...........piece of junk. Really tried hard to find my way with this huge, slow, flat armored, open topped shell magnet. Really don't waste your money on this turd. Too slow to react, too large to stay hidden, too much money to shoot, too weak to take a couple hits from anything, " it's such a fun tank" If you like to suffer being one shot by lite tanks. Definately not for the poor or timid tanker, wait till you can handle the pain if at all.

Getting more comfy with mine. Approx 150 battles, Crews at 180%, averaging 5-10+k (net) credits per match. Seems if I can pull off at least 1 or 2 kills per match, Im golden..

Well, I’ve refrained from posting my opinions about this vehicle until I felt that I had enough experience in it in order to offer some thorough feedback. Well, at 199 battles, I’ve come to the conclusion that this vehicle is the biggest pile of 3-toed sloth dung on the battlefield.
Before I begin with my elaborative rant, I’d like to first admit that I’m not the most seasoned veteran in WoT, with just over 3300 battles, across 24 or so vehicles, however most of my time in game has been in TD’s (JP, Ferdinand, JP2, etc.). That having been said, I was excited that my first premium purchase was going to be in the TD family. I also knew going into it that a premie vehicle was not a “pay to win” situation, with most units having pros and cons while being slightly inferior to fully upgraded non-premies, but since I don’t currently have a premium account, I figured that the extra revenue accrued would be welcomed while playing a familiar class.
So, with that having been said, why am I giving the D. Max such a scathing review? Well, (sips icy blue Gatorade and takes a deep breath), here we go…
MM
The MM system treats you like you ran over its dog with your Buick. 80% of the time you’ll be participating in tier 7 and 8 battles, which just accentuates the proceeding negatives.
Amor
(or lack there of) Every tank… I repeat, EVERY OPPOSING TANK can kill you with two shots. Sure, every now and then the planets will align, and you’ll get the kid with the sling shot that tries to take you out from 87 football fields away, in which it takes 3 shots, but don’t count on surviving more than two. My current survivability in the D. Max is about 23%.
Speed
This thing is slower than molasses in January going uphill. If it was any slower, it would go backwards. I often glance over when traversing the fields and see little old ladies in wheel chairs passing me while flicking me the bird. Half the time the battle is in full swing before I even get to a firing position, or am spotted and killed before I get there. Arty operators get tingly all over when they see you on the map, cuz unless they’re cross eyed, they got an easy kill (especially since it’s also a convertible and susceptible to explosives).
Camo
I’m not sure what the camo rating is on this thing, but even with a net, motionless hiding in the bushes, with sun glasses and a fake mustache, it’s sub-par for a TD. I would think it would be better considering it’s not a terribly big profile, however the strobe lights and disco ball affixed overhead probably gives it away.
Visibility
I can’t tell you how many times I never saw an opponent until they were giving me a body cavity search with the barrel of their gun. For heaven’s sake, it’s it has an open floor plan, how can the operators not see a 27 ton tank creeping up on them? #$%@^@! It’s a convertible, just stick our friggen head out and look!
The Gun
Other than the gun depression, the 105 on the D. Max is probably it’s only other redeeming quality… sort of. The weapon is rated at 169 pen and 300 dmg, which is awesome for its tier, and is achievable if you’re in a tier 6 match, which unfortunately isn’t all that often. If you’re participating in a 7 or 8 tier soiree, you’ll have to be sitting on your target’s lap, with your gun up his left nostril poking his brain in order see those kind of numbers. Put any kind of distance between you and the target, and if God graces you with a lucky enough lob to make contact, most of the time you won’t pen. So here’s the caveat, in order to pen you need to get closer, but you’re slower than a snail in a coma, and have the armor of a ziplock sandwich baggie, and poor camo. Mmkay, you guys seeing where this is going? But wait, it gets better…
Reload
Stats on the 105 are just over 6 rounds a min. Since my gunner is only at 83%, it’s a bit longer, I think about a 12 second reload or somewhere there abouts. Try counting to 12 to yourself (for those of you who ran out of finger and had to continue on their toes, SHAME on you). Not too bad, right? Now do it again knowing that you’ve just fired your weapon, bounced a round off a 3 year old’s aluminum tricycle at 90 yards, and now a half a dozen un-friendlies are looking to reach out and touch you in an impure manner cuz your muzzle blast just gave away your position. Uhm hmm… 12 seconds just got really long. Which leads me to my next complaint…
Aiming Time
The aiming time on the 105 is like 2.5 seconds, which isn’t terrible. As previously mentioned, my gunner is in the low 80’s, so he still has a lazy eye, which increases the time to probably about 4 or something. Now add 4 seconds to the 12 second reload, and what you get is pull the trigger, get up, pour a cup of coffee, check Facebook, maybe do a little online banking, then come back just in time to watch your unscathed target either drive away, or deliver the second lethal shot that makes you a corpse. Yup, so much fun, makes me giddy just thinking about it.
Accuracy
The accuracy on the 105 on paper is .36, which isn’t awful, but is not as good as other German guns, like the .32 on the 88, or .35 on the L/70 or even the 128. So with so many other deficiencies, and considering the German weapons are known for their superior accuracy, I think that having a .36 on this gun is a mistake, sort of like putting a screen door on the outside of a submarine, or wiping with poison ivy when out in the woods. Now when you consider that the rounds are freakin 800 credits a piece, missing a T34 that is the size of a Special Olypics bus at 300 meters makes it all that more enjoyable. Which leads me to my next topic…
Gun Traverse
Adding insult to injury, the left / right traverse rate of the gun is terrible. If your target is more than 7 feet away, and they move more than 18 and a half inches, then you need to move the entire vehicle. Couple this with the oh-so speedy aim times and you have yourself a tall kool glass of frustration with one of those little umbrellas.
Gun Depression
As others have noted, this is probably its best feature. I think i read somewhere that it was the second best in the game. Although definately an asset in some situations, the vehicle's incredibly slow speed, especially in reverse, makes it difficult to play "peek-a-boom" with.
Earnings
Believe it or not, it is not uncommon for me to actually lose money with this premium vehicle. For example, in a loss that I had tonight, with a WIN mind you, I made 14,611 credits. It cost me 3,725 in repair costs (wow, what a surprise, I was killed), and 12k in ammo (and I don’t think any of my shots penetrated, thus the ammo / income ratio). That’s a grand total of 15,725 in operating costs for that match, which results in a negative flow of 1,114 credits. Let me tell you something, to suffer through a match in this weaponized piece of flying squirrel feces, and then realize that it actually COST me credits, makes me want to take my $4500 laptop and use it to club a baby seal into dog food. (Relax PETA fanatics, there aren’t any seals here in Jersey… so I use it to club homeless peeps instead).
So, in summary, I think that the D. Max is a cruel joke. I know there are people that say they love it, but just like people who get their genitals pierced, and those who vote Democrat, I just don’t get it. Not only should Wargaming.net let me get my gold back, but they should pay me extra for my pain and suffering, then come to my house and mow my lawn for a month.
*end rant*

