I tend to pause for a moment at map start and see where my team is going in general, then I either follow along behind the front line, or I move to block the undefended flank. If I'm going to be holding a flank, I pick a spot with cover from artillery and a good field of view, then I wait for the scouts to come. I rarely lead a charge anywhere, even if I am top tank in the match. As the archvillain Magneto once said, "There is a reason the pawns move first in chess."

Victory!

First thing to *know* is that premium tanks are not superman tanks.
They all have just as much potential to die horribly and lose as any other tank.
They just will not set you back as much if you do.

Second, Churchill is definitely a shooting tank, if not a sniper (accuracy is horrible).
It's also not a racing tank.
This means try to get in close where you can.

It's also a peculiar tank in which it accels against tiers lower than itself, but tanks of similar tier and higher tend to chew it up (because Churchill pen is not so good unless you load it up with Gold Round$)

I like to think of it as the "Sweeper" or the "Housecleaner" and it excels at base defense.

Also note how it can be an arty magnet with its pontoon boatlike hull.
Check out my stats, time and time again I break new ground in the "Highest Experience per game" category with none other than, yup, you guessed it, my Churchill.

Thats not to say that I dont have terrible games with it either, its just a shooting tank plain and simple (think shotgun or machine gun).
Good Luck!

I was grousing about grinding credits to a friend of mine, and he told me the answer was to simply buy a Churchill and print money.  I ran out and bought one and I think I've won maybe 5 out of the 20 battles I've played it with.  Of course, I know I must be using it wrong.  I searched and found guides that list the advantages and disadvantages of the tank, but I haven't really found anything resembling a battlefield strategy guide.  My main problem is that I have no idea what my role is.  Everyone says to go out and bully the mediums, but I can never get to the fight in time.  I spend most of the round slowly wandering in search of things to maim and kill, and always arriving after everything is already dead.

I'm about ready to throw up my hands and say "what good is this thing if I can never get where I'm needed?"  Before I do that, I thought I'd ask for tips.  How do I make this tank useful?
i go with the little tanks to support them most the time also find out where most battles happen on the maps and go there, here is 1 of my battles but not my best lol

The Churchill's gun is one of the most accurate in the game and it's rate of fire is prodigious.  This tank can also take a lot of damage.  On the flat, its top speed [with Lend Lease Oil] tops out at around 28kph - so it's no slouch if driven with an eye on the terrain.

Fitted with Binoculars and a Cammo Net [or a crew with peak Cammo quals] the Churchill makes a fine medium range ambush sniper that can light up and peg enemies.  At shorter ranges the 6 pounder can deal out damage at a fast rate [aim for turret rings, driver and machine gun ports when frontal firing at an enemy to maximize the chances of a good pen], otherwise the good old flank, tracks and rear attacks work like it says on the box.

Another ploy is to buddy with a slow firing heavy [e.g. KV2/Tiger] when in a close urban environment map, the Churchill keeps the enemy's head down with its rapid accurate fire while the other reloads on WhoopArse.

A great thing is that most players you fight are relatively new, and do not know that the turret is so weak on this tank. They will try and shoot your glacis instead. In which case, angle so you show them your LEFT side more, where the machine gun is poking out of. That spot is very hard to penetrate, and your tracks will eat half the shells as well.
