You mean B1 correct (tier 4 french heavy?). Anyway I actually enjoyed mine because I didnt get bad matchmaking. But as you said its gun is horrible so you need to aim for weakspots. It also has decent armor so things might have a hard time killing you. You get xp for just damaging tanks, so pinpoint the tanks with weak armor like tier 3s (Marder II, T82, M2 MT) , and tier 4 lights (T-50) and tds (SU-85b, T40). Also SPG make good prey too. But try to avoid tier 5s cause they can really put the hurt on you. I cant really offer good advice but that is just all I can tell you from my experience playing that tank. Anyway take care good luck on your grind, take care.

- Also try to platoon, I found that platooning helps out alot-

Edit: Also if you mean't the D1 (Tier 3 French Medium) then its pretty much the same scenario ;)

2 ways:

(a) Grind it and take your lumps.
(b) Use lots of free experience.

If you mean B1, the gun does suck for the tier but the armor is decent, angle yourself and aim for weakspots and you'll do ok.

The same way I made it past the AMX 40; acknowledge that it's slow and only marginally good at killing things, but excels at taking a beating. I didn't have it long, but I won a few Steel Walls with mine, managed to simply outlast my enemies and pick up a Top Gun, and then probably did one of the hardest things one can do in an Iron Duck; I snuck it across the map before the 15-minute battle timer explored and picked up an Invader.

It's not that I am good; I rather suck. The trick is that every tank has something that they do well, and I am willing to be persistent enough to find out what that thing is. For many of the low-tier French tanks, that thing is "take a beating".

B1 is a real pain.  Just need to push through.  Platooning with someone who has a big gun can be helpful.  When I was grinding mine I'd always suggest to a TD that I'd be their armour, if they'd be my gun.  Won a couple of games that way, and let me feel as if I were actually contributing to the team effort.
Just so you are aware, the BDR that comes after, isn't much better until you get the 90mm.  Then it starts to get fun.

I play mine this way: Stay close to base and set up to take out the lemming rush! Got 8 kills in one battle! Didn't get Boelter's Medal because not all were above T4. Try to avoid T5 and above. If you see anything big, call for arty to assist. I had a 28% WR when I first grinded through it. Since I have rebought it and I'm up to 34%, but it's hard to do! I'm also training my future AMX 50 100 crew in it.
