Or is the KV-3 a PAIN IN THE BUTTCRACK?!?!? I am so sick and tired of that big lump of steel!

Any advise for me to get faster to IS?

After getting about half way into KV I sold it and gotten myself a A-20, soon to get T-43.
Good tanks.

The KV-3 became one of my most beloved machines. It needs to be upgraded, but once you are there, it does supremely well.

The work to get past it is alleviated a bit if you did some extra research from the KV-1/KV-2. You can mount the 107mm from the KV-2 and that already gives you a good start on things. The 100mm isn't too shabby, and the 122mm is really good, even with expensive shells. Getting both the 100mm and the 122mm with also help for when you get to the IS-series later on, as that is the guns they use.

That said, do realize that the KV-3 has the same firepower as the IS, and I also think the IS-3. You are a Tier 6 punching like a Tier 8.

But again, it's a bit slow. Take it easy and try to pick things off at range or do the exact opposite and go point blank.

Know who is predator, know who is prey.

I've had -1S and -3.

I prefer the -1S. It plays like the vk3601 "heavy medium", or an IS that is  faster and slightly less well armoured. The KV-3 feels like a slower KV, it's all about sitting there and taking punishment instead of using some movement.

This is wrong. While KV3 and IS have a similar selection of guns, you do get a progression of sorts. The 107mm is good in its own right, with 167 pen and 300 dmg, and the 100mm/122mm DT is just a tradeoff between RPM and dmg, since penetration ratings are similar.

It can be argued that the KV3 has better firepower than the IS, since the 107mm usually out-performs the 100mm (only 8mm less avg penetration but 80 more avg dmg with the same ROF) and thus also the 122mm D2-5T. The IS however, can equip the 122mm D25T which fires a little bit faster and can then be more devastating than the 107mm. And then, when you reach IS3 you get the 122mm BL9 gun with a penetration rating that allows you to hit just about any target ingame. This is a huge difference.

All in all, when it comes to firepower you don't get a lot of progress from KV to IS. The IS is still far superior to KV3 because of higher HP, armor and mobility. If it was possible to mount the 107mm on an IS it would be seriously imba.

As to the main topic - just stick with the KV3. You'll learn to love it in time. It's probably the slowest heavy tank ingame (not counting the premiums) so you'll need to implement heavy tank strategies to a greater degree. Never go alone and don't ever try to duel (dueling is only viable with IS or higher). Always hang back and use your 107mm to snipe as much as you can. Basically everything can catch you, from arty to other heavy tanks, so keep that in mind when you plan your actions.

KV-3 sucks at default, like all tanks. Once you can mount the 107mm though it isn't too bad. I kinda like it. It is ungodly slow to maneuver but it can take a real beating and hit about as hard as a tiger or tiger II whilst slipping into much lower tier battles than you would in those(at least sometimes)

Just don't leave yourself exposed, always hug canyon walls to avoid arty fire, stick in behind buildings in towns/villages and only pop out when you are ready to fire(ie while reloading back away)

It is a damn good money maker once the crew is up and you get used to how slow it is. Sometimes though you just get the short end of the stick and go up against 4 or 5 IS-4s in a single round which you just can't compete with. In those matches I usually stay behind and defend base/arty. If you can absorb a single shot meant to destroy an arty you give your team a chance to take out another enemy which can really turn the tides. I just wish there was some kind of monitoring system that rewarded defending and being a damage sponge but AFAIK receiving damage does not give exp.

I don't know if I will upgrade to the IS or not as losing that 107mm really puts me off. I heard 122mm ammo costs a fortune too whereas the 107mm stuff is cheap as chips(like 200 a shell vs 1000+ a shell)

You should definately upgrade o IS, you will do much better. If you have premium, you will profit even if you use 122mm shells. However, the difference in theoretical sustained dps between 122mm and 100mm is very small so you can still kick ass with a 100mm. Only the IS3 BL9 122mm is strong enough to be a significant improvement on 100mm and 107mm guns.

Personally I didn't have premium when I drove IS so I stuck with the 100mm. But I prefer bigger guns because oneshotting stuff can be a huge advantage (faster kills = less dmg taken, less time visible)

107mm

I had 250 battles or so with my KV3, and ended up with 450 kills

I loved the KV-3

Oh hush, I'm trying to do a little propaganda and encouragement so that KV-3 doesn't look like such a bad thing. But yes, you are correct that there is the progression, I just wanted to highlight the fact that the KV-3 has such a level of firepower which is shared by tanks above its level.

My KV-3 is still my absolute favorite tank to play and I currently have both a Tiger I and a IS.  It is also the tank that has my best kill ratio by a large margin and experience gain by a good margin.  I would have to say it is you :)

I will admit that the tank lacks manuverability and is slow as hell which at times can be a bit trying especially if your in a hurry to get somewhere. However, it just requires you have a different mind set to play it than alot of otehr tanks.

I loves my KV-3. Great credit earner and the 100 or 107mm gun is great. I'll never sell it.

KV-3 has been my best tank hands down.  Currently playing in an IS and a Tiger and so far still like my KV-3 better than both most of the time.

Get the second turret and the 107mm, and upgrade the engine and tracks to maximum.

You now have a T6 thinly plated with bounceonium that can damage almost anything. The KV3 is meant to take punishment and keep fighting, at the cost of its speed and agility.

I love my KV3. Although it is a magnet for shells, it has enough armor to hold out long enough to do some damage.
