Is it worth it?

Dragonzord's Photo Dragonzord Jun 16 2012

I just started yesterday on American SPG's, and being a heavy and medium player i have to say im so far really disappointed.

Up to the m37 and its just REALLY painful to play. 15 battles, 3 wins,.. .even if it hits, it often doesnt do damage, and often when you wait ages for it to zoom in, it shoots outside the reticle anyway...

does it get better, or should i go back to feeling useful?

You missed it by a couple of weeks. They were all nerfed. I was doing really well with the first 3 American Artillery until this last update. After that my kills with them dropped, so I quit playing with them in order to keep my records with those vehicles intact ... The HE shells got nerfed badly. Now I am lucky if even do a small amount of damage to any tank. I still see some people getting several kills with their Priests. I really don't know how ...

Stinks too because I was using them to get my kills up and for a while it was helping ...

It just feels so pointless.

One battle, i got 3 kills and 2 damages and guess how much xp? 300. The hell? Why would i want to do that so many times just to get out of the tank when its often around 100xp

With premium also...

I prefer the Russian SPG line because they have the fastest reload

great wording to that..

watching your arty tree grow is boring as hell but once you get a full grown tree, its fun to play in

You won't like the M37 like you are right now... You will like the M7 Priest and farther.

The accuracy issues just get worse as you go up, but the top US SPG, the T92, has the best damage in the game. It can one shot tier 10s pretty reliably, so long as it actually hits. And because it also has a very large blast radius even a near miss will still do a lot of damage and can one shot tier 8s. But I'll agree, the play style can be very frustrating and will get more so as the reload and aim times stretch out as you go up. It's certainly not for everyone.

after playing a bit more, i used my free xp to skip up to the m41, and damn this thing is awesome. it actually feels useful compared to the first 2 US SPGs :p

t-57, Ensk, shot after shot at the target with a tiny aiming cicle... That was close, that was close, that was close.

Then I did a huge oval snap shot at a scout on the run in and out of cover... Target destroyed.   ARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

My commander shot the gunner with his .45.  Services will be held tomorrow.  He will not be missed.

It all depends on your play style, it's hugely different than medium/heavy tanks.
However once you get up the tree some more you can feel the frustration of misses or.... doing an insane amount of dmg per shot that will put a big smile on your face =)

I have no idea why you people hate it. I really love the 90ish degree firing angle, rarely need to turn the tank + its a speedstir. Can always move asap if needed.

Just wait til you mount the 203mm on the M40/43 and you play your first game.

You'll get a big smile after all the times you've been shooting 105mm's or the 155's.
