Comparing the two the IS8 has slightly better turret armor, superior speed, and smaller size.  As an M103 driver, what performance envelope gives you an advantage?  Hills?

It seems once again that the US tree will not be allowed to have tanks that outperform Russian ones in any way.

Second line standoff fighting. You'll both pretty much roll to bounce, but an IS-8 will only bounce your shots once in a blue moon compared to once in a full moon on a 103 (seriously, a long 88 will generally pen the frontal glacis), and you'll outDPM him as he slowly gathers up speed towards you past mid 30s kph, and lol if there are hills since the IS-8 can't depress it's gun worth a damn.

That's like saying toilet paper is thicker than tissue paper.

M103 can rival the IS-8 well. IS-8 armor means nothing even with bouncy turret armor. In 1 vs 1, M103 is likely going to win because it has higher rate of fire and gun depression. IS-8 relies on flank opportunities to catch the opponents of guard.

Well... that's how I see it.

Toilet paper is hidden behind a hill with its cardboard box turret showing while tissue paper have to crest :P .

They seem to be relatively balanced imo.

The IS-8 does have the funvantage or ramming and ramming hard though.

LoL

Anyway, the M103 still has a number of advantages, among which being that it has nearly triple the gun depression.

Plus the M103 has the advantage Toasted Rofls detailed about the T30 IMHO. If you earn it, it will repay you. I've even bounced S-70 rounds point blank from an IS-7 in my M103. Can't say that ever happened in my T34, and I haven't played my IS-8 enough for the opportunity to have presented itself yet. I bet it doesn't. M103 is superior to IS-8 in everything but top speed and side armor, which both can be negated by a well placed round.

Turret armour on the IS8 isn't great either, the IS3 has more effective turret armour with a lower silhouette. >_>

But at least its fast, real fast actually.

No it isn't. The M103's armor shape is vastly superior to the IS-8. I don't find tier 6 mediums penetrating my M103 from the front nearly as often as I have in the IS-8.

No, the IS-8 is sort of an exaggerated version of the M103 - similar gun, way less effective armor, and way more speed. The devs are trying to drag the "average" tank away from the old slow and heavily armored WW2 standard.

I have played against both tanks, M103 is so much better than the IS-8. Hide your M103 behind a rock, having the turret showing only. And, it will literally dominate the battlefield. IS-8 tends to bounce more against E-75, and takes hits bad. But, E-75 still remains the best tier 9, I believe it's OP, (I played it in beta), quite fun.

Tier 6 mediums can't penetrate IS-8's turret. Tier 6 mediums can penetrate M103's turret. (frontally in both cases)

At the least it's better than M103's.
