I have fun whenever I don't have a battle where I do something so mind-numbingly stupid that I'm beating myself in the head with a snow shovel.

Yeah, having the team made up of Trained Wiener Dogs is annoying, and there's the odd loudmouth out there, but really, they don't remove the fun from the game.  9/10

I'm glad to see people still having fun with the game, but I am will Millbarge on this one. I HOPE when new game modes and physics FINALLY come out the game will get more interesting, we'll see though. I will say when I have a good time I have a really good time, but on the other end of the spectrum when I have a bad time its really bad. I have so much time invested in this game to just up and walk away, it hasn't gotten to that point yet.

My fun is almost always determined by the people with whom I am platooning.  If I find myself griping more than twice a battle, I take a break.

Matchmaker giving me a curveball?  That's fine, just more of a challenge.

Team being silly?  That's fine, just more of a challenge.

Someone being abusive/trolling?  That's fine, easy enough to ignore.

Life's way too short to get upset over some pixels...

Most of the best players and major clans platoon up with tier 9-10 about 95% of the time, so instead of mostly tier 8s being played, it's tier 9-10. This causes more people to play 9-10 just to be able to compete, and you have tons of tier 9-10s everywhere, many of whom are horrible players. This has made the game less fun by far, so I had to vote for the drunk option.

Aye, there's the rub!

When you get so much invested into anything, even a game, it inevitably changes the dynamic of the game and how you feel about it.

All the time and possibly money you put into this game can make it very difficult to just walk away.

and beyond that, i am apparently a ridiculously gullible moron...

as i seem to actually believe the devs when they say they will fix things,

and so i play on with the hopes of changes that never come.

Hope and faith and my desire for this game to be all it could be often aren't the same as fun though.

i'd say about 8/10 for myself.  I love just the idea of being able to blow stuff up.  Sure i get frustrated when im in battles where everyone goes one way and i decide to go the other way and end up being killed because i cant hold of the 5-7 tanks then get called a noob by my team mates. Then there are the times when i play arty and my team for some reason thinks that i can destroy every single tank they are pinging on the map when i have a long reload time.  I usually will take a break for a bit or platoon up with a few people.  But more often then not i really enjoy the game.  I also try to remember that not everyone is a perfect player on this game.  A lot of people are new and still learning and feel what's the point in blasting them and ruining the game for them as well.

7/10 games I have fun in random pubs.

10/10 games I have fun if I'm in platoons with clan mates ;)

I'm curious how the voting would be if we separated newer players from older players?

That's the main reason the money. I'm sure I don't have as much as other people, but I'm sure its over 200 by now. That's just in premium no premium tanks except the T34  I ground out. If it wouldn't have been for one of my very close friends that bought my premium on several occasions I would have been gone. I will stick it out and HOPE things get better. Most of the guys I played with in beta have left so long ago just because of the pub matches. Right now my biggest qualm is the no damage hits, it is RAMPANT.

I wouldn't waste my time on something that wasn't fun.

People who get all worked up over a game are funny though.

And after 13,000 battles your surprised?

Nine out of ten, easily.  Do the bad match ups get to me sometimes?  You bet.  Do the fail teams get to me sometimes?  They sure do.  Do the whiners and griefers running XVM just to have a shot at ruining other people's day get to me sometimes?  Yep.  Do my own stupid mistakes get to me sometimes?  Oh yeah!  These things don't happen all the time, though.  Even when they do, it's just a game and I'll always go out there and do everything I can to pull off a W for my team:  that's where the fun happens.  Even those nightmare battles can't last more than 15 minutes, and then you get to have another go at it.

Sounds to me like you've got a good old fashioned case of burnout.  It happens a lot in MMOs, I've noticed.  The dynamic they use to get you hooked--the prospect of continuous advancement with no defined endpoint--works so well that they can start to feel more like a job than a game.  You've clocked in 13,000 battles in a year--an average of about 35 per day.  Why not take a break for a few days?  Maybe a week, maybe more?  Take a walk, go to the bar, take a pretty girl out to dinner, or whatever you like to do, so long as it isn't internet tanks.

If you come back after a sufficiently long breather and it still isn't fun, maybe it's time to uninstall.

How much can you play any game until burnout sets in? You've played a lot of games and you're a good player- without a clan I believe. It can get tedious on your own, I agree. I'm not going to give you any 'take a break advice' because I can't seem to do that myself. I do like the game but sometimes get very frustrated. I try to mix it up- different tiers, tank-types, and may have to finally find a clan.

Played with you recently on Campinova actually and enjoyed your style.

Hello, my name is Y_Dude and I am an addict, it all became clear when I was reading a post just like this.  There needs to be another category for the forum - "WOT Therapy Session" - sign in please.  At times that's what these threads feel like.  Are you hoping that when you hit the battle button you will feel better, feel the rush you once felt when you started this journey of tank battles? Your finger starts twitching on the mouse button, waiting ever so patiently for the timer to count down, sweat forming on your fore head, talking to your tank on the screen - "This time, yes sirree, this time I will get top gun" only later cursing at your tank, the random team you are playing with and most importantly at the other team for running right over you."

Well you have come to the right place for only $49.94 per minute I will listen to all of your troubles on my exclusive teamspeak server, please have your credit cards handy because it just maybe a long session.  I will agree with you if you want or just sit back and listen while you rant and rave about the current condition of MM, while interjecting a "UH HUH", or "Yeppers" from time to time just to make you believe I am listening to all your issues.

Thank you for your time and credit card numbers.  I will be available later tonight for the first session.

About 7 out of 10 and mostly because of the map - there are some maps I just hate playing.

i don't mean the "well i am playing a video game, therefore i must be having fun"

i mean, if you critically think about how each game makes you feel,

how often do you really derive satisfaction and come away feeling better than when you started the match?

Getting very deep here.

We obviously approach our play time in different ways.

In short, yes, a game can be not fun. And a game can vary between fun and not fun, but if it's not fun for a very short amount of time I bow out. Fun is integral to the satisfaction of playing; if it's not fun I don't play. (Unlike lots of other areas of life where satisfaction is definitely not tied to "feeling good" or "having fun".) I realize that I also don't have any investment in pretty much any game; investing anything is too serious for play. No, play is where I don't invest, I don't put anything real on the line because hey, it's play. (Not slamming you, I hate the way everything now a days is an "investment." Dilutes the language - an investment is forward looking, not NOW, it's all about what will come. My play time is about nothing but NOW. Enough of that other stuff - worry, pride, fear, hope - in the rest of life!)
