I stopped at the B1 on the French heavy line, and continued on the medium line, all the way to the Lorraine. Since then, I have not touched the heavy line, however, I have enough exp to get the BDR.

I know the BDR used to get terrible matchmaking, but does it still? How is it's matchmaking? Is it as bad as some people say it is?

the BDR is a very situational tank, but compared to the other T5 heavies, it can pretty much damage the lot of them.

Also the tracks are your biggest (literally) asset- use it as a damage sponge.

be wary that the 90mm takes a while to aim and fire and does not have that much accuracy.

BDR does get better matchmaking since the last patch. It still has to frequently fight out of its depth, however, and is one of the worst grinds until you elite it. But the top gun is excellent and it is a beast in the city where you can minimize or even neutralize its disadvantages (high profile, slow, long reload, mediocre accuracy, long aim time, inconsistent pen) and maximise its advantages (alpha damage). It really is a fun tank for medium-close range city flanking. If you get caught out of position in the open you're dead meat. Some maps you can't avoid that.

Don't waste free xp to skip B1 - B1 gets good matchmaking and once you get the engine upgrades it's actually a pretty good tank. In fact it's a totally different tank once you have the mobility to actually select your engagements, avoid arty fire and avoid hetzers and tier 5s. Top gun is possible. Save your free xp to elite the BDR as fast as possible.

BDR G1B is okay, though the ARL 44 is a lot better Tier 6 tank out of the Heavies. And since you grinded up the Lorraine you got most of the guns unlocked on the ARL anyway. =P

The B1 was a blast to run, I didnt even consider it a grind but the BDR is the most vile useless pos I've ever had the displeasure of driving. Its massive and it has terrible armor, which isnt helped by the fact that the gun depression and elevation is worst than well its so bad I cant even  compare it to another tank or TD its horrible. True yes it can outgun most tanks if its the top of the list but in the 40 games I've played in it so far I've only been top once and I got cut to pieces by a churchill. with only 60mm of frontal armor and 40mm on the sides there pretty much isnt a tank out there that cant peg you. If your caught in the open your dead, try to peak arount a corner your dead. As soon as the enemy knows where you are your dead, I hate the BDR and it hurts my feelings because I had high hopes for it. I like French tanks, yea they may not have good guns or armor or speed but they have something in more quantity than any other nations tanks, Character. I love the way the BDR looks, its rediculous,  it looks like something out of Buck Rodgers, its positively overflowing with character but it is horrible and you will hate it.

I own one (Elite) and i think it has a pretty good mm compared to other tier 5 heavies (mainly comparing to KV-1) and seeing that its best gun is tier 7 it owns when on top!

I rebought my BDR after the latest patch to see if the matchmaking was better... still seeing lots of Tier 8s, but I'm in the middle of the team more regularly now. The gun isn't really accurate enough for sniping, especially with a new crew, but it's very powerful for a Tier 5. I try to hang back and support my team from a distance since most players focus on the closest targets first.

The 90mm really makes a difference and does fairly well against Churchills and T14s, especially if you manage to flank them.

It was I throughly enjoyed it, once it upgraded its fantastic, sure the gun cant scratch the hvys you will occasionally face like the Churchill, T14, or the KV-1 but nearly everything else is fair game, plus it has very friendly MM since the 7.3 update. In the cities its pure gold, its more manuverable than most light tanks once its upgraded. The B1 has a permant spot in my garage

I could not disagree more.  The BDR is an excellent low-tier heavy.  It sounds like you were trying to play it like a KV-5.  It is the reverse--excellent gun, terrible armor.  Just play it like you would a Tiger, and you will be fine.  The tier 7 gun has plenty of penetration to kill a churchill with regular AP rounds.  I am just an average player, and I leveled through it in 18 matches with a 61% win rate and a K/D ratio over 2.

amazing tank when elite, sucks totally when not. 240 dmg per shot means you 2 shot everything non-heavy in a tier 5 game. It also makes it very possible to ammorack tanks with one shot. Technically, it can one-shot a Type 59 without WAR.

Contrary to what most might say, i think the BDR is a winner right out of the box.
Sure, it's slow, hard to turn, has has a lulzy gun to start with. BUT IT MAKES UP FOR THAT!

I know it sounds a little asinine, but so long as i got close up to the enemy i was able to penetrate them with well-aimed shots. It was a blast while stock xD

And as far as the upgrades go, every upgrade makes it even better. If you mount the 2nd 75 you dont need tracks to mount the engine. So even with the stock tracks it's manuverable. And the long 75 is incredible in a knife fight if you know how to aim. It's why B1's are notorious for getting top guns n_n.

I dont have the 90mm or the 2nd turret yet and i still love this silly BDR.

Actually, ever used the KV with the long 76mm before the tree split? The BDR kind of reminds me of it, like an unsung hero of sorts TT^TT

I see lots of tier 8s but have no problem penning them with the 90. I really like it to be honest.

Cannon fodder is what I think of it. But I think of all French heavies T1-T7 as cannon fodder. Easy kills.

If you've made it up to the Lorraine, chances are you've got alot of modules on the heavy line already unlocked. It should be easier than people who went solely one line over the other

Seems incredibly unlikely you went through the G1B in only 18 matches without additional aid.  Even assuming you got everything except the tracks from the other french tanks, thats 38,000 xp for the tracks and ARL.  So you would have to average 2,111 XP for each round.  Even if you only used it for the 2x per day it sounds farfetched unless this was on the test server.

It's a pretty average tank. It moves and hits like a heavy, but its armour is more what you'd expect of a medium.

The BDR is a mixed bag.  It has a powerful gun that can do a lot of damage.  If your the top tank you should be able to blast your opponents into submission.  The main thing you need to do is point your hull right at your opponent and stay at medium range.  You can bounce a lot of shots from Tier 5 and down that way.

If you get too close you will be circled and slaughtered due to weak side and rear armor.

I find myself getting 3+ kills or quickly dying.  Sometimes a blast, sometimes not.

BDR is only good with the 90 and a near elite or elite crew.
that gun is a gamechanger and makes the BDR, in my opinion, the first decent tank on that line since the renult.
