I don't think ban the KV's is a good idea, they are a good tank (we all know it), but it has it's own weakness and it's balanced overall.

Right...large map with open space is not the KV's best friend when the other team has SU-26s + gold. = Swiss cheese.

Except that demonstrably isn't the case.  Fisherman's Bay has less cover than this map, and both teams that made the finals ran 3 KVs.  Trust me, KVs would dominate this tourney just like they did last time.  The HP and gun are too good to pass up.

I think we were the only team that actually used KV-1Ss.

You were not.

As for the main topic. Is post 7.3 KV still going to be overpowered?
If not, why exclude it?

I think 22 points is a reasonable number, 21 is kinda similar, 20 and below would probably cause many 4 men teams, but may be interesting.

By the way, we never had a tier 4 tourney, consider that perhaps?

Please notice that we stated if 7.3 is out then the KV will not be banned.

There will likely not be any tier 4 or below challenges. However we have other things in store for that.

Yes, I saw that, though it was more like "if 7.3 is not out we will ban KV or tier 5 heavies".

Why are tier 4 or below challenges bad?

BTW another idea would be to have like 5 x 5 all SPG challenge. That would break the stereotypes.

Why not do lower tiers?  They're great.  The IGN tournament kicked off this in many ways, and it was great.  And it was tier 3 (tier 2 for arty and TD).

I'd love to see some tier 1, 2, 3, and 4 events.

If not, I'd like to know why.  The tanks are no less interesting.

I never said we wouldn't do lower tiers, just probably not with Challenges.... but keep an eye out for some new formats soon http://forum.worldof...mile_blinky.gif

How about 20 points and introduce the function from some of the older tourneys where if you are short players you lose 1 point for each player you are short (so you can't 4x tier 5's).

I'd like to see 18 or 19 points to make things more interesting, 20 max.

I believe this is just the discussion thread for the challenge as a whole because they share the same rules. I would expect as we get closer to registration there will be a thread for both the A.M. and P.M.

There will be both AM and PM, as Absolute said this is only a discussion thread.

Oh, well that's good to hear.  I'd love to see a challenge at lower tiers, but seeing what else you can come up with will be interesting too.

A different thing, why has the artillery been selected as one tier lower than the rest?  A tier 4 artillery has the same matchmaking value as a Tier 5 medium or TD.

Bad arty drivers? We ran 1 and tore up 3 tier 6's no problem in that redshire tourny.

We were up against Grunvagr, you definitely won't find better.

What about the M4 with gold 105? Huge alpha for its tier.

The Pz4 has a 105 derp as well. The KV has a big derp and a 'mini-derp' that are very potent.

ttjones babycakes, at least equal.

~300 off KV3s with gold rounds. Definitely contributed to our winning that. And KV3s are much bouncier. (is that a word? haha)

Imo, with the Tier 5 TD's + arty, having a KV is fine. If they ban the KV, then they should drop TD tier by 1 as well.

It's such an open map, you can spot those KV's half way to any kind of cover and just rick roll them with fast snipers + arty.

TD's are already at a HUGE disadvantage with there 350-360 hp. Generally they are killed in 1 shot by 105 HEAT rounds, as they have no armor to bounce or the hp. I think if the limit was dropped to tier 4 they would be completely worthless as combatants and only effective in a spotting/defense role.

For everyone saying the KV's aren't effective, they dominated November's challenge. I think 7/8 or 6/8 of the top teams had KV oriented line-ups. Seems like they were a good choice by that alone.
