The 90mm M3 is an optimal gun for lower tier American Heavies especially the M6 which is woefully unenjoyable without it (in my opinion anyway) but why is it an option on higher tier heavies? Is it just to fill up the gun options or is it actually effective? I'm just curios.

Facebook is watching...
To the OP: I think its just a placeholder. Its not, imo, a really viable weapon for any tank past the M6.

BTW, I got a warning for mentioning Facebook.
To OP, it's just a way to give higher tiers a bad stock gun, researchable through a lower tier. It's more of just a placeholder tier 8 and up. Only really useful on the M6.

Well i think you need to look at tanks as the designers had intended. Many of the tanks we see where awful on the drawing tables. When you designing for a government cost and implementation are key. So if your design used existing equipment it was more apt to be put into production. The 90mm was a success as a infantry support gun. That was the primary roll of US tanks in WWII. That sead its in the tree, because the tanks where to use it.

Lol, if this game stuck solely to WWII, the 90mm M3 would be one of the best guns in the game. Its on par with the L56, in fact marginally better and even on par with the L70 of the Panther. Its just junk in WoT where they have it in tiers far beyond its prime...the same could be said about the M58 120mm against the M256 of the Abrams, or the S70 vs the 2Aw/e the hell on the T90...WG just likes to make Stock tanks are terrible as they can, and they DEFS do a good job of that on the US and Ger line..as well as French, Rus stock doesnt really totaly blow unless your a KV1 or IS4...

I for one appreciated starting the T29 with it rather than the stock. I found the big gun slowed me down way too much so I stuck with it until I got better tracks and the first engine upgrade.
