Ferdi's Gun module taken out too often...

panzerwagoneer's Photo panzerwagoneer Jun 09 2012

What the hell is the matter with the Ferdi's front superstructure armor. Every other shot I take to the front destroys my gun module. I lost my gun to an Ausf A through the armor twice in the same round. He destroyed it, I repaired it and fired, and then he destroyed it again. I was angled and he was using the 105 L52mm, a gun not known for its stellar accuracy or penetration rolls. So what is the deal here, I lose my gun every other round to fire form too many tanks that shouldn't be able to pen my armor, let alone my gun mantlet.

So 2 things have to happen here. 1. The 128mm Gun mantlet needs to be increased in size so it covers all of the gun module from the front, 2. The Gun modules HP needs to be increased and its size need to be looked at. I shouldn't be dealing with destroyed gun modules from single low HP hits that manage to pen the front. I understand losing my gun to arty splash and pens but I am talking about single AP shell hits taking the Ferdi's gun out far too easily and it is without justification. The Ferdi has no camo, it only has its armor to protect itself, and even its armor is non effective nowadays, so really it only has its firepower to protect itself. It can't do that if every jack dick and harry can take out its gun whenever they want by just plugging the Ferdi through its front superstructure armor. The gun module on any tank should be the most difficult one to take out. It should have the most HP of any module and the gun mantlet should protect the entire module from hits. That's why they put them on the guns in the first place. And its not just the Ferdi that I have noticed this happen to , my Lowe loses its gun from frontal hits far too frequently as well. Inexcusable really considering the size of its gun mantlet. It makes me wonder if the devs haven't made these modules artificially too big or if they still have holes in the front armor of these tanks around the gun they refuse to fix.

How about the people reading this, have you noticed this phenomenon in your Ferdi's or other German tanks? If so share your story or comments below.

There is something I have noticed about all tanks. If you aim directly at the gun, your reticle should show a green mark, meaning penetration. I noticed in testing that about 30-40% of the time, you can take out or damage the gun. It's not only German tanks; all tanks suffer from this. Perhaps this is what is happening?

Aye, I've experienced the same problem with my IS-6 on the test server. My gun gets broken a lot. Its not a Ferdi, but this can relate to your issue and shows that the guns need to be strengthened. I was facehugging a VK3601H, he had the stock gun/turret, and he fired into me and broke my gun with AP. I got bonked out at that.

My T34  and T30 experiences this a lot too, just today my T34's gun got taken out by a Lorraine right through the gun mantlet, and he wasn't using gold ammo either. This is unacceptable WG, yuo have to fix this clear lack of understanding of the point of gun mantlets being the best armor on the tank, especially American Heavy tanks like the T34.

It happens all the time on my Jagdtiger too. This problem didn't start until the new skills and perks came out. Before then maybe a total of 5-10 times total my gun was destoryed in around 5000 games. After the skills and perks came out, my gun gets destroyed at least once in every 3 matches. Sometimes it's destroyed multiple times in a match.

This change had to be because of the Armorer skill. It's the only explantion I can think of. Think about it. before the new skills I would have never needed it. Now, after the new skills, it's almost a priority due to the amount of times the gun is destroyed.

so the devs made it an issue because they had made a skill designed to fix or mitigate it. Wow. Thanks for nothing devs, that was a terrible stupid move to make, guns being a lot easier to destroy add nothing valuable to this game especially considering how difficult it is to get more then 2 or 3 skills without having to play 1,000 games per tank.
