I've been trying to consider how best to advance up the German artillery line after I finished the Bison. I have two options: the Wespe and the Sturmpanzer II. From what I've seen of their stats they're quite different from each other in terms of how their guns handle, and for artillery that is the only stat I'm interested in. The Sturmpanzer has as an above average rate of fire for German artillery but conversely has lower damage. The Wespe has a slower rate of fire but absolutely insane damage, more along the lines of the German arty that I've seen.

To give you an idea of what I'm looking for, I would prefer rate of fire over damage but I would take damage over rate of fire if the additional damage was worth the lower rate of fire.

The Grille is fun, but what a grind :( but it's worth it to get to the Hummel, which is my personal favorite,

Agree. I have Ace tanker in my Hummel, havn't even come close in the GWpanther

The Grille is the best Tier 4 arty IMO, but unless you've already progressed through the Wespe, you're going to have to go through it first. The StPzII is basically just an upgraded Bison as it still has the same gun.

I just started playing the Wespe this week, and I like it, although the aim time seems long compared to the Priest (since they both shoot 105mm shells they have similar damage), so I'm going to buy a GLD when I get the credits (HAD to buy a rammer for my T29 recently).

I'm going Hummel via Grille also (no way I'm doing all that XP with the Pz3/4). Plus I want the Grille.

The StPzII is difficult since beginning at Tier 3, arty is expected to be able to hit most of the map, and you still will have the same half court range with StPzII that you did with the Bison. Unlike the M37, this never improves as there's no "second gun" to research.

I haven't played Russian arty and have no interest in going down that line at the moment, so I can't speak for them.

Oh but back to the original question; with all arty your goal should be to inflict as much damage as possible. imo

I liked the Grille far more then the Wespe, and Sturm, the Grille hits hard, and is a great trainer for future German arty.

The 2 cannot be compared really because one is the tier 3 arty and the other is the tier 4. Unless you plan on using free EXP to bypass the stumpanzer, you have to play it first to unlock the grille.

you have to go through the StPz II to get to the Grille... unless i completely missed something?? im terrible at arty, but i liked the StPz II

When I played the Sturmpanzer 2 back in beta, I hated it. It felt like a brick to me, and it only carries 15 shells, opposed to the Bison's 20. Because of that I went through the wespe when it went live, and I hated that more.

My brother went through the wespe, and now he is currently at GWP
However, from what I can remember, the sturmpanzer has the same range as the bison, which I did not like
But the upgraded wespe gun that I saw while my brother was playing his, is much better, though I do remember some shots go wide. I haven't been much of an arty player, but from what I see:

sturmpanzerII - not so great range, no gun upgrade
wespe - range, inaccurate

I would pick the Wespe hands down because of its massive damage output for a Tier III.
it also has great range that can go across maps and that it can be turned into a fun TD arty :Smile_teethhappy:

I actually chose the SturmPzII Because of it's reload time and penetration.
