I'm looking at getting my first tier 8 medium.  Which one do you guys like and why?  Which would be better at engaging a Type 59?  Would a Lorraine or M26 be a better choice?

I just did a topic asking what to get, and people said that the M26 was a decent choice, better than what the paper stats say it is.

T-44 is for brawling, being quick and having excellent traverse. Panther II has a good gun, accuracy, and pen, and decent speed. It's more for sniping because of the module damage it always gets.

It all boils down to your playstyle, but the M26 adapts to many playstyles.

About the lorry, it's getting moved to tier 9 in 7.5, and will suck being a tier 9. Amx 13 90 is a decent tier 8 also, but it's a light tank (more of a flank buttseckser).

Take into account the tier 9 transition.

If it stood in tier 8, it would be a really good choice. Mediums don't need armor because they're fast, and lorry has the best tier 8 gun.

For engaging a T59 I'd say a Panther 2, with how you should use that tank you wouldn't be on the front lines so you could get help from team mates and having 200mm of pen can get through the T59's armor.

i would say its playstyle the t-44 is a great tank for grabing your enemy by the belt and killing him. the panther two is great if you want to take some out at long range and take some hits. I highly recomend you to go for the pershing if you like you medium tanks i dont own one but i know its a beast of a tank in good hands.

I have used all three M26,Panther II and T-44. Personally I love the T-44 and add a wet ammo rack, Then the M26 as second tank then Panther II last.

A "flank buttseckser" WTF is that?

T44>Panther II  BUT they are both decent...

Lorraine is great speed wise...and fun to play...great as a sniper...but has bad armor...the M26 is ok but not as fun as the others and much slower...but decent...

Type59(since nerf) is still one of the better tier 8 mediums...try and get one(constantly look at the gift shop)!

The Type 59 is like an entry level T54 with less armor and less acceleration...a decent gun...but oneshotable with the ammo rack unless wet, imho.

You should get all of them...and play the one you like best most.  I know that is not helpful, but if you like brawling...T-44...sniping and on the move...Panther II...Sniping and "ninjaing" as you reload...Lorraine...type59 is fun to play...and was really good b4 the nerf...and still great in capable hands!

I haz all of dem.

A Lorraine armed with the 100mm will destroy a Type but you will come out of the battle limping badly.

Well, what is more important to you? Its play style or ability to deal with a 59?

For pure mayhem on the field, nothing beats the 44, followed closely by the M26. 44 is more agile, but the M26 can do hull down.

Panther II is a wolf-pack support tank: it can't knife fight(you can literally get humiliated by a T-50-2 if it catches you alone!), but it snipes very well, due to the 200mm pen gun.

Lorraine is a "wait and see" tank. You need to look for opportunities for doing a kill or significant damage before getting shot too much as well as having an escape route when your shell count is down to 1 or 2. You'll be called a "vulture tank", "kill stealer", "leech", but don't pay attention. If you're close to full HP at the end of the game , you'll have the biggest potential to deliver a victory to your team. Your help will be greatly appreciated especially by those low-HP heavies that just don't want to peak around the corner one more time for the killing shot on the bottleneck. Your full speed should allow you to get 300-600 damage quickly in the side and back of an enemy heavy before his turret can point at you.

Dealing with 59s: the news is not that great. You can win in a 44 or a M26, but you'll come out badly mauled(like 300-400 HP remaining). If the 59 knows what he's doing he'll show you his front every chance he gets.
In a Panther 2, snipe him as much as you can before he closes in on you, because he will try to take advantage of his superior hull and turret traverse in a knife fight.
This may surprise you, but the Lorraine gives you the best chance against a 59, because a fully upgraded Lorraine can easily penetrate the front of the 59. Your magazine contains 1800 potential damage, over roughly 22 seconds. A 59 will still try to close in on you, so that you can see just his turret front, but he may choose to snipe with you from long distance due to your lack of armor and penetration decay over long ranges.

As a personal opinion, I enjoyed the heck out of my 44 and Pershing and both will make you want to move up to their corresponding Tier 9 vehicles.
In the Panther 2 you can do amazing sniping damage with your 200mm pen gun.
And Lorraine fully upgraded is also a hoot to play.

Best of luck with your decision!

Thanks to all of you for your valuable insights!  Thats all good stuff to know. I am leaning towards the Panther II since I am more of a sniper than a brawler/knife fighter but I would like to have both eventually.

44 is faster no doubt but doesn't snipe as well. So if you're into sniping, P2, if you like running around like a crazy man the 44.
