KV-1S Gun choice

Capwill73's Photo Capwill73 Jul 31 2012

Hey Guys I was wondering I just got the ability to research the 85mm D-5T would it be worth it while I am trying to get the 122 long since it looks a lot better than the 76mm S-54 that I am using right now? :Smile_ohmy:

The 122 is expensive if you lose the match, you need to get at least 2 kills and a win to make any money on it. If I lose a match and get killed it costs @3-4 k /battle.

Go for it, your tank will improve a little and you'll have a better time grinding the rest of the modules :D

Edited was to remove post, because it doesn't answer the OPs question. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

122 Hands Down. The thing makes the KV-1S a force to fear, however the ammo cost is insane so its usually best to go into Tank Companys, or have a premium going.

Did you guys even read the OP's question or simply skim a few words and then decide you knew what the question was based solely on what was obviously a piss poor effort to actually help? Hint: the OP was NOT asking if he should mount the long 122 cannon.

OP yes the 85 is better than the 76mm but personally I stayed with the short 122 (using HE) until I got the proper 122. The 85 only has 120 pen and on a T6 heavy that is, to put it mildly, lacklustre. The 122 U-11 at least gives you the chance to damage most targets you will face. It will seriously hurt lower tiers and generally cause some damage to higher tiers which the 85mm would most likely bounce off.

It also gets you used to playing the KV-1S with a slow loading gun which the 122 D-2-5T most definitely is.

Oh and if you lose money on the KV-1S with the 122 D-2-5T mounted win, draw or loss then you are doing something wrong. The thing prints money.

I print money with my KV-1S non-prem with the 122mm make around 25k on a average win

Long cooldown, poor mixing, the large scatter - all this gun is 122 mm

Yep. 30k or 40k is what I consider standard (on premium a/c). Throw in cheap repair costs, more damage per shot than my T8 King Tiger and you have a licence to print credits.

To be brutally honest I am starting to think the KV-1S is a little overpowered with the 122 at T6.

It's OP? I like this Tank yet have 40% win rate can't seem to buy a win.

It plays more as a medium tank to me and I treat it that way.

But I don't "print money" in it. No way do I think it is OP I see so many tier 9 battles that I just want to stop playing this tank (even though I like it)

Maybe I just am that awesome? :Smile_veryhappy:

But on a serious note I meant it is OP in a T6 battle ie at Tier 6 and fighting other T5/6 tanks. Probably should have been clearer on that. You only need 2 penetrating hits to do your own tanks hp in damage. Get 4 and you have doubled it. That is not a tough ask generally.

Without wanting to stroke my own ego but I am at 67% W/R and I think I already have 2 Boelters in it after only 43 battles which is crazy in my opinion. Admittedly before buying it I really did not think much of them as they seemed to die easily to my VK3601 but after picking one up and once getting the D-2-5T mounted I've discovered how good it can be. Early on the guns are pretty underwhelming and the tank sucks ass but hey most stock tanks do!

Maybe you are +1 for that !

Your stats tell a good tale.

It may be just me, I seem to have hit a wall my win % in the last 8 day just sucks regardless of tank!

The KV-1S armed with a 122 is a bit bipolar in my opinion. Like any tank it has its strengths and weaknesses, but in the categories where its strong, its incredibly strong. And it categories where its weak, its incredibly weak. I think the best way to phrase it would be to say its a very unforgiving tank; very unforgiving to the enemy if used right, very unforgiving to the user if used wrong, and very easy to exploit if well understood. I have also felt a bit OP while driving my KV1S, but when I face an enemy KV1S, it doesnt feel OP from the receiving end. I usually take them out without even scratching my paint. I'd bet you're the same way.

SixTree I reckon you are on the money there. I'm guessing the reload time is what catches out a lot of players and you are right about a KV-1S not feeling OP when you face one in the same tank.

Thanks for giving me something to think about.

Sure, but you can kill Tier8s without even trying that hard.  And it turns Tier6s into a fine mist.

Oh, sorry I was half awake and posted. Thank you for pointing that out. It was stupid of me to say that, so Im sorry to You and the OP. Next time I should just read more than once before posting. Anyway thanks for letting me know, take care man :)

No worries and sorry if I came off as sounding harsh. I am far from infallible myself.

You have to play the kv1s like a close range sniper or long range brawler due to slow aim and reload times.
