I think with the way it is now It can take about as much punishment as most tier 10s but at the same time is fast enough to get to where it needs to be. Its a good all-rounder that CAN take most other tier 10s face to face when need be.
Why are people saying 7.3 is4 is bad?

Lately I have been saying stuff like "Buff it's frontal armor to 160mm", but now, after a good day of playing it, I believe all it truly needs is the drivers hatch removed.

Only thing I think should be buffed is maybe its rof or alpha so it can be a contender with the T110. Though the T110 is prob going to be nerfed soon so maybe it doesn't need it.
Sorry but the T110 has it all, armour, DPM, and speed in exchange for side armour. Take my side armour and give me its rof.

Every test so far i have taken part in the majority or threads are complaints about how (insert new tank here) needs to be buffed or nerfed
When in my opinion and lots of other players opinions its not the tanks its the amounts of gold ammo being used by all tiers in the test servers that make it very hard to judge just how good or bad a tank is going to be
The only way to truely see how tank X will perform in the live servers is for all players to use only normal ammo then any advantages gold brings is just an added bonus
We all know gold ammo has better pen and therefore is more likely to cause damage so if everyone uses it then it makes the test tanks armour look and feel weaker than it would be once it goes live personally i would like to see gold ammo taken out of the test servers or just limit the amount each player can buy to say 4 per tank per test so we can all get a better picture of each tanks strengths and weaknesses
As for the IS-4 in particular the drivers hatch has been complained about for the past 6 months or so with players saying its huge or its paper thin or its such an easy target or whatever excuse they wish to complain about for being killed in what was once a bullet proof death dealing machine
To all those that do think the IS-4s drivers hatch is massive or easy to hit all i have to say is your not looking at it through these tiered old eyes or your sitting to close to your enemy and sitting still because at anything other than really close range the hatch is tiny and certainly not as easy to hit as some would have us believe atleast thats how it is for me

If it was small and hard to hit no one would have an argument, instead we have have a weak point that is half the entire upper glacious in the dead center.
I can't tell if they buffed it on the test, everyone is shooting gold. I was penning it with my tier 6 KV 107 with gold easily. I have faith it will be fine whatever WG decides. T110 turned our fine even with the screams it was horrible when it was on the test. We'll see.

Nah , it is still work , my M103 just bounced a couple of shot at the IS4 ...
But everyone is shooting gold like crazy .

Only part thats weak on test is the yellow driver port. Normal AP shells can go through there. On the Red parts, nope, they be shooting gold.
Also if they have >260 pen guns ie. pretty much everyone except Germans (LOL!), they can just as easily damage the entire upper glacis, no need to shoot the driver port at all.
So angle it 35 degrees, the only weakspot will be lower glacis vs non-gold shells.
This game is completely imba when gold shells are used. The armor/mobility/firepower balance is thrown out of wack as armor becomes a non-factor.

Does anyone else think wargaming are a little back to front putting dps on the slower heavily armoured tank while putting the high alpha on the more agile? I would have thought dps was more of the is7 gun being it plays more like a medium and the slow loading alpha on the is4 while it sustains more hits between shots.

Everyone complained about about the T110E5 on the last test server and whined and whined and now back to the live server the T110e is a great PUB Tier 10 and a Good CW tank. The Test servers are so chaotic and you get mostly Zerg rushes with very few set plans like you get in CW. I think if things dont change the Is4 will have a place in CW and will kick some butt on pub matches where regular Ap being shot by T7 and up will mostly bounce or do minimal damage. Angling will need to be done more as this tank is not a brawler tank like it was back in 7.0

It turned out to be great because its buffed twice during testing, and thats what most people here are doing, not just for whining, but for a bigger picture.

People were like that for the T110, M103 and T34 for 7.2 too. Cry babies if you ask me.

Your exactly right my friend. Almost everyone uses gold on test so armor that seems like swiss cheese there, can be godly on live.
When you consider how many people are playing IS-4s on test right now, you can imagine about about 10-12 hours of gameplay I have fought more than a few.
I will say this. I have not used gold rounds. I have fought IS-4s with everything from a T29 and a Tiger, up to the M110 and the IS-7. It bounces ALOT of non-gold rounds to the front.
I even aimed specifically at the drivers hatch and I have gotten so far is pretty sliver smears across the paint job...DIRECTLY ON THE HATCH.
I don't know what they did, but they are definately beefier against non-gold rounds than they were.

The IS4 upper front hull can be penetrated with standard AP ammo at absurd angles. There is no need to shoot the drivers hatch at all (which by the way has indeed been buffed to 200 mm).
I have killed other IS4 drivers more than once in this test by simply aiming roughly at their upper hull and unless they were turned near fully sideways to me I could penetrate with the new 122 mm gun while using standard ammo.
They can take away some of the side armour and maybe even reduce the turn speed of the tank but the front armour needs a serious buff.

It says a lot that they deleted all the threads where constructive discussions of ways to change the IS-4 armor or other stats have been deleted doesn't it.
It will get released as the "armored" T10 tank for the russian line with wet paper frontal armor to make it look like there is no russian bias.
The tanks armor is not comparable to the position they stated they wish it to have. There is no reason atm to use it over a T110 as the T110 does the role better with more armor and better dpm. The IS-4 had its traverse NERFED so it is harder to angle your armor where you need it, cannot even dream of hitting top speed unless you have a big hill to go down(the only time i have hit 43 is the long downhill on the new south coast map form your start to the town), and it's armor angles don't mean crap because your so low that every tank is shooting DOWN into your armor negating most of its angling.
If they don't want to change the armor to make it the "armored heavy" they said it was supposed to be just about every stat needs to be changed to make it a mobile heavy. Increased engine power, track and turret traverse(by about 2-4 each), reload speed quicker to about 5.5-5.75 rounds per minute, and aim time lowered to like 2.6 so the tank can reasonably compete as a mobile rushing heavy in CW like a T110 or IS7.

Nothing wrong with IS-4 on the Test server (haven't driven one myself, though, sold it for cash
). Generally, they seem to be harder to take down than the IS-7s I've seen. Maybe the armour numbers are misleading because the ST-I (which I am driving) is also tough as nails, yet only has 140mm front and sides.
#-3 Posted Apr 23 2012 - 14:51
Once again I'll question what tank you think you are driving .
IS 4 as it is amt is useless . I can pen the front in multiple spots using normal AP rounds , not gold .
I have been killed by 2 shots in and IS 4 , no I was not ammo racked .
The worse thing is frontal shots do not bounce , they do serious damage .
For a Tier 10 tank , it's a big disappointment .
The IS 8 is a better tank than the current test Is 4 .

How can you comment if you haven't driven one ??

I love that too holeinthehead....people who don't have a live server IS-4 come on the test server and HAVE NEVER PLAYED IT LIVE! What are you going to compare a IS-4 performance to if you haven't played it in its current live state.
On live server the IS-4 is far from the top T9 tank, which would be the E-75, right now it is just a T9 IS-4 with more HP that has to expose itself more often because it has a quicker firing lower damage gun...which negates its health poo advantage because it has to pop out more and gets hit more.
