VK-2801 Profitability

Tazilon's Photo Tazilon Apr 30 2012

Yes, I have premium; but since the 7.2 update, I have made over 7,000,000 credits in my Cougar.  Even without Premium, I would have made a decent amount of money.  Losing money is no longer a reason to avoid getting a VK-2801.

Pretty much if your running a capped VK 2801 you loose money even with a kill. If you die its even more. You would have to survive nearly all of your fights to make good money with one if your capped. Proof please that your making money.

I'm inclined to believe that it's possible, but there's more to this story.

OP has played approximately 1500-1550 battles in the 2801 in the last 30 days since 7.2 came out (you can tell if you analyze his tank tracker stats), so if we accept the claim of a 7M profit, that's about 4-5K per match on average. Not entirely out of the question, especially if premium is being run, and if the OP isn't a bad player (55.5% win rate in this tank implies he's ok).

Now I'll admit I don't drive a 2801, but I do have a 50-2 and I run the 5000 credit fuel consumable, so that should make up for any difference in repair costs. I still make money in that tank with that setup.

This is not true.  You can make money with it even if you die and even if you die and lose if you played well before you died.

It is actually much more than that but i can't show it.  After 7.2 came out I bought an E-50. Basic equip upgrades knocked me down to 10,000 credits.  After I built up more cash, I bought a ton of modules, spending several million rigging out all my other tanks that still needed modules.  I have 8mil in my account now but 1mil of it came from selling a tank.

The tank tracker stats include a bunch of battles I fought before buying my E-50, so simple division using those numbers will lead to lower than actual results.  But if you want to use those numbers, you will also see my win rate over those battles was 58%, not 55%.

Heck you can stealth scout campernova and make bank withoutq even moving your tank, firing a shot, or risking getting hit.

I'm keeping track of my next 100 games and will put it on a spreadsheet.

Its entirely possible that a good player with premium who specialized in using a 2801 could average ~4.5k profit a match.

Of course a good premium player who specialized in the Panther would average over 20k profit per match.

OK - I just complete recording my last 100 battles in a VK-2801 Cougar.

Here are the results:

AVG CREDITS:  16,908.67
AVG REPAIR COST: 7,537.07
AVG RESUPPLY COST: 1,994.23

AVERAGE PROFIT:  7,377.37 credits

The overall stats were:

Win %: 69.00%
Survival Rate: 40.00%
Avg XP: 973.35
Avg Damage: 763.84
Avg Spotted: 4.30
Avg Capture Points: 8.29
Avg Defense Points: 0.27

Now...this 100 battles was a bit better than normal.  I would guess my average is more about 7,000-7,150 profit.

Would I still have made money if I wasn't Premium?  Yes!

16,908.67 = 11,272.45 non-Premium

verify this by:  11,272.45 * 1.5 = 16908.68

Had I been non-premium, I would have made:

11,272.45 - 9,531.30 = 1,741.15

Not a lot, but I did NOT lose money!

To Ghoest:  The point isn't that the VK-1801 is a tank of choice if you want to make money - it isn't close to that.  The point is that you CAN make money with a 2801.  It does have to be a money drain.

Im curious what gun and what equipment do you use?

Tazilon's Photo Tazilon May 03 2012

The only gun you should use with a Cougar - the 105mm. Rammer/Vents/Optics

^ this

Also, you could swap out rammer for spall liner. But it's personal choice. It just sucks when someone hits the ground near you with HE, and you get tracked...

You gotta have vents and optics though.

In fairness it should be noted that Tazilon has a crew that has completed their FIFTH secondary skill, has written a guide for scouts featuring this vehicle, and has 7500+ battles in the 2801 alone.  The information posted is accurate but should serve as an illustration as to what this tank can do in the right hands.  For us mere mortals it is a different story tho'.  At my current skill level I doubt I can play any scout as well as Tazilon.

Disclaimer: I do not have a 2801......yet.

This. lol. I just got my Cougar a few days ago. The grind to better suspension is pretty rough, if you don't want to shell out the 100k for the torsion bars.

I have made money in it consistently since I got it Elited.  I make more now, but I still made money way back when, too.
