Is there any reason at all why I should research this gun? Is it ever gonna be used on other tanks or something like that? Could it be *gasp* BETTER *faints* than the BL-10?

Also: DANGIT, Facebook, quick stalking me!

There's a BL-9 gun on the ISU-152? I thought that gun is for the IS-3 line. O_o

Regardless, the BL-10 is much better. For sure.

EDIT: Just curious though, but why does my profile to the left of this post say I have "0 battles"? :(

Technically the BL-9S is higher DPM then the BL-10... just you lose 50 penetration or so and all the alpha.

nope, right now it is xp trap aka waste your xp.

there is rumor that it will play role in second TD line.

also, I suggest few time that shift BL-9S to second 122 and have D-25(current second 122) to be first 122(current A-19) instead. I feel it is good idea because person has 2 choice, higher pen or higher DPM.

even if it is true, people who want DPM would go for D-25 instead.

I just unlocked the ISU and was looking at the tech tree wondering the same thing.  It is a lot of xp for a gun that you really don't hear anything about, whereas for just a little more you get the BL-10, one of the most feared guns in the game.  You don't get that omg I just got hit by the BL-9s posts in chat.

Get it for completeness if you want but not until after you have the BL10.
I have tried BL9S & while it is better than the derp, the 40k XP cost is close enough to the 60k you need for BL10 that you might as well keep going for BL10.

If it was 20k XP for BL9S it'd definitely be worth getting before BL10.

The oddity is that from what I can find BL9 was actually a prototype TD gun like BL10 -> shouldn't be on IS3 & there shouldn't be a better S version for TDs.

BL-9S will likely be used in the second line of Russian TDs, which is why I researched it. It also appears to be a lot less hated by the RNG than the BL-10.

The problem is the pen is only 225mm which is exactly the same as Tiger2/IS3 except you are without the armor, hitpoints or turret.
Slightly better RoF isn't enough to make up for the disadvantages.

It'd be a fantastic gun on the Su152 though.
Also could be pretty good for Uralmash1 which should be quite mobile but I'd still want a RoF boost if its the top gun to make up for comparatively poor alpha & pen.

The BL9 tempted me with accuracy for proper long range sniping, but so far there's been little good feedback on it.  Given how much fun I'm having with the stock 152 on the ISU (eg. high alpha, low ROF), I'm pretty happy to push to the BL10.  Also, as previously noted, 40+k XP is so close to the BL10 you might as well keep going.  I've have horrible times with the two 122's (too many bounces to count) so I'm sticking with the overkill size from now on, but will probably get it on the ISU or the 704 because I tend to earn XP faster on TD's than I do on heavies (ie. save grinding it on the IS3).

That'll just be a waste, the TD has a different version of the BL-9. By all means, research it if you've got the exp, but it won't get you anything on any other tank.

I feel ya, if TDs and heavies shared weapons, I wouldn't have raged for about a week straight working on my Ferdinand :)

BL-9S is a nice gun. That means that you have to play in other way, ISU with BL-10 is more offensive, because BL-10 has poor accuracy, so it is hard to snipe, and you always want to do full dmg and dont waste your shot, but with BL-9S, you can snipe more, cheaper shells if you want to farm credits. I will try my ISU with BL-9S again, I love that gun :D

I'm tempted to give it a try because I'm thinking of doing elite with the ISU (yeah, masochist, what can I say), although the BL10 has made it far easier to get good XP per round (thank you SU85 107 free xp payout!).  While I don't mind being in the thick of things, the ISU isn't exactly the most nimble or tough TD around... =\

Never really saw the point on getting it.

It does look conveniently placed where the tree would branch off though.

Tech tree branches from the Su100 though not ISU or Su152.

Don't bother. It doesn't offer enough DPS advantage over BL10 to make up for all the shortcomings.

For those who seem confused, there are two BL-9 guns. Russian guns are labelled by T (Tankovoye (orudie)) or S (Samohodnoye (orudie)). Same gun, but a different mounting system, and sometimes different optics.

As such, D-25-T is for the Tank.
Bl-9 S is for a TD (self-propelled AT gun)

But to answer the OP, yes, that gun is useless on the ISU-152. BL-10 is way better.
