The point of crews starting at 50%

Id just like an explanation.. You only go 50% -> 100%, since its free to start at 50%.
Any logical reason?..

Even performance at 75% is vastly superior to 50%. Just a matter of how much you're willing to pay, really.

Why start crews at 50%, when you cant see -50% on them. Might as well start them at 0%, effectively at what theyre at now.

Ah, I see. I'm not sure but this might answer it. You take a -25% performance loss if your crew is on a different tank of the same class (PZ3 crew playing on E-50) and another -25% performance loss if that crew is trained in a different class (TDs playing arties for example.)
This might explain why they start everything at 50% although in all honesty I don't know either.

I suspect it has to do with math. They have some factors that get multiplied by the crew skill to determine actual performance. If the multiplier were zero...
Though really, it wouldn't take much math trickery to hide that multiplier in the code so that the player interface showed a 0-100 progression.
Or it could simply be that it does make sense from a certain point of view to assume the crew starts out with a certain degree of skill simply from graduating tank school.

Because even a incompetent crew is still trained how to drive their tank.

You need some basic skill to be able to use the tank in the first place - if I was dropped into a tank I probably wouldn't know where to start.
Plus if you have a zero skill then meeting other tanks with 100% would be a real pain as they would run rings around you, so no fun, hence perhaps a game balancing thing; purely a matter of where you draw the line and 50% is a nice 'round' number

My money is on this answer... and I would sure hate to see how bad a 25% crew would make a tank...Ô¿Ô...

it used to start from 0% or 25% in beta, and that was too much horror to bear for beginners. so they changed it to 50% maybe 2 patches before the full release.

If you started them at 0% that like they were normal farmers and were shown what this new machine was and they were told to drive it, like right now...if anything they'd probably drive in reverse if you pressed double R lol.
50% means they "skimmed" the operators manual.
75% means they actually read the manual.
100% means they were tought by a tank vet how to drive it, they got to shoot at the range with the tank and they did a crash course, they've just been in training for the past 9 months.
The amount you spend is the amount the "governed state" (you) is willing to pay to have them combat ready.

Q: If I have a 100% crew with 93%skills in my Churchill and transfer them to another Russian Heavy Tank (KV-1S) using gold so they maintain their 100% and continued skill earning will they take a performance hit when they are used back in the Churchill?
Will they suffer a -25% when put back in the Churchill?

Actually, it is done that way to oblige common sense.
The game assumes that your tank crew has gone through basic tank training before being dumped onto the battle field. You wouldn't take 5 men who've never seen a tank, let alone know how to even get in it, let alone anything else and hurl them into a tank and into battle. That's why there is no 0% crews.
The 50% recognizes the fact that the crew have gone through the basic training required to be able to operate the tank in battle. They go up in experience from that point by actually taking part in battle.
It makes perfect sense and is one of the few VERY well done parts of the game.

no, it is one of many benefit premium tank get. any crews in same class but train for different tank can drive premium without suffer any loss in skill.

the way I do training, 75% is read manual, taught by vet. (i pay for this)
100% is go out there, get shot at for a hundred or so battles, magically be revived after the tank explodes, and beat up other tanks.(I let my crews level up to this)
starting with a 0 crew... think of the T-50-2 as slow as a maus. think of an arty that takes all match to load and aim.

I'm guessing basic training and following schools teach enough to get your crew to 50%.
A skill of 0% would represent me... somebody who has never even seen the inside of a real tank.

Geebus, come on! Start at 50% for free and you're gimped. Pay 600-1200 gold for a 100% crew, and you're not gimped. It's to make money.

0% means not even being able to start the engine. 50% assumes that you can drive and shoot; you can use the basic controls, tell a tank from a rock, put shells in the gun pointy end first... a minimum level of proficiency.

Maybe it was to imitate the massive waves of people drafted into the armies of the era just to fill the tanks with crews, regardless of who well trained they were.
You can choose to "Draft" them quickly, or spend your silver and efforts of past grinds to give them a better fighting chance, or if you're the aristocrat, send them to college with gold for 100%!
