What medium? A lot of T-54 drivers take camo before repair. Depends on playstyle and has nothing to do with sniping.

T54 has the 2nd highest camo rating of any tank in the game (after the Marder II). No, its not meant to snipe, its meant to passive scout, sit in a bush, and let the team do damage. My clan regularly takes my T54 into CW to sit in a bush and spot. Not the best combat tank, but passable. Repair assumes that being exposed for  6s will do significantly less to you than 8s. With a med, thats almost never the case. Camo, however, reduces the max range your tank can be seen at, even in the open, and allows you to go quiet much quicker than other tanks. This allows you to phase between bushes and make people miss you much easier. For the 54, camo is unmatched.

I run camo on most of my Russian mediums, it helps keep you invisible so you can get in range and to passively scout if need be. Most of the time in a medium like the T-44 or T-54 you're waiting for an opening to launch a surprise attack and with a high camo crew you can sometimes get within 50m before being spotted, believe me this helps the T-54 a lot in pub matches.

My T-54 is run mostly pubs, mostly solo  (used to run it in clan wars as scout, but havent been in a clan in ,,,,six months now I think?)

Commander  - JOAT, Recon, Repairs
gunner - snapshot, repairs , camo
driver - smooth ride, repairs, camo
loader -safe stowage, camo , repairs

I prioritize perks over skills because perks only work at 100% and skills worth at whatever % you are , and the first trait is easier than the second to complete, third takes very long time. The T-54 needs speed and movement OVER camo so I choose repair as the most important of the skills (not perks).

I use coated optics, rammer, vert stab (coated optics could be changed for vents IMO, I used the optics because I use to use this tank as scout in clan wars). Use your mobility to get to cover, peek and shoot, use great turret armor and hide hull behind obstacles, etc. This tank is best used aggressively (but not stupidly). at almost 400 battles and I have 1,001 xp/game,,hopefully growing.

T-54 is an awesome tank ! Sure, stock its fairly bad, but isn't any tank pretty crappy stock ?
Personally if you don't just LOLRUSH all the time and dont catch shell from every direction, you do just fine !

Judge a tank based on 4 shots in one battle? I'd say bad luck.
I could say my BL-10 on ISU-152/704 is a bad gun when I only track enemies repeatedly with it, even with clear side shots. I won't call it a bad gun though, pretty sure majority of people will agree it's a monster gun.
Bad luck kicks in at the most random times, it happens to everyone..

they are both opportunity tanks the chat uses an autoloader to burst enemy tanks down the t54 uses high rof, armour and maneuverability to take on enemy tanks.  No it can't 1 v 1 as good but attack when the other tank is distracted. Its a pretty fun little guy.

Having gotten both T-54 and Batchat over 2 months ago and grinded them out simultaneously, I completedly disagree with this statement.

For T-54:

1. T-54 does not have high fire rate, for firing 1/10th of a second faster it does 70 less damage than the Patton. Rolls of 250-260 damage happen much more frequently than you would like.

2. While it does have great high speed mobility, sub-10km/h turning is actually quite poor compared to the Patton due to high track resistance.

With those two downsides, I absolutely dread close range encounters with E-50s and Pattons and go out of my way to avoid them. What it excels at is close range combat with heavies where they have a good chance of pinging off your turret if you remain mobile, or long range terrain abuse against tier 9 or lower tanks. T-54 is the best medium for bullying lower tier tanks, but against equal or higher tier opponents, it's a horrible choice.

The Batchat:

1. Unlike the T-54, it's horrible when it comes to facing lower tiers, even a rogue AMX 12t can easily gouge out 1/4 of your health. When a tier 10 loses 300-400 hp to a tier 5, your team has just taken a huge hit.

2. Can't turn at all, most of the new TDs except for the JPE100 can keep up with your turn, god forbid if it's a Foch, that thing can turn you into swiss cheese easily.

3. Aim time is extremely long, Patton's on the move accuracy is probably better than your dispersion when you spin your turret 20 degrees.

I have always played my Batchat like a mobile TD, use the fast speed and good camo to set up in a flanking position, then the high pen and burst damage will easily allow you to throw more damage down range than tds.

Everyone has their preferred class to play, and vehicles in this game like the t54 and BatChat are the rougue classes of WoT.

wow...the 54 was a tank I had always wanted and once I had it tried using it like my 59 which was dumb.  Never considered these tactics but now my memory kicks in and you are right, the 54's that I saw rage were always late into the match.

My T-54 was ammo racked a lot.  I installed a WAR.  I get much, much fewer ammo rack damage.   I do get a lot of module damage, but not as bad as the OP.  I can't pen anything tier 9 or 10 fontally, but I don't have the top gun yet.

For anyone who fusses about damaged subsystems on their tanks didn't play this game for very long :P.
edit: if anyone cares, the repair kit was used to fix the gun , so everything on the tank was broken at one point other then the optics.


But jokes aside , I have the T-54 , it does take a few hits to the ammo rack and catches fire some but no where near other tanks I have used.
