I looked at the two stats side-by-side and it seems to me the only thing that the IS-6 has on the KV-5 is more, penetration and damage, more traverse and turret speed, but less armor, less speed, less HP, less ROF and with all of that it costs more.

To me it seems that the KV-5 is a better bang for the buck.

What are your thoughts?

Both are horrible, the worst tier 8 premiums. The KV5 is still probably the worst though.

IS-6 would be my choice. Simply because it has no large weak spot on the front and that it has a better gun.

I'll still take my KV-5. Facing backwards + angling will not only negate the R2 weakness, but it can also defeat most shots from the D-25-type guns. I'm not sure about punching through either of the front plates, as it doesn't seem weak like the IS-3, but the driver's port is a big enough target.

I prefer to fight Lowes over T-34s. T34s can be nigh invulnerable if played right. And in the right terrain move relaively fast. Sure there hull armor sucks. But who has problems penetrating Lowes from anywhere?

Lowe is still the best tier 8 premium.

A better gun really... a less accurate gun with only 8 more pen, almost two less rounds per min., 0.5+ seconds longer aim time, and 100 less DPM.

The kv5 would beat the pants off the is6 in a straight up fight.  The only places the is6 could pen the kv5 would be the r2 and the com turret. But with it's tall turret the is6 sloped armor is almost a 90 degree shot from a kv5.

Before the last round of nerfs to the type I would have argued this point but the type today is just a shadow of it's former self. The Lowe is the best t8 premium hands in the right hands. If you park it right all it shows is the gun mantlet and a slice of turret and everyone knows the mantlet is nigh invulnerable.

IS-6 is pretty bad for a prem and at the price of 11800 gold, blech. Maybe if it was 7500.

If I HAD too choose one it would be the KV-5 but you're probably better off buying a lowe or T34.

On the side note the IS-6 has a crew of 4 people well the KV-5 has a crew of 6.

For the money the KV5 is the best deal. It's really not a bad tank once you get used to it. Sure you have a big weak spot but you just have to protect it. No different from most other tanks. They all have weak spots. You get used to the weak gun and just start ramming people when you need extra damage. At full speed I can do almost 600 damage by ramming someone. Just try to avoid the tanks you have almost no chance against unless you like using gold rounds. That I won't do in a tank that's there to make credits.
