Do you play artillery?

Your mission is to kill the enemy.
It is also to cripple the other teams capability as much as possible.
If you get a chance, the slightest chance to pop the enemys artillery DO IT.
DO THIS AS A PRIORTY.
So you lose a teir 10 who cries for support. If i was killed in a tier 10 because you took out the artillery i would be happy. You may have won the match in that shot.
Killing that one peice on the enemy team will save perhaps 3-4 peices on yours later in the game.

Not a guide a message. Aimed at people who drive a KV then get in an S51 for example.
I dont care about the spec, the tiers, the trees etc.
One message, thats it.
Sick of being rolled because some arty players are not in tune with the music.

Also, don't go after the 3% tanks if another tank can do it for you. You WILL LOSE MONEY if you go after nearly-dead tanks all the time. That being said, if it will save a teammate, then do it.

CB is top priority for me in the first 3 minutes of the game. Afterwards, its support. Occasionally, while I reload, I keep an eye out for tracers.

i rarely play arty, but i normally try to hit key enemy targets in my s-51, that being said, i much prefer the other types of tanks to arty....

Just the other day I was in a 4 artillery game. All of them T8s or T7s. We spotted every single arty on the other team with a suiscout. He was alive for ~45 seconds. Thats enough to get two rounds out. How they all missed is beyond me. Mayhaps they should take this thread to heart.

Ive encountered arty so smart, the whole round they bombed the least threatening target. No wonder they lost
I think some arties players only play just to get a kill, doesnt matter if their team will lose or win.

Well considering that 90% of morons playing consider that amount of kills is the only indicator the arty did it's job, can you blame some of them for going for the kill?
Eck, there are games (very very few) where I got the kill blow on 2 insiginificant tanks with barely any hp and I got told I did a great job, doesn't matter I barely hit anything else. Other games I took off 60+% of 2 tier 10's, nearly killed an E-50 by myself and severely damaged an IS-4. Didn't finish anything though and I got told I sucked.

I personally go after the big tanks first and try to track them. I can't tell you how many times my lowly su-5 has tracked a big effer and the other tanks just roll around blasting it or the bigger arty on our team puts in the big shots. At the very least I cost someone a repair kit and some money.

Same. with the Su-212 etc you get around 30 secs of free look time and most people don't know one game changing fact.
In a tank Td etc. you can hold down the right mouse button and look around without moving your aim from the rock the enemy is behind. You can ALSO do this with arty. Yes you can keep your sights in one space while looking in another.
Lock the hull with "X"
Hold the right click and look anywhere.
Also you can hold LCTRL and right click to look around using the mini map.
Protip if you don't let go of LCTRL you gun/hull will not move til you let it go. So you can rapidly scan the mini map with losing you aim on your current target and wehn you have about 6 secs left til reloaded right click the mini map at your target, check alignment and boom.
If you are using the mouse to scroll around the map in arty view, yes, you are doing it wrong.

Most folks that play arty already know enemy arty is their second priority (after self defense).
But, if you want YOUR arty to kill the enemy arty SOMEONE has to light them up. And I don't want to hear about counter battery. The odds of you hitting something you can't see is very low. Especially when most arty folks already know to move after every shot (and if they don't know that by now, they stink).
Sooooooooo.........go light them up. If I can see them, I'll kill them. No problem.

Ah, I see that you gave the Bison all of 4 games before you decided that "it sucked". Excellent. Do you choose your friends that way too?
Suggestion from a veteran player, and a veteran of life (not military, just someone who has lived for a long time:
Give things a chance. First appearances tend to suck, but oftentimes those appearances get much better as you learn to understand them. All stock tanks in WOT suck. You should know that by now. The Bison was actually a fun little tank to run. So give it a chance. And give your friends a chance too.

It is difficult sometime to choose which target to hit. It is all depend on situation.
For example: there is a 1% T95 hiding on a corner in which your team was not able to proceed because they need to fully exposed themself. While on the other side, your team is trying to push a heavy flank. Now to make the situation more interesting, we have a friendly scout able to sneak into the enemy base to light up arty and his HP its not that great.
Your situation is ready to shoot and you can hit all targets. Which side are you going to support ?
These are just one of those situational things that often happend to arty players.
Even a great arty player sometime must hit a poor target in order for a particular flank to push and help win the battle.

I play arty as well, at lot of it. I know you might go all game and get 1 kill but have nailed loads of tanks down to next to nothing. Then get told you a noob or we lost because the arty sucked etc. Who cares about that, i don’t.
You say you don’t want to hear about counter battery. I'm not talking specificly about blind fire. I'm talking about people doing a great job scouting for you (the arty player) then the arty not adjusting his fire to take advantage of that point in time to take out the enemy arty that is lit up.
I see arty failing all the time. I was playing on Live Oaks today and we had 2 GW Tigers and a M40/M43 they had an Obj 261 and a T92. The scout did a fantastic job to light them up mid way into the game but our arty kept blazing away at the town. There arty pieces were not protected by hard cover so they were sweet shots even after the light went out. I would post the replay but that’s against the rules. There was plenty of time to take them out and the enemy did not move position. We lost as a direct result of that failure.
I often watch the games out to pick up tips and ideas if i die and you see good moves and some bone headed plays, we all do.
I don’t care if there are 9760394760943795 arty threads as Tolos says. My message is please if you play arty then play this aspect of it properly. Busting 5% targets or Panzer 4s when there is a soft arty piece up for grabs is just senseless. Sure they are targets but not priority 1. Low HP targets can be handled by the tanks later if need be.
If people want the definitive guide then aparently there are 9760394760943795 other arty threads, who knew?
