the updater needs admin rights in order to update the game, you can set to automatically say "continue" to skip asking for rights to change the game files

Try running it as administrator. I have mine running as admin for WoT, WoWp, and Navyfield.

Yea you gotta have admin rights, not only because the launcher needs them but I'm pretty sure the game itself will too since it does read/write calls on the HDD

you can try to just run the WoT directly without using the updater, you just have to download and manually install updates as they come out if you don't have Admin rights
an example path to the game
"C:\Program Files (x86)\World_of_Tanks\WorldOfTanks.exe"

If your trying to do this at school, or some other 3rd party computer system I doubt you'll have any luck. If it's say your parents PC and you only have a limited account have them set up the game to run as admin. (Google how to make the executable file always run in admin.)

There needs to be a solution to this problem.
Im an adult, so don't tell me about school or that I should talk to my parents.
Before the 7.4 update I could run the worldoftanks.exe just fine without admin rights. Only for updates i needed the launcher as admin.
Since 7.4 this does not work anymore.
It is just not right for a day to day application / game to ask for admin rights for the usual execution. For updates it is ok, of course.
It is more or less proof of a badly programmed software and I'm starting to think, that they are doing this on purpose. But I can only guess why they would do that.

The game doesn't need administrator rights (only the launcher), however it does need read/write access to %temp%, %appdata% and %systemdrive%\games (or whatever install dir you choose), as well as some of the child folders in those directories. Try some of the advice from the MS KB article, the first step shows you how to check ntfs permissions.

Doesn't write access to those folders require admin privies? ( appdata specifically )?

Most usergroups have the ability to RW to those directories by default. Limited or guest users do not I think. Installing the program and creating a shortcut with an account that has sufficient privileges, for guests to use, will work.
Gotcha, wasn't sure on the specifics I'm not a fan of Vista, and haven't had the privilege of trying out Win7 yet (on my own personal boxes) still using good old fashioned windoze XP xD

Hey, thanks for your help.
I had installed WOT in the Program Files folder. I then reinstalled it in the default C:/Games folder and now it works without admin rights as before.
At least I have a solution now. But i think i had setup all the needed rights for the "Program Files/Wot" folder correctly before.
I think the installer should handle access rights in the future when people install to a folder under "Program Files". It should set the needed priviliges like it works with other software.
Thanks
