Basically, I need to know if I should rush straight for the big guns or get the engine and/or suspension first. The guns seem like something more important because the stock 76mm gun, the 122mm and first 85mm all kinda suck, but I don't know how much improvement the engine and suspension offer.

firstly plz correct the topic

im not a russian tanker, but according to one of my friends, the 100mm is a very good gun
he sniped with it, and did well

if u wanna know whether u need tracks, do some calculations
do it carefully before researching the modules
or ur effort will be wasted

T34-85 has a good max speed, but the acceleration is poor even with the second engine. Turn rate isn't great either, regardless of suspension.

Nevertheless, you should go for the second 85, since that is the most effective gun for it*. To accomplish that, you will need to research the turret and tracks as well.

I also suggest you install the ammo rack for it. The thing just keeps blowing up without it. Wait for the 50% sale later on today. It will only cost you 100k.

Also, get vents and rammer, while you are at it. That will be another 175k.

After that, you can research the engine.

*the 100 mm is just too slow reloading for that tier, and the armor is too weak and HP pool to low to afford getting shot between reloads (like you will be able to later on with T43 and T44 respectively).

I shouldn't need the suspension for that given that I'm at 32.55/35 tonnes and the turret and 2nd 85mm gun only add about 1.1 tonnes for about 33.65 tonnes (34.05 tonnes with the 100mm), and the WAR, rammer, and vents are all light.

Also, I blow up just fine for reasons completely unrelated to the ammo rack, though I understand that later tanks in the line are more prone to getting racked.

Also looking forward to that E8 discount.

I guess they might have changed it in more recent patches. I haven't played this tank as stock since beta. It used to have a lot less 'permissive' chassis, you couldn't even put the first 85 without researching the tracks.

I guess my survival ability is a bit better, because 9 out of 10 times when I die, it is the ammo rack. Putting on the WAR dramatically addressed that to the point I haven't been ammo racked once since.

T-43 is rather prone to fires, and a lot less to ammo racks. I run that with CO2 fuel tanks.

I might switch out the WAR to GLD or something, because I haven't been racked much in this. Though I did learn that the T-34-85 can circle strafe a KV-3 to death, which was fun.

The vents and rammer were pretty noticeable, though. More so than I think they have been in the past.

Indeed, GLD is pretty good (but only if your play style is not passive, often stationary, waiting in ambush.

GLD does not apply any bonuses if you are on the move or you traverse or your turret, and in that sense, it has no use for me in T34-85 which I maneuver a lot with.

As I understand it, currently the GLD bonus applies at all times.

As for fires, I just always carry the fire extinguisher.

I stand corrected. -9% Aiming Time at all times. Nevertheless, unless you break, the gun reticle does not begin to drop, so you aren't basically seeing any advantage out of faster aiming while constantly on the move.

Again, it is just a matter of play style and taste. I don't like playing my mediums in the sniper role or whatnot to actually make use of GLD. Nevertheless, T-34-85 can be used -with mixed results- in the sniper role.
