IS 4 vs IS 7

I'm considering going heavy down one line, I currently have the KV-4 and IS-3. I really want to finally get a tier 10 heavy.
Which route should I go and why?

I finally got my IS-7 today, and comparing it to the IS-4 I like it much more. I've always preferred the high alpha on the s-70 gun even though the new 122mm is pretty great. I think the IS-7 has some of the best front armor in the game, the IS-4 on the other hand seemed to get penned all the time up front. IS-7 also looks way better than the other IMO.

I'm really not enjoying the "new" IS-4 compared to the old one. The gun is less enjoyable, and the 810 extra hit points merely mean that you have games like I did last night, where I was at 757 hit points but every single thing on my tank was broken and half my crew dead, 6 kills but my team still screaming at me for not finishing off the last two enemies... nevermind the ~30 second load times on the gun. Plus it faces tougher opposition now.
You can also be penned by virtually any tank in the game, certainly by any tank you'll see normally, and not just penned, but penned frontally which is crazy - what other Tier 10 has that problem? AMX 50B perhaps, but it at least has a crazy gun.
IMO if they buffed up the RoF on the M62 it might be better off, but the slight increase in accuracy and very slight increase in penetration don't make up for the lower alpha damage, plus the 122 mm shells actually seem to bounce more than the 130 mm shells.

if you haven't unlocked BL-9 on your IS-3 yet, then you better go IS-7 line first because you will need to grind 44k exp using D-25T gun on ST-1. it is the worse grind of all tanks in this game. 175pen on tier 9 tank mean you will not be any help to your team as you won't damage much in every battle you play.
if you have unlocked BL-9 on your IS-3, then it is OK, to go either line. if you like fast, strong frontal armor, go IS-7 line.. if you like slow, strong overall armor, then go IS-4 line

IS-7
I do not claim to be an expert (though I own both I have only played the new IS-4 a few times).
The IS-7 is a great tier 10.
The IS-4 is a tier 10 that is good against lower tiers. Who gets a tier 10 simply to have better results versus a KT or IS-3 or something?
These are my thoughts on the subject anyway. There are very competent players who disagree and may very well be right.

unlo ked my is7 afterpatch 7.3, it is so much better then the is-4. Lower tiers hurt the is-4 to much and youll use your repair kit and crew bandages almost every game making it very expencive to run.

Go for IS-7. This tank is quite a spearhead.
its sides spaced armor and the front of the hull can do wonders.
But depends on your playstyle. IS-4 is alot slower and its sides actually bounce more than it's front. Angling with IS-4 is close to useless.
Oh and IS-4 driver getting killed evertime a high tier tank shoots the driver port is quite bad...
IS-7 driver dies in like 1/10 rounds, even more.
IS-4 driver dies 1/3. Well actually almost every round as i said above.

IS-7
1. Better frontal armor.
2. Faster
3. Higher alpha (some people will argue that 8mm higher penetration and faster ROF is better). Sorry for a heavy tank alpha is everything.

I am grinding IS 7 now, but going side by side & head to head w/IS 7's, there is no doubt it is the stronger of the 2. So yeah, what the 2 posts just above me said!
Also, IS 7 comes elited out of the box... IS 4 you start with a TIER 8 gun (totally useless & a joke imo) so you gotta grind the tier 10 gun.

IS-4 can bounce just as much as a IS-7 but it takes just a little more finesse and knowing when to angle and how much to angle. IS-7 is much easier to angle in that way just cause of how the front is made. In a IS-4 if you angle too much your cheeks can be penned or angle too less and you can still be penned anywhere else on the front (even the drivers hatch). Thats how the front basically works for the IS-4.
Both tanks in the end though really compliment each other when theyre together in matches. IS-7 acts as a shield and decoy while the IS-4 lays on the damage with a slightly faster ROF.

490 x 4.38 = 2146 dpm for IS-7
440 x 5.0 = 2200 dpm for IS-4
But the above is assuming they are both constantly firing, in reality that almost never happens.
So basically in most situations IS-7 just simply does 50 damage more per shot than the IS-4.

I'll go for the IS-4 simply due to the fact that I'll be relatively faster, has a better fire rate, and that it doesn't have an easy to hit ammo rack.

The IS-7 for sure. The IS-4 used to be able to outperform the IS-7 in skilled hands, but 'm not sure how well it handles these days without the S-30.
