I'd like to get a little insight into the players here who usually immediately shout me and others who have negative things to say about WG.  Before being banned from General Chat earlier, a number of people were discussing the amount they've spent playing this game, and one player indicated to us he'd spent EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS on World of Tanks in the last year.

This seems like INSANITY to me.  Maybe it's my age, or my Scottish blood, but I REFUSE to pay more than $100 for a game.  I remember when a video game was $50, and it just worked.  No patches, no paid downloadable content, no add-ons, no pay-to-win.. and you could play it as long as the discs or cartridge continued to work.  I still have games from 20 years ago I can pop in and play if I want to.. but a year or two from now, when WoT isn't profitable, where's your $800?  It's GONE and you've got nothing left for it.  This is why I keep harping on VALUE and encouraging larger and larger numbers of casual players for online games- because how long can you continue to milk rubes like that?  I'll pay $20 here, or $50 there.. but there's NO F***ING WAY I'll ever give you $800 for a game.

I keep comparing WoT to Valve games- I've owned TF2 since the beta, and according to Steam I have just over 900 hours of playtime on it.. for a total investment of $79.99 buying the Orange Box, and a Tsunami relief donation bundle ($20).  I've never bought a hat, I've never paid for a key.. and yet I still play that game because there's new content that makes the game varied and challenging, yet doesn't PUNISH players who don't literally buy-in.

So let me ask you- how much have you spent on this video game in the past year, if you're willing to tell the forum?  Why?  Why would you continue to feed a game like this, when you can buy 2, 3 or maybe even TEN other games that will let you play indefinitely, without asking for another dime?  I've likened World of Tanks to gambling before, and that's exactly the behavior pattern it encourages.

I put in 30 bucks near the release for premium. But in all honestly, I don't see the point. It's like you're paying more to advance faster, but when I enjoy the game equally at all tiers, why would I pay more to use one over the other? When they released the ridiculous 6.4 patch, which nerfed the gun depression of the T32 and T34, as well as decreasing damage of the 105mm they use, I vowed to never pay until the M103. The difference is now, I've got a Type through contest money and a T34 through the switch. Because of those two beauties, I don't even feel the need to get premium at all. Since I put all that money in over a year ago now, I said "f2p forever baby!"

I pay my money because it is a game I enjoy. I want to help make sure that it is around for a long time too. And I feel that the best way to do that is to help support it.

Due to random moments of extremely disposable income, I've spent quite a bit. I love this game and that's the only justification that I need.

i'll pay enough to keep the WG running smoothly
This is a great game and  a hack free ( most importsnt coz COD is ruined by hackers  )
paying to a game that gives you new contents and updates periodically is not wrong

WG forever  :Smile-izmena:

game is not play to win, I have fun with the game and don't mind spending money on it. Just like Rise of Flight, buying a different plane doesn't make the game pay to win. Just adds more to the game play.

I have paid 40$ ( two game packages) for two weeks of premium and some gold and credits and ill probably wont spend over 80$ because that is the price of a regular good game and if the were to sell wot at a game store such as game stop ( they may but I have not seen it ) that would be the price.

Bought gold for premium account, demounting equipment, and converting experience when I was too impatient to grind it out.

Do I regret it? Nope.

I also bought myself a Type 59 for Christmas.

As much as I play this game, I have gotten my moneys worth over and over again.

who really keeps track of their spendings on a game that closely? And if he wants to spend his money on the game, thats his choice, and not yours to critisize

This is a great game, but I dont like the fact there is a pay to win element in it.  It tarnishes it.

Having specialty tanks is fine, but selling ammunition that does more dmg is a shame.

Trying to work out why you had to add the " Pay 2 Win " part, it just seems like an insult at people that pay for the game because they enjoy it. As anyone with half a brain knows its not pay to win in any way shape or form.

But I will add to the thread, ive brought a Lowe ( when it was 7500 ) and a T59, other then that I pay for about 3000 gold a month.

Edit for the poster above

If I remember right there is only one gun that gets more damage with gold, gold ammo is mostly extra pen for normal tanks and extra splash radius for arty.

Spent a lot, but played a lot too, and my garage is nice. I believe if you've spent enough time and had enough fun with it, spending money on this is the same as any other form of entertainment.

