ELC, what is it?

mikeyjones's Photo mikeyjones Aug 04 2012

it's listed as a light, and makes a great scout, however many players will not scout with it claiming it is a td.

Picture your self on a Tier 3 arty with a stock gun and without overhead view playing at 4x speed.  Now you have an idea of what this thing is.

It's an LT with no turret and a big gun. It's stuck somewhere between LT and TD.

it has almost as good camo as a T-50-2 - and some decent speed

it does not have a turret - so it can't circle strafe

paper armor -- with a good penetrating gun - but somehow (in practice) doesn't have accuracy

its not a scout, not a TD, not a light, not a medium

its the mutant ELC

I call it a scouting TD. First you scout. When that is done you TD.

ELC, what is it?

Right now it's fun as hell, that's what it is.  I'm sure it won't last :)

The ELC is whatever it needs to be, for better or for worse.

Its awesome is what it is. Its so much fun. Needs nothing done to it. If it looses its 90 the 2801 has to loose its 105.

Like many have said, it's a hybrid LT and TD.  Fast enough to do the job with a big gun, but no hp to speak of and a turret that doesn't move.

It is fun but you can't do the whole strafe and move.  And yes it can do the passive scouting role, but as far as ripping in to hit arty, i wouldn't use it in that role, just a waste of a hard hitting 90mm gun.

And give the turret traverse here!

It's a confusing little piece of machinery. Fast as hell, powerful gun, great camo. Then there's that turret that swings about as far as a turretless TD. And the abysmal load/aim time of the gun. Like posted above, it's like putting an arty gun on a light tank frame, and then sticking it in a match with tanks that can one-hit it.

Its the most fun this game has had in some time. I love watching Heavys cringe and hide as a few of then roll up. But the new shiny will wear off soon and the game will go on.

The camo value it has is the same as the T50-2

third item - gun firing - not the same - yielding "almost"

It does NOT make a great scout. Look at the radio range and you will see why. So long as you keep thinking of Lights as scouts, you will have trouble with anything AMX.

What it is is a hybrid. Take a Marder II with it's gun two tiers higher than itself, replace the gun shield with a roof to cut it's height in half and make it less vulnerable to HE splash, give it the speed of a T-50, the camo of a T-50-2, the acceleration of a railgun slug, and the armor of a beer can, then you will have a close approximation of what the ELC really is.

And for those that think it cannot circle-fight, I say otherwise.

Even with stock tracks, it pivots quickly enough to not really need a turret. You just have to have a little skill and great timing. I have earned a few Top Guns and Confederates, but the achievement I am most proud of is the FU from that ARL around 10:20.

I got a mastery badge in this tank yesterday, it is an amazing piece of kit. I use it as a sort of one round autoloader tank. Early in the match I support with mobile sniping (yes this thing goes through the sides if anything barring the Maus) and when enemy positions are known I run in and play assassin. ELC also makes a decent passive scout on assault matches when I'm on the defence side, just park slightly (not much) ahead, pull up camo net, and watch the enemy come and get annihilated by the "invisitanks".

I've now put vents, rammer, and gun laying drive on my ELC, to excel better at mobile sniping and attacking. Suffice to say it won't be leaving my garage for a while.
