This is one of the best battles I've had in the T40 and I've had over 10,000 of them. Its at Erlenberg. I'm a tier IV up against two Tier VII, six Tier VI and plenty of enemy firepower.

I think its a good example of how to drive a TD and make a difference in a battle by supporting your comrades and being aware of the situation happening around you.

Replay here......
http://www.mediafire...dh21vx6fxg5rgc4

Things to notice....

1. Don't fight on the front line as a TD (especially when you are at the bottom of your team)

2. Find a relatively safe spot with a good overview or line of sight of the battlefield

3. Follow your main force and support. In the case of this battle the enemy engaged our top guys in numbers on our left flank and I was able to hurt them while they were battling and concentrating on our guys. At no time was I shot at during that engagement.

4. Shoot the enemy tanks with the lowest HP first. I was able to get kills and therefore took out potent guns, improving our chances in the skirmish.

5. Let your aiming circle minimise before shooting. Higher hit percentage and more effective damage that way.

At the end of that engagement we had a healthy T29 and myself against five enemy. They were threatening my position from the right flank so I shot through to link up with the T29. He decided to engage the right flank head-on and I continued past him to flank the enemy around the castle. Fortunately there was a Leopard capping on my way and I was able to take him out (hoping their arty wasnt going to drop one on me). I got to the enemy flank while they were engaging our T29.

6. Use "hull down" against enemy tanks where possible. When they turn their gun on you drop back behind the rise.

7. I noticed I kept shooting the Tiger's side rear in the replay. Its a natural thing for me now - hoping to hit the fuel tank.

8. Be patient hunting for remaining arty or low tier tanks. They can still hurt bad especially from cover.

I was lucky that the T-28 was afk and the arty laid on his back for me. Oh well, maybe I deserved that. It also helps to have a T29 comrade and have things go your way  - sometimes they just do.

Cheers

Rollo

Wow great game! The best I've got at the bottom tier is 4 kills with my stock 13 90 in a tier 10 battle. It was my first game in it, but it wasn't as good as this. Good job! :Smile_Default:

10,000 games in one tank at tier 4?  WTF?  But that was a good game, nice.

"7. I noticed I kept shooting the Tiger's side rear in the replay. Its a natural thing for me now - hoping to hit the fuel tank."

After 10K games in the same tank would you even notice?  It would be natural.   Seriously, good game and good advice.

You are a survivor.  And a winner.  Like the format:  replay of an exceptional battle with an analysis.  Thanks!

lol slender. I went to other tanks after maxing the T40 before the last patch but with the new skill thingies in 7.3 I wanted to max her out again. I'm at 86% Brothers In Arms as my final skill and it will be a hell of a grind to 100% - but I have to stick it out.

I love WoT. I've said it before - its a new classic, up there with chess afaic and you never stop learning. I think guys that complain about bad win rates probably haven't stuck at one tank that they feel comfortable in. Experience in one tank is worth quite a lot towards a higher win rate.

Think I got 4/5 kills from the bottom in a t8 match in my t40. If it was 4, then it was a 4/5/3, 23/31 match on sand river, and I'll find the replay when I get on my WoT computer.

Spam gone. Ok, I'll reluctantly return for another 10,000 battles.

I love Sand River in the T40 crazy10101. I just get on a dune near either base and fire long range shots. If there's an enemy tank in the big town I'll continuously bombard the mud brick houses to keep him unsettled and until I can expose him and hit him. My favourite map. (and one of the least popular in the map survey - they should have had separate surveys for each tank type).

Sit on the dunes? Are you kidding? Had that killer round leaving south base, going to that small lump just SE of the town. It was honestly me, a light, and a heavy against most of the enemy's mediums, got em all.

I'll see them before they see me (generally). if they get sight of me just drop back off the dune. Rarely get hit in good conditions but I'll take a hit to get a kill or inflict heavy damage on them.

True enough. I've just never been a fan of sitting there, since it seems there's already 5/6 people doing the same thing. The t40 could honestly be used better in a forward position, doing light scouting; massive view range + good camo does wonders.

Sure, its got the gun (76mm) etc. and I've fought forward with varying success (only behind a strong group) but I figure I'm going to have a lot more influence on the outcome of the battle if I stay alive. If you look at my base defense stat, that probably equates to my win rate (62% in the T40). In fact I'm sure it does.

I dont find many people doing the same thing - especially where I set up. And its close to the base so its the best of both worlds. Kills from long range plus quick turn to defend the base.

Not sure what my stats are in my t40, but iirc, they weren't bad. My survival's a bit low, but my overall's 42%, so, I don't expect to survive all the way to the end. Partially cause I play arty, and partially because I end up getting blasted when I relocate by a tank that just turned a corner.

Whenever I get on the dunes, either nobody's on it, but I've already rolled out, or everyone's on it.

I wonder what the record for # of battles in a single tank is.

T40 can go scouting, unlike Amx40...cough...cough...even with its special mm.

Thats great Entellex. I'm glad to here that.

I think its important to enjoy the game first and foremost. I went through the grind when I started WoT, thinking that I had to get a bigger, faster, stronger, more lethal tank to be able to get the most out of the game. I did the Heavy, Medium, TD and even arty lines to find the Holy Grail, going through and past the T40 but I realised that it wasn't getting easier to win or kill because you just battle against better tanks the higher you go. (Thats obvious now but I was noobish and naive then). It was a bit too much of a slog and I wasn't getting much enjoyment with higher tier tanks - and I say that with all due respect to tankers who enjoy driving the higher tier tanks.

So I kept going back to the T40 and at some point decided I wanted to max the skills of the crew to make it the best T40 I could. Then it all fell into place and now I'm more dedicated and hooked than ever and having some fantastic battles, contributing to our teams wins (getting praise) and having a lot of fun. Sure, it would work with any tank at any tier but I'm more than happy at Tier IV slaughtering M3 Lees in easier battles or T29s at a higher level. Our dear MM makes sure its never too much of a doddle at any tier.

It'll be interesting to see what you settle for.

Good luck

Rollo