Let me tell all you younguns, there is only one thing good about getting old, and it's money.  I would gladly swap every penny (wasn't that a twilight zone episode?  And NO I don't mean the remake, I mean the Rod Serling one) of mine to buy back the years but I can't, so like they say:  You can't take it with you.  Or, no one ever put on their tombstone, "I wish I had spent less on World of Tanks".

ive spent ~150.  got a the medium preorder, then a Lowe.  then add in some premium time and exp conversion.  ive never bought gold ammo or consumables.  the exp conversion is nice for since i dont have a ton of time to play and this way i can ease some of the grind and get upgraded tanks faster.  its a lot, but considering i have been playing since sept2010 it isnt that much.  dont know how much more ill spend, especially since i have large garage and 2 premiums (Lowe adn T34) so credits arent an issue as much.  once i buy the IS4 (any day now) im probably done spending cash on the game since i have gotten most of what  i wanted out of it.

My 'time spent playing : dollars spent' ratio on this game is astronomical. A distant second might be Civ3, but nothing even approaches WoT.

Personally I can't imagine myself spending 800 bucks on a game, that is insanity. At the same time, people spend money on all kinds of stuff, so I guess so long as they feel they're getting good return value, why not. If a game costs say $60, I get it, play it for few days maybe weeks then get another one. It's easy to drop $600 before you know it. Of course you have 10 games instead of 1 but then total amount of enjoyment may roughly be equal to dropping that kind of coin on WoT. I mean there are people who pay 80,100 or more per month for cable or sat TV. A TV for crying out loud! Now that's insanity. But, they do and just because I can't quite comprehend it doesn't necessarily make it irrational.

For the record I've spent $30 on WoT. I've no problem paying for what I use and enjoy. When I stop enjoying, I stop paying, move on.

I've spent around $100+ like the majority.  Most of the time, it's $20 increments from the Ultimate Game Cards I get a month for the monthly premium and the extra $5 carries over and sometimes I spend a little more to get some gold for converting XP or demounting equipment.  I've only started premium after I finished my first line, the Soviet heavy line, because I never knew how much that IS-7 was actually going to cost.

Never in my whole WoT career have I used gold to convert to credits.  I got a Type 59 around Christmas, and damn, it has won me back it's weight in gold and more from contests and credits just flows in.

This was basically my progression:
0x $0  This game isn't very good. There isn't even much content and it is obvious you can pay for an advantage. I don't think I will be playing it for too long, no point in spending money on it.
1x $30 (OK this is the most I will ever spend on this game period.  <_< )
2x $100 (GAHH I don't care any more just shut up and take my money  :Smile-izmena: )
2x $50 (I'm getting poor now, can only spare $50 at a time :(  )

$330 total

Most of it was spent on premium, gold ammo/consumables, converting xp to never have to play stock tanks and buying a type. When I first started playing I told myself I would never spend more than $30 on the game because that is all that it is worth to me max with all tanks and content included. (there really isn't much game content - same game mode over and over again)

At about tier seven I said F-it and bought the biggest package they had. I was sick and tired of stock tanks and the unbearable grind without premium. The game is designed to frustrate you into spending money.

The microtransaction model really does get you to spend more without thinking about it. You just think "OK, I just need this much gold to do this and this and this. I am just buying some because they are having a special and after this I'm done." In reality you are not done, you are going to go right back and buy some more a few months down the road to get something else. You just don't know it yet. You probably lose track of how much you spent some where along the way too. If someone told you to buy this WWII tank game for only $300, $500 or even $1,000+ you would probably tell them it better come with a life size tank cockpit controller.

I don't really get defensive when people point out issues in WOT, it's just that IMO a lot of the time the issues they're pointing out aren't really issues except they're trying to cover for their lack of skill, and the suggestions they're making are bad and if made would probably decrease the enjoyment I get out of the game (like flat matchmaking and no arty). If somebody has a legit issue then I'll totally agree with them, its just I've been playing for a while and I like how the game plays for the most part.
And no money spent so far but I just ordered a starter kit for the gold (just so I can buy more slots for tanks, I don't grind, I play tanks because I enjoy playing them) using a gift card... Recent college grad so no money to throw around until I get a real career and rake in the fat stacks.
