Where is the ammo rack generally located on the majority of tanks?

The Turret, or right below it.

sides/rear of the turret, and sometimes they are located on the side hull near the rear of the vehicle

For some tanks like the T29 and KT that have large turrets, hitting the rear section of the turret could hit the ammo.  Another common spot is on the side hull below the turret.

Under the turret or the rear of the turret are usually where those explosive candies are hidden. Some tanks *cough*russian*cough* have ammo racks located at the front of the tank, behind the headlights.

The ammo almost always has to be in reach for the loader to grab. Some tanks have "non-combat" stowage areas, where after a battle or whatever and firing shells, they will move shells from that area over to an empty area closer to the load.  But basically always going to be an ammo rack in reach of the loader.

This means that the ammo is generally going to be around the turret.    Which puts many ammo racks on the sides directly under the turret.

Another popular place to put them is in the back of the turret. You can generally tell if this is the case or not by the size/shape of the turret.   If they have a small turret like many early tanks, then there isn't much room to store ammo, and there is a low chance of ammo being there.   You have some exceptions like say the T44 and Type 59 which carries a few rounds in the turret. But like the back side of the T-34 with that big huge lump sticking out the back of the turret - that's an ammo area. Same thing on the Hellcat for example(which you can physically see the ammo from the top because it's a topless turret).

Thank you very much guys, this will help a lot when I'm brawling in my DB, or simply in face to face in any tank.
