Now that you have seen the video, this is the thread for discussing the responses provided by the panel. Have at it!

What can I say. I love it. Very imformative, funny and light hearted discussion on tanks. Even if you are only a little bit interested in tanks and history, this is a must see. Well done WOT and Chieftain, I will be showing this one to my friends.

Chief, you might want to lock the original thread where you announced it was released and:
1) Move the relevant discussion-related posts over
2) redirect the discussion to over here.

I did miss a few things near to the end when I went there, so great that there is a video of it! Reminds me of how cold it was.
Also is this going to be a yearly event or just a one time thing?

Grabbed the 2 hour version too. Is awesome even if my question didn't get answered (yet I hope). Bring on the next 2 hours!
Couple of production issues. Sound quality a bit low, probably dodgy mics. A few of the interview questions with white text on black background just don't come up and the intro is a little too flowery.
An interesting note on the ever present issue of transmission fires. 'Not a significant cause of concern', pity that it is in WoT.

I saw the entire video, and am looking forward to the next part. Mr.Fletcher's sense of humour was awesome, and Mr.Zaloga gave us some itty-bitty stuff that most of us don't know; not to forget the rest of the panel and the host. Awesome show.

Frankly, I think it's all down to the hit counter. If it gets lots of views, and particularly if the analytics tools show that it's coming from interesting non-gaming websites like the modellers or re-enactor crowd, then I'm sure we'll have another one. If it doesn't, they'll probably write it off as a failed experiment.

There's a difference between "something that didn't greatly concern the Germans" to"It didn't cause fires"
As Zaloga said, tanks are full of stuff that burns. If the tank is knocked out, it didn't so much matter that it was knocked out by a transmission fire in the front, an engine fire in the rear, or an ammo fire in the middle. It was kindof academic unless there were significant known liabilities in excess of that which would be expected. In conversation off-mike, it was confirmed that Panthers had been lost by fires started in the transmission, but just not significant numbers. Few shots would have hit the transmission in real life to start with.

On the EU forum there has been a lot of questioning about the repositioning the transmission system of some German tanks in the front causing fires
In WoT all damage and fires are on a statistical basis and I expect that, considering all the research that has gone into other aspects of the game, there is a valid basis for a hit at the front of a tank causing a fire in the engine compartment that may be at the other end of the tank. Consider at the energy from the impact has to be absorbed by the body of the tank in various ways, one of which is causing the frame of the tank to flex, and it is not imposable to see how a fuel line would pop and spray the hot engine and ignition system with petrol.

I think the main issue we run into with WoT is that people specifically aim there, vastly increasing what should be a chance occurrence to something quite common.

I suspect that's part of it, the other part is that we're flinging rounds which will reliably go through the front of Panthers, KTs, etc, which automatically is going to hit more transmissions than real life, where the transmission was safe behind lots of armour.

Video was great though as many people have mentioned the audio is rather uncommon at times. As for the Tranmission thing if i'm not mistaken something like 80% of all tank hits in real life strike the turret.

Is there any chance this would be come a regular event? I guess asking for more than one event per year would be too much but I'd be happy even with that.
Part 1 is outstanding and I don't doubt part 2 will be equally good.
At the beginning I felt like "well I already know all this stuff..." but then they started putting more and more interesting details and anecdotes (e.g. I never knew Patton had zip technical knowledge on tanks) and by the end I was seriously impressed; what we see on TV "history" shows is basically 5 min of actual information in a 1h episode, usually rehashed and repeated several times... but here we have several orders of magnitude higher quality of information.
Very, very well done, hoping to see more in the future.

Depends on how many people watch it. It cost a fair bit to put together, and the hit counter isn't exactly blurred from speed. Help spread the word, the more, the more likely we'll have a 2013.

Great idea and you captured some informative and fascinating minutae and info. Thoroughly enjoyed watching the full video - well done. There is so much info to absorb that I will be going back over the video again.
Waiting for part 2!
I suspect this is a 'longer term' thing that will increase in hits and popularity over time as folk hear of it.
Perhaps requiring registration for the 2 hr down load (which took about that to down load too!) will/ is putting off folk as well when they are used to more instant access on the net.
(and, as noted above, several "white text" questions on the black backgrounds do not appear - just a black screen, so you have to guess a bit what the interviewee is replying too).
Bundled with your videos from the gaming convention I have had fun learning about the tanks we game.

OMG this was a great meeting, This needs to be translated into Japanese, they would go nuts over this...
This is a great mag in Japan " Armor Modeling" "http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10183333" If I remember I think one of the editors is half American/Japanese.
You should see them about putting this onto a DVD and putting it in one of their issues, I am sure they would be interested..
here is a list of some others, that may be interested as, well.. If need be I would be happy to help get hold of some of these publishers for you.

Anyway was a great watching this, tell all my mad tank friends in Japan all about it.

Chief, will we get a better video with better audio and fixed captioning during the 1 on 1 Q&A sessions for EP1?

I consider myself a WWII enthusiast which translates to the equipment, battles, personnel, etc. and this video was utterly fascinating. I hope that you aren't let down by the WoT audience as a whole because there are plenty among us who treasure things like this when they come around. I look forward to the next already.
