I would have gone over to that side of map.  Only had 1 scout go that way.  At least more of a heads-up as your team had no clue.

Some people can't drive tanks and watch the minimap at the same time, and even a lot of those who can choose to hide in a bush the whole match anyways because they're paralyzed with incompetence.

One time, in the map Prokarovka (or whatever) I was in my Type 59 and started to climb the hill on the east.  A T32 starts to follow and leaves the town unattended.  I ping him and pinged the tow, asking for the heavy to go to the town.  His response? "Is this your tank?" One of the most ignorant remarks I've ever heard.

I believe a lot of the problem is that most players have their mini-map set at the tiny default size.
