i tried thinking of my iv as a faster marder 2 and that's been working for me somewhat in T3-5 matches. Doesn't work for high tier though only thing i can do there is run up behind heavies piss them off and go after arty

hi, beginner here. Did the very long horrible na scout tank grind finally get my panzer IV just to realize..... it's complete crap and i have to do a lot more grinding before i start having any fun? Can't penetrate a single thing unless it's a t4 medium or weaker. I just don't understand why my shots bounce off like 6 in a row against similar tanks like other panzer 4s, other t5s. No shots bounce off my tank, even tier 3s and stuff. No I'm not using the stock gun I'm using the one you get before the upgraded turret. I load HE for t6 or t5 heavies. Am I critically missing something about where to aim etc?
The PzIV is a great tank. Level 5 is where you start to have to learn to play the game. Learn how to get yourself into positions where you get more side shots. Learn how to hide your hull and use that super tough turret. (The second one) Tier 8's are still a total Pita, their Armor, HP's and weapons give you almost no chance in all T5 tanks outside of maybe the SU-85.

The PzIV is my favorite tank in the game. It truly shines once you hit 100% crew and get that long 75mm. In my opinion, it's the best sniping tank in the game, by far. Jackhammer rate of fire, excellent camo, decent front armor, and while it's not a fast tank, it's fast enough to get you where you need to be.
Don't brawl, you'll die horribly. Find a good bush within supporting range of your allies, or take cover behind a building, and pound away at the enemy. That L/70 will pen just about anything from the side, and the vast majority of same-tier tanks from the front. Trust me, you'll love it.
Edit: Oh, and throw on a gun rammer, binocs, and camo net. You'll get a round off every 4 seconds and have absolutely insane vision range. You can pound away at targets from outside of their detection range very easily.

and my crew is now far into their 3rd additional crew skills. Usually you can take a KV out EASY.....when you stay far enough away. Otherwise you die quick. When I am top tank I do brawl and drive around like a maniac
I LOVE THIS TANK!!! Give it its time!!!

k i have the epic turret and epic gun and a camo net now and everything is pretty much forgiven. I just came off a game where I destroyed a KV1 from halfway across the map without it seeing me, and tracked/annoyed an IS until it chose killing me over fighting a tiger 2.
Anyone have a good guide to hulling down? I can't find how to do it effectively except for really obvious moments because when im trying to use a hill i can't aim low enough. The few times I do manage to pull it off it's pretty epic, t6 shots ricocheting all day.

Alot of times, not in all ocasions, I fall back to my tanker days. As I'm coming up a not too steep hill or rise, I'll go to sniper mode and move up in slow gear. As soon as I can see the enemy, I know I'm hull down. If you are atop the hill and can't depress far enough down, you may wish to pull back and let them come up the hill, tagging them as their exposed lower glacis comes up. Lots of times when I do this, I can tag them in the commander's hatch before they get all the way up, then they run back down.

Aim for upgrading the tank.
The KwK 75mm L/48 is not a competitive weapon on any hull that mounts it. Not one. In the entire game.
It's a POS without the L/70, even though the Vader turret limits what you can do with it. Wargaming has waved their magical wand of stupid min-maxing combinations over it and given you something that's suited for a particular task. Sit back out of view of the other team, use your team to spot targets, and machine-gun them with the L/70.
The L/70 will work on anything you face. Aiming and learning where to shoot is critical.
If you want more general medium tank action try a Sherman or a T-34.
The only reason people learn to play the game at tier 5 is because they suicided through tier 4, then found that doing so through 5 was impractical.

I think as you are positioning yourself, you should almost always be in sniper mode. Since you never want to expose more of your tank then you have to. With Sniper mode on you can stop just as your gun peaks over or around your cover, whatever that might be. For hulling down, try and notice the more subtle terrain. You can often get hull down relative to your target, simply by sitting in a bit of a depression in the landscape.
