A picture is worth a thousand words.  I keep seeing this question, and it gets answered every time, but I've never seen a drawing that explains it.

The top tank is in "arcade" mode, where the Point of View (POV) is above the tank.
The second tank is in "sniper" mode, where the POV is at the base of the gun.
The pink reticle is where you think you're pointing (at the enemy tank), and the green reticle is where you're REALLY pointing (at the closest object to your "eye")

In sniper mode (bottom), the gun is pointed at whatever you point the mouse at.  Since the LOS and the gun pivot from the same spot, the gun points where the mouse points.

In arcade mode (top), the gun is also pointed at whatever you point the mouse at.  Since the LOS and the gun pivot are NOT in the same spot, however, there can be a strange artifact.  The closest thing to your "eye" is the wall.

So in both cases, the gun points at the wall, right where your mouse is pointed.  Unfortunately this isn't really what you wanted, and that's why everyone recommends either switching to sniper mode when playing peekaboo, or holding down the right-mouse-button to lock the gun in place until while taking into cover.

Because the game thinks you're trying to aim at the building in front of you.

best way to stop this when behind hard cover or fighting around biuldings is to aim gun at height of tank you are fighting and hold your right mouse button down until you have cleared the wall, rock etc.....  do not target lock the enemy but use right button to lock turret and gun down. try to position gun at possible angle of firing befor you lock it down and move out from cover.

The only true solution to this is to not be driving next to the building, it fixes that.

Sometimes its nice to be next to the building, house, rock, blown up vehicle, and even tree that the recticle religiously snaps to as they provide cover while shooting.

my favorite one was when I was in Dragon hill map. and my t59 decide to aim 180 degree opposite where I aim.

Yeah, that's a similar problem, I can draw a new picture if needed, but basically if that eye is *inside* a mountain (or building, whatever) behind the tank, it sees that mountain as the target.  I think you can fix that one without going to sniper mode by just zooming in until the eye is no longer behind the tank, but not yet sniper mode.

I have explained this a few times in different forum threads. Thank you for the visual aids!
