in the tech tree, having nice combo of firepower, mobility, and frontal armour. lt still lights on fire though, and has weak (real weak) flanks. Making it a one-shot to tier 5 arty. Ferdinand, l have to agree with Glythe. Ferdinand 2Ocm of front armour hardly ever seems like it is 2Ocm. l get hit by pershings, lS, and Ty59 all the time. lts front sloped headlight areas, and mud guards above tracks are huge weakspots, Pen by tier 5 weapons. lts gun is in a free mount tube, even the 12.8 upgrade does not change the mount - this is fustrating because it does not have a gun 'sleeve' like German tanks with Schmulturm turret, making the gun mantle bouncy. 0r the King tiger and E75 sleeve. This is a huge problem because Ferdi has its gun damaged all the time, even by hits straight into the gun that do N0 TANK DAMAGE, they just knock out your gun. l have had many games, where l have had my gun broken twice (after wrench kit repair) Smart players even in small or low tier tanks, frequently just piss me off by shooting me in the gun, for no damage, but RUlNlNG my gun. Ferdinand also needs 9O OOO exp in it, for the tracks, 12.8cm and 1st engine up before it remotely becomes playable - enough to fustrate many players. l advise playing the German Maus heavy tree, for VK45A and VK45 AuSB before playing Ferdi, as you unlock critical mobility (engines the same) that way. And for the love of all thats holy, get clutch braking as a skill. Do not drive the tank with lower crew % than 8O, you are punishing yourself. lts 12.8 is much needed, but l still get the feeling l am short changed. lts damage/Pen is not BL1O, and fire rate and Pen are not T28 12cm. lt also seems to produce real silly bounces at times, and for some reason my 63O damage HE never knocks out tier 4 scouts. lts really fustrating. l really do not see a problem in giving the Ferdi Jag tigers weapon, it deserves as much. l am not here to knock Ferdi, many people swear by it and are machines of death, but my experience with it has been real middling and average, and fustrating. Sadly, l can not look up for the jag tiger either, as it tends to get a lot of negative reception.
For the German TD line.....sigh..what can l say. Unless you are a good, stalwart player, that is very intelligent, theoretical, tactical, and have photographic memory for the games numbers (0h, this game has a lot, lot, lot, lot of numbers) you will struggle with the German line. lts is plagued by many things the other TD lines are free of. The Hetzer, StuH, JagPZIV, Jag Panther, ferdi - l have all played them extensively, and pretty much have posted respective scores with them. Yes, l even did alright with the JagPZIV, a true accomplishment. But apart from the jag panther, and even the jag panther many times - it seems this tech tree is just around to incite rage in people. Jag tiger, the end of the line, is almost never brought into clan wars, and at pubs will only be a game-factor at 5OOm - closing in on it dooms it. So, ask yourself, is this the tech tree for you? mind you, 7.5 will have the release of the new German TD tree, perhaps stuff will be different there. The Germans will likely get the L71 8.8 tier 6 with the Nashorn, a probably revolutionary yet glass cannon TD dealer of death. Perhaps that will make all the difference, as it unlocks the L71 8.8 for jagpanther.
For those that wish to see it, it will be StuH->JagPZIV->Jag Pan->Jag Pan II->Jag Tiger
Dicker->Nas->Emil->Ferdi->StuH1OO
People that have the Ferdi will get a straight window into the new Tier 9 StuH1OO, and if you keep your jagpanther the 7O thousand some EXP grind will get you a Jag panther II. And as well, people with the Ferdi will likely have the Jag tiger already anyway.
I understand I come across as really negative, perhaps unfairly to the German line, and understand that l maybe flooded by negative Reps for it - but l consider myself a German TD ace. And for the most part, have the experience and stats to back that. l am playing the Russian TD tree too, and find that much more welcoming, forgiving, and forboding due to unlockables (true potential) l will say this now, and say what l said before, enter the German TD tree but be warned about fustration. lt produces a lot. 0therwise, if you are a small percent of the people that are out there just to win sniper medals, and go for 1O-1O, 11-11, 12-12, Etc in hit accuracy a game, before dying due to engine fire.....perhaps German TDs are just for you.

