so lets talk about how the BIA works !

first of all, as a perk, BIA only works if its on 100%. but unlike other perks, the whole crew must have it.
if a crew member dies, BIA will keep working.

from the wiki:
Spoiler

let me start with this question:
does it work like vents ? - except that vents doesn't improve repair/firefighting/camouflage.
-say, if all my crew is at 100% major qualification and I have vents, then my commander will be performing at 110% (100+5 vents+5 BIA) while the rest performs 121% (100+5 vents+5 BIA+11 commander) ?
-and if they also have repair/firefighting/camo at 100%, it becomes 105% (100+5 BIA)?
how many crew members does a tank/TD/SPG need to have for BIA to be a better choice over the other skills/perks ?

I definitely don't think Vents are a wasted slot, after Gun Rammer, Vents are usually the second piece of equipment I get for most tanks.

100% crew with Vents and BiA is noticable, yes.

It's very noticeable when you're beside the same tank travelling in the same direction (ie: hill climbing malinovka in the Type 59).

IMHO, on higher level tanks Vents are a waste.
Rammer, optics, vertical stab are winners.

this thread is meant to discuss BIA but since it works just like vents, I guess we can discuss that extra 5% on all crew bonus here.

optics adds 10% view range. then I would very much prefer vents over optics (except for "scouts"). why ?
vents gives every crew member +5% right ? then that means you get 5% less commander view range compared to optics but the rest of the crew will perform at 115% - if all crew member is at 100% of course.
mix up vents and BIA together, the rest of the crew will perform at 121% - because commander will be 110%.

The crew skill relationship to tank capabilities isn't direct / 1-to-1.  A 100% crew doesn't make the tank twice as capable as a 50% crew.

That 5% boost from BiA or Vents works out to something like a 2.2% boost to the affected tank capabilities.  Both together, with that little nudge to the commander's boost to the rest of the crew, come close to a 5% boost in the affected tank capabilities.

Of course, if you have, for example, Vents, BiA, and Clutch Braking, your tank pivots considerably faster...

Vents or BIA alone is useless because other modules and skills are simply better.

For higher tier tanks, rammer and vert stabs are usually a must. Then I often pick optics to maximize view range because when enemy can spot you 40m earlier than you, you usually end up eating a round or two before you can fire a shot back.

And for crew skills, repair or other specialized skills/perks are usually better. (after repairs, I often take the +view range skills because +2% view range from commander and +3% view range from radioman = +5% view range = 20~m view range boost on high tier tanks) And when you have a crew knocked out, BIA stops functioning until you get full crew back.

Vents or BIA's 5% crew skill boosts (it doesn't boost tank's stats by 5%) are very much meaningless when you actually do the calculations with the formula here and see for yourself how small and practically useless the boost is. (use the link below)
http://forum.worldof...909-tank-stats/

But vents + BIA together (resulting in 10% crew skill boost) might result in some noticeable change in things like reload speed: It'll be a very small 0.3~ sec faster reload, but it'll be noticeable when you're slugging it against an enemy where DPM matters.

I have a new question for us to discuss:

how many crew members does a tank/TD/SPG need to have for BIA to be a better choice over the other skills/perks ?
