Great guide for old timers like me who haven't played for a year and had no idea where all those vehicle folders disappeared to.

Now if you can just point me to where exactly the decals are hidden? (ie:German Cross,Russian Star etc)

It's time for my old carbon fibre skinned N7 logo'd JagdTiger to come back =\

I actually can't seem to get it, I've tried multiple different ways as well yours. I was able to mod back during the open beta, and had various mods on the game., but I can't seem to get it to work. Not only did I put them in the 7.5 folder.

No matter what I do I can't seem to get it off the default skin, I even went so far as to replace the original game files(After backing them up of course.) With the new skin file, to no avail. I attempted to see if I was actually having a effect by deleting the entire skin file in a attempt to crash the game, and THAT didn't even work.

Later one, I found another one of the game on my main drive C:)The one I was modding in was on drive F) that my shortcut .exe was linked to, I tried modding this but this one doesn't even have any vehicle files in it. I don't even know what to do at this point.

Edit:
In addition: What just made it more confusing was the fact that putting the custom crosshair I downloaded on the C drive version of WoT which lacks any vehicle files other than modules works, but the skin still does not.

Edit, Edit: I managed to get it to work. I had to change the modded skin file back to what it was originally in the .RAR, instead of what was in the game files, which was different from the F drive version which is also 7.5. So I was forced to use the F: drives files to get the tanks number, and file information. Copy them over to the C, place them in the mod folder with the same file directories but under a different skin name then from the games original. I also don't seem to have game folders on the F: for the M24 Chaffee, lol

I am a lost cause here too...:(  tried something simple for my T40, just some gaudy red stars on its back side. created all the paths in the Wot folder, ie: C:\World_of_Tanks\res_mods\0.7.5\vehicles_american\vehicles\american\A29_T40\normal and put my very basic skin in each, just in case. None of them are found? Just a few red spots on a small, obvious area of the tank to see if it works. Anyway, the new .dds file (gimp exported) is around 10,000 kb and the original is around 2,700 kb...is there a compression I should be using which the game needs? If this is too much of a problem to explain to a noob at this, no worries...I dont NEED the skins, but they looked like fun...so I wanted to try...

Worked great thanks. Does anyone else see the skin or only you? And what about other player's vehicles. If you installed a skin do their vehicles look different as well?

Some of the skins im using work but parts of the tank are all black, on one tank its only one turret, and on another the whole tank is black. I know the files are good but im not sure whats going on here, can anyone please help?!
Is the problem related to the CM files?

Is there a way to get this to work for 8.O?

Downloaded it, tried to drag .DDS files into it, and it wont let me drag them in.

Bump. I was on an elongated break, so I can answer any questions now. This still works with 0.8.2.

About black tanks:
It could be to do with what the skinner used as a program and how they saved their dds file. The image editing program GIMP had some issues with this. If you really want that particular skin to work, I use Paint.NET (Google it) to just open and then immediately save with the correct compression (DXT1) and without mipmaps. Other programs can do this too, but I'd rather keep this thread more toward skin installation.

Parts of tanks are black/tank looks odd compared to preview:
I think this is due to Wargaming changing the UV map for that particular tank. By UV map, I mean the 2-D image we see as the dds files. The image is placed and folded in certain ways onto the tank, and if they change that it can change how an older skin looks on it. It looked real bad for old T-29 skins.

Also, remember that some tanks can have 2 sets of dds files (like the E100). Often, the second file has the turret (or one of the turrets if it has two sometimes). For the full black turret from above, it could be another case of black tank thing. I can't know for certain without the file.

Lastly, Decals:
It seems the nation decals got their own files with some other ones including inscriptions and other pictures while I was away. I recommend stopping by RelicShadow's Annoying Features Remover mod for more details on removing them.

You need that small code in front of the tank name for the folder. The Tiger I folder should be G04_PzVI_Tiger_I.

And unless you're trying to install a remodel or have multiple skins deactivated, you really shouldn't have 12 different dds files. For a normal skin, it should be 5 at maximum, 1 at minimum.

awesome..it worked!

Q- What happens if I go into a arctic battle? Does it default to the arctic camo or does the new skin show up?
What if I find a skin just for the desert....can I put it in the same folder and the game can sort out which to use?

No, it retains whatever skin you put on it no matter what the map. A tank can't have multiple custom skins. You can have as many as you want in the folder, but only one can be named correctly.

The only way it'll sort of change is if you put in game camo over it. However, it could look bad, which is why people can run blanked out CM files.

Here is an excel version of all tanks their paths in res_mod and the file names. Makes it easy to cut and paste so you avoid typos. If you don't have excel you can get the MS excel viewer here

http://www.microsoft...ails.aspx?id=10

This is the list you must download it you cant just view it from the web site.