I solely play German TD's. I have all of them and play them daily. The only one I don't like is the Jagdpanzer IV. Although I still play it in the hope that something good will come of it, as of yet nothing.
I agree that the best all around German tank destroyer is the Jagdpanther. The Ferdinand is an assult tank. I play it very aggressivly. I do also love my Jagdtiger now, but it's taken very long to understand it's role and how to use it. It's basically a support tank/defender tank. My only complaint with the Jagdtiger is since patch 7.3 the gun is constantly being destroyed. I don't know if that's a bug or intentional but for a section of a tank, any tank for that matter that's suppose to be the thinkest armored it seems to be very easily penned to destory the gun. I never had this problem before the patch.
Other than that. I would suggest getting it.
There is a thread in the German tank destroyer forum that has other players willing to help anyone that has a problem running the Jagdtiger.

Since they nerfed the accuracy on the TD's I would hesitate about getting one. that said I have all the top german TD's.
The JP get alot better, and put a rammer on it and the fire rate is great.
The tank is much better then in beta but still dies way too easily for a sloped tank. Yes MM will put you in T10 battles a lot. i was in 10 battles in a row against teir tens.
The ferdi was a beast
but now I find the 128 is half as good. It pens only half the time now or just misses. Before it seems to stop everything now nothing. Still a good tank.
I don't mind the JT. you need to go hull down in this tank or hide behind a rock and be able to shoot over the top of the rock. If you expose your lower glacis plate your dead pronto. Best gun in the game.
Unfortuately I must agree with Glythe on German Td's don't get them.

I wasn't saying don't get German TDs; I was saying don't get German tanks. IS-7 is better than Maus in every way except health but the armor is better than more health. New tier 10 guns laugh at the nerfed Maus armor values. The E100 was a complete joke after they nerfed gold rounds and isn't even worth mentioning. The E50 was also nerfed by the loss of normalization and is sub par to every other medium now (doesn't have a best role without good frontal armor anymore).
I am a diehard fan of the German tree and I have everything unlocked. I've had my ferdinand with 180k of research for several months now just so I'll have the complete tree later.
But remember that the GW-E is awesome!

with the exception of the marder II everthing incl. the stug III is rubbish, mostly, cause it is placed into to high level battles and so i stopped exactly with the stug III. compare the su 85 with the stug III the su was much more fun, but reduced too, cause now placed too in too high level battles ( the old problem, they have too few players ). so... fed up with this, i am not interested with this stupid role as burning candle. and i have had a nod bad win rate in the stug III ... but it is wotrth for nothing in the role it is used now: a scout ...lol...
Its not just the issue of (too) high tier battles, its the fact they have a ton of disatvantages for waht...maybe some camo bonus (forget it over tier 6) maybe some accuracy bonus (5 % aka negligable) and slightly higher ROF (like thats going to make any difference when you fire the almost useless short 88 at anything above tier 5).
Anything else than Marder 2 and maybe, maybe Hetzer, is subpar to any AFV of the same tier, best example is the overrated Stug 3 with the same gun like the panzer 4 medium, or the Jagdpanzer 4 compared to Vk3601.
German TDs, 90 % of the time are a steaming pile of t&rd, and no winrate of any better than average player, can change that.

jagpanther with the 105 is pretty good. not so much in the high tier fights but in a tier 8 fight it is very nice.
ferdi is awesome.
jagdtiger is good if played right.
im still gonna grind them because i love the ferdi, currently at the jagpanther

In almost every case, a heavy tank performs the role better, and can do many more things. No player I have yet seen that plays TDs and other tanks equally has been better with their TDs in stats, almost always the opposite. They kick butt with mediums and heavies, and do mediocre with TDs. TDs have no role in this game currently with the incredible gun creep of heavies and mediums. They have all the problems with nothing to really offset it.
JT is not worth it. Want to play a TD? Go American, French, or Russian heavy. They all have 270 ish penetration, high DPM, accurate guns, but have more hps, are more mobile, have a turret and are more fun.

If you are a good player? Yes. If you aren't? No.
The Jagdtiger has a fairly high entrance bar to do well in, but that said it's one of the better Tier 9 TDs out there.

I played German TDs in the beta, way back when, and I... can't remember them too well >.>
I CAN remember NOT having a lot of rage towards my Jagdpanzer IV, but that's probably because I'm not the kind of person who shouts at my tools when I fail.
I got to the Jagdpanther and honestly can't remember much of it, either. This was back when I was a lot more of a noob than I am now, so I probably did pretty bad with it. I remember that it was pretty speedy though.

