Hi there!

I tried using the search function as well as going through the first 4 pages of this sub-forum, but I found nothing specific on these two, so I decided to ask for help.

I am doing ok in both tanks as long as it stays within the realm of Tier 2-4 (AMX-38) or 3-5 (B-1) but even then sometimes and especially +1 Tier from there I'm starting to REALLY struggle, as I seem unable to penetrate most tanks, even from the side. The slow speed doesnt help either, as well as the somewhat horrid aiming time.

If anyone would be willing to give me some pointers or maybe even do a tutorial I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance and happy tanking,

Andre

AMX 38 and B1 are typical low tier French tanks: high armor, low speed, mediocre firepower with poor penetration. Penetrating higher tiers is always a problem with these tanks. Using HE can solve part of the problem, but mostly it comes down to learning weak spots on tanks. In the B1 especially, don't engage something you know you don't have a chance to penetrate unless you're forced to.

My advise is to get out of these tanks as fast as possible. Use free XP and convert XP if necessary. These tanks are both really that bad. You are to slow and under fire-powered to be competitive. They are not even a good learning experience as the tanks higher on the tech tree do not play like this at all.

I finished the B1 grind a short time ago and have to say that I really enjoyed it. It was slow and made me be vey deliberate about what I did and where I went. I did well with it, even if I called it "the angry cow". Avoid tanks that you know you cannot pen. Be relentless in engaging those you know you can. If possible ram them, it causes damage too. Load quite a few HE rounds and if possible always team with medium tanks or another heavy. The B1 is quite manuverable, so use that to your benefit.

I absolutely hated these tanks, they are just too slow and too under gunned to suit any of my play styles... My only tip is to try and skip them as quickly as you can. If you don't want to convert gold or grind free exp on other tanks keep your games to the daily double and X3, X5 events.

B1 was a magical tank for me. I loved the old thing. AMX 38 was meh, but I got through it. These tanks are virtually impenetrable to tanks of same tiers. Keep your frontal towards them whenever possible, and shred up lights and mediums. Use your intense rof to burn up the sides and backs of a tank, and never go alone.

They might be playable if you have a lemming play style. I obliviously don't.
