Alot of forum posts say the M4 is the worst tank in Real life and in game for its tier. Why do so many people say that? I have a 61% win rate last check.

And aside from that why has no one noticed that the front turret in hull down has armor effective to stop 120 pen shell?

M4 is the 2nd best tier 5. KV is top spot, but anyone who says that the M4 sucks in game obviously never played it or got killed too many times by one.

The reason is: KV. No win rate will help you if KV hits you. While M4 is pretty nice machine, your main concern is avoiding hits from KV and killing enemy team while this behemoth reloads. So say... are you able to be so dominating against KV maniac with same win ratio?

And again someone mentioned "hull down". Actually any tank can do hull down, saying that US machines are better at it is just an excuse to hide pathetic hull behind cover to not get penetrated by spiting ant. "But I can do hull down!", sorry, facts are that you must do hull down or become ninja and show that soviet tin cans that you can roll them over at any ground.

Also bragging with statistics of low tier tank is funny. You are good player with experience of high tiers that is slaughtering newbies at low tier, "Oh look! MS-1 is overpowered! I have 66% win ratio in it! I can kill newbies". Baaah. If you are going to show of to us, do it with your high tier score, say "I am cool guy! I have JagdPanther with 63% win ratio".

Well, it came out a bit more harsh than I planned, but thats how situation looks, statistics on your M4 are deviation from average created by longer than usual play span connected with better than average player at battles that M4 visits.

It depends on the playing style of the user. If the player is a brawler, then he is almost certainly guaranteed dead whenever using this vehicle. It's paper-thin armor is a huge liability for brawlers, and the weak guns do nothing to ease their pain. On the other hand, if you are a person who utilizes speed and agility, this is the ultimate tank for you. If used well, the high rate of fire guns can shred into enemy armor, and the Sherman can deal huge welts in the enemy forces. When used correctly, it can kill up to 8 or 9 people by dodging incoming fire, circling slower opponents, and smashing weaker targets while under cover.

Personally, I would opt for the T1 Heavy rather than the M4. They are literally the same; the only prominent difference is that the T1 has more armor all-around.

Kv is the best tier 5, PzIV and M4 are 2nd best.

I would say the Kv and the M4 and the pz4  are the second best though ironically M4 ith M1A1 gun makes  an excellent KV killer.

Even if every M4 shot would deal damage, skilled ( remember word skilled, not random noob from public battle ) player will be able to put two 107mm shells into you. And even if first shot of 152mm would miss, fully upgraded KV with 100% crew will reload before M4 would finish it and skilled ( remember, skilled not noob ) player will be able to put nuke into your hull.

So only direct advantage of M4 over KV is ability to spot KV and get as far from it as possible and win battle by not letting it nuke you.

You are still comparing your M4 to random KV's, thats understandable, so here are pseudo advatanges:

M4 can spot KV and kill it while keeping stealth on. versus Skilled KV driver knows it and use his team to spot targets to nuke.

M4 can be do circles around KV. versus Skilled KV driver wont let you get so close by, for example, staying with his team.

M4 can do hull down. versus 107mm will penetrate M4 anywhere and 152mm will blast your turret away.




Situation will change after 7.3 as KV will lost nice chunk of firepower so there will be much less one hit kills. ( Remember, high rate of fire do not helps if you are dead after first shot ).

This is a little off topic, but Chieftan has some good writeups about the history of the M4... if anything, they are good to get into the mindset of a WWII US tanker .  Here's a great quote:

I would not say best but it's up in the top 10 for sure.

Why not best well heavy tanks have more Hp, Armor, and fire power to make up for there size and speed if used carefully.
Which the M4 it's self must be used carefully other wise your dead meat.

all tier 5 are good tanks but if I had to choose 10 in order it would look like

1.KV

2.T-1 heavy

3.t50-2

4.Su-85

5.PzKpfw 4

6.BDR G1B

7.StuG

8.M4 Sherman

9. M10 Wolverine

10. AMX 12T

I can say this might not be the right order but all tier 5 tanks can do very well these are just the ones that people like the most or are most used in game.

The chance to turn the tide of a battle bases on so many factors, but when the odd is not that much, I can always turn the tide with my pzIV against enemy's tds and heavies but not with my M4 or KV. BM4 doesnt have enough power to pack it's agility, in "either you die or I die" situation, you need a gun with good pen and accuracy.

My order would be like this:

1.KV
2.PzIV
3.M4
4.Su-85 (I have just tracked and killed an amx12t before posting this post)
5.Amx12t

Question: how are u suppose to be successful in anything but a Heavy tank or an Arty in this game? From my experience in the mid-range tiers, speed means nothing when u have heavy tanks at each choke point.  It really just seems all that matters in this game is armor and cannon damage

If you watch the server global win rate for each tank, somehow in same tier, plenty medium have higher win rate against heavy, my guess is a team of heavy usually lose against a mix of heavy and med.

Have all of that, elite and 100% crew. Before HE nerf, M4 105 is m favorite, but HE nerf hit M4 the hardest.