Long ago I have made a thread comparing the Tank Destroyer and Heavy tank (all nation). About what TD can do that heavies can't, and it seem heavy tank can do pretty much anything a TD is good at.
TD have powerful cannon, and so is heavies (both type have similar tank killing potential).
Heavy tank have better armor and have turret. Enabling them to fense off incoming enemy when de-tracked, or surrounded.
Just as being said. The only real reason you should Continue German (or any) TD is either because you personally like some of the tank in the tree, or you just feel like grinding it.

Well....for the record sold off the TD like and going differently....only TD I have is the Marder II
Did not mind the schematic of playing the German TD's - would be nice if they were all as "keyed in" as the Marder
- great gun
- so-so mobility
- "one shot dead" armor
What I didn't like about the higher TD's.....
- so-so gun (more due to MM than anything else)
- so-so mobility
- "two shot dead" armor ......again, more on MM
I must kinda know what I'm doing....with the Marder
- 56% win
- 186 battles, 197 kills, 122 deaths, 61% hit
would be nice if in the Hetzer and above it was tiered correctly.....hard enough to pen Tier 8's let alone being 3 tiers below them....

The JP is a good TD especially with the 10.5. Sit back and pound on people that your team spots. A TD is really direct fire arty. I've sold mine and will be purchasing the Ferdi in the near future.

Someone needs to defend, especially if arty is to survive. TD's can defend, as can tanks. However when a TD defends it's OK, yet when a heavy defends, they get flamed. A TD supporting an attack is a great thing. There is a place for them in the game, and if this game became nothing more then meds and arty, we will all quit. A well balanced team can win on any map. I can't think of a single map wher a good TD is useless.

I have the entire German TD line researched. Here’s my take on them –
PzJg I – People laugh at this, but in the hands of a good player, the 50mm is quite destructive against the things it will be facing. I quickly tired of it though, and went to the Marder
Marder II – I still have the Marder II. It’s THAT much fun to play. With the rechambered Russian gun you can kill anything you will be facing. The incredible gun traverse and long sight range means you can see across the board, and kill what you see without revealing yourself. For its tier, its borderline OP.
Hetzer – The Hetzer is …OK. It’s hobbled with a limited traverse. You can use the 105, but the lack of mobility makes the 105 a liability. You’re better off with the 75. Even though it has superior armor to the American T-40, I think given equally skilled players, the T-40 is the better of the two.
Stug III – I still have it. It ranks as one of my favorite vehicles to play. I play the Stuh42 with the 105, and use a rammer, camo net, and grousers. Grousers? Why not vents? I use this vehicles has a hide and seek brawler, and I want every shred of mobility I can get, even in soft ground. I want to be able to fly up the flank, get a good hiding spot, and hit someone in the rear with the 105. Grousers let you do that.
JadgPz IV – Initially I wondered why people didn’t like it, but the problem is no so much that it’s bad, but that it has more difficulty than the Stug facing the tanks it’s going to be facing being tier 6. I sold mine to buy….
JagdPanther – The best balanced of the German TD’s. Use your speed to find a good spot fast, and kill things with long range fire. I prefer the long 88 to the 105 due to its fire rate and ammo cost. You are NOT a brawler. Engage tanks at the longest range possible, and kill them where it’s difficult for them to return fire.
Ferdinand – Fully upgraded, it’s a hoot to play. Stock…it’s a bear. I’ve used it as both an assault gun, and as a long range sniper. The armor feels inadequate for its reputation, and you can’t count on bouncing tier 8+ guns, but if you are near the top, you’re damn nigh invulnerable from the front. I recall one game without arty where I simply plopped myself in the middle of a field in plain view, and denied access to that part of the map.
JagdTiger – Unlike the Ferdinand, I find the mobility is just enough less to relegate its role to one of pure sniper. Thanks to the long 128, a role it excels at. It’s imperative that you find a hull down position because of the ubiquitous lower hull weakness in the German line, but the JagdTiger has EXCELLENT gun depression. Find a good hull down spot on some maps, and you can make advancing for the enemy a real nightmare.
