Yep, was in Warcraft 2 that it all started. People would say "go QQ" instead of "ragequit". But like how 9gag takes failed memes from Reddit who takes failed memes from 4chan, yeah, the definition got changed completely.

Since nearly all people use the failed definition, I use said definition. :V
