While I do think that the m6 is a solid tank, due to my past experience in the tank I'm wondering why no one has said how you are almost guaranteed damage if you shoot it in the turret (thank you 83 mm turret armor) and the fact that while the m6 is not a tank any lower tier wants to mess with and tier 6 tanks prefer waiting on as opposed to going around the corner and being pounded from the side by the deep 90 mm, head to head kv-2 kills it in 2-3 shots and it just gets destroyed by other tanks and their sloped armor and I always tend to hear everyone's favorite word "ricochet" even with a spall liner And a ramming drive plus against any higher tier tank you have almost no hope honestly I would rather have kv-1s

I go further and say it's the best tier 6 "regular" tank (light/med/heavy). It's ability to play peek a boo with the excellent 90 while being quite agile and then not die if you get caught with a shell or two wins it for me. It's big downside is being a little too big and not bouncing shots for anything.

No tank is for everyone, and almost no one is going to excel in or love every tank.

Loving the M6 doesn't make it objectively great, and hating the M6 doesn't make it objectively terrible.

Well since the update with premium rounds for creds, armor pretty much got thrown out the window and the M6 became the overall best tier 6 heavy  in the game. Plus with that piece of side armor between the treads which eats any and all shells it can be tough to hit from the side on the move (or at least damage).

Whiny complainer mode on
Had a 60+% winrate in the T1HT, but having a tough time with the M6.  In my experience, the M6 gets lousy MM treatment.  The majority of games I end up in the bottom half of the list, so I'm easily penned by anything that sees me (and this big thing is really difficult to hide).  On the few games I manage to top the list, XVM gives us a 5% chance to win with most of my team mates under 45% overall winrate.
Whiny complainer mode off

Any suggestions on how to play the M6 in higher tier matches?

When at the bottom, you are a support tank.  Follow another tank or two, and fire at their targets.  You are sixty tons of death on treads, ramming is viable on distracted enemies.

The treads eat shells, so if you cannot hide, sidescrape.  You'll survive longer.

M6 is only good when facing head on with the enemy, i have bounced shots from a Tiger in mine... however if the enemy even gets a slither of a sight of your nice and juicy sides it is all over for you. Plus the flat and weak top is a magnet for 1 shot arty.

If you're bouncing a Tiger's >200mm of pen off your M6, then you got lucky with a low pen roll and some judicious angling.

The key to using the M6 is to abuse your advantages: accuracy, aim time and depression.  If you can find a good spot a medium-long range, you can drill tanks with your high DPM.  Even though the tank is tall, the excellent gun depression effectively enables you to make your tank a very small target by only exposing your turret to enemy fire, while the good aim time and accuracy minimize the amount of time you have even that little bit exposed.

My two favorite tanks at Tier 6 are the Jumbo and M6, and they're very complementary tanks.  The Jumbo's combination of great frontal armor and a medium tank gun make it great for bullying other Tier 6 mediums and Tier 5 heavies, while the M6's lethal gun makes it a great giant-slayer, tackling Tier 6 heavies and being a great flanker and support tank against Tier 7 and 8 tanks of all sizes.

The M6 is a good credit grinder and fun to play. It works best as an aggressive platoon member. Keep it to grind credits and free exp for the outstanding T29. Sure it looks like a dirty Winabago party bus but that damage is pretty awesome. I just finished a six kill game...we lost but what a rush!

Best gun for its tier, I say.

I wonder how many M6 players think of their tank as a sniping platform?  Do you play your M6 as a TD?  Comments?

You can shoot from the second line if you have some Russian heavies taking point, but if not you need to be up front; somebody has to be...

I agree.  All tanks can be sniping vehicles, including arty.  The trick here is where to snipe, especially in a M6.  Just the other day, I watched a player with a M6 camp the rear with arty, while the rest of the team went toe-to-toe on Widepark.  Nearly 5 minutes later, the east had pushed through and the west had the attackers contained.  This M6 drove out from the rear, bypassed both fronts, went down the middle to cap.  Had this M6 actually engaged the enemy earlier, maybe the west front would have done more than just contain the attackers.  The worst of this is that now that we were pushing into the cap zone, the M6 had softer targets to engage, and exploited this to his/her advantage.

My point is that while it's always safe to stay in the rear, the shortage of fire on the enemy could swing the battle, and not in our favor.  Ironically, I took a lot of heat on this from the M6 after the game in the form of flaming all because I asked him not to cap but to support the ongoing battle on the west front.