Nice writeup Incission, it more or less matches what I've found with the D.Max, although I don't think I've lost money with it yet, but only cuz the slow speed and fragility don't let me fire so many rounds.
#46 Posted Sep 07 2012 - 14:31
@Incission
I can pretty much concur with with everything you said, and Im at approx 200+ battles with 61% H/R....I still like it and do ok. But, Like you its my first premium, so I didnt know what to expect going into it.
Yea...the key to earning with the D. Max is dont die and make at least one kill. Which is the hard part...surviving long enough to make that kill. Im still running a standard acct. so it does average more income credits than anything else I have. I think my Derp guns are more accurate. My Crew is at 190+% now.. and Im running Binoc, so hopefully things will get a little better. Im still running a
At the end of the day..its a Tier VI Marder as far as Im concerned....if you dont like the Marder..you definitely wont like this one everybody.

You could easily spend 15k just replacing ammo after a match. Add to that repairs or maybe consumables like repair kit or first aid and you don't make nearly as much money as with other premiums. People just listing how much money they make per match are not taking into account how expensive it is to run.
This tank is not for making money. It is a fun tank to play though.

I actually make similar earnings in my Type 62 and Dicker Max, which I assume is WG's intent for tier 6 premiums. I think people expecting to make Type 59 or Lowe money are just setting themselves up for disappointment. Tier 6 premiums can still make steady credits if you play decently.
A lot of people are pretty harsh on the Dicker Max in general. It is a little finicky, but if you can use the depression and awesome gun to your benefit, it is pretty easy to get results. The only things I do not like to take on are tier 8 heavies, anything else can at least be softened. It also takes more patience then the more durable vehicles, it simply is not meant for first line fighting. You are either going to support as 2nd line or you are going to be holding an area down.

im on the 8.0 test, i know i should be playing with those new TDs and checking the new physics/graphics ( in which they are awesome) but im having fun with this Dicker Max.. i just stopped testing all the new stuff and right now i plan to buy one in my wot account, this tank is awesome.

Lmao! Your descriptions were hilarious. But I just maybe play differently than you, or maybe because I've got 7300 battles with over 40 different tanks that I still don't see it as you do. I wish I had video of you playing with it to see what's going on. I have so many 5+ kills matches with it it's like cheating. Maybe you're playin to aggressive or something? I rarely make it to half way across the map in this tank. And I rarely am the one spotting my targets. Not dogging on you or trying to toot my own horn by any means but I rarely bounce in this thing and when I do I'm pissed because I'm spoiled by it. And maybe the gun seems faster because I've played heavies with 4 rounds per minute guns that makes it seems great to me. Who knows. Wish you had more fun in it! I see more and more of them on the battlefield each day. Good luck!!

My only real gripe is the accuracy, since it needs to be played as a sniper. I am still 10% away from having BIA on one crew member (rest are 100% already), so I want to see if that helps any in my thoughts about this vehicle. It does remind me of the Marder with shells flying randomly into the air missing your intended target (and yes I use the server reticle).
EDIT: The thing to remember is that the second German line will play like this. So if you really don't like this type of vehicle you probably won't like the second TD line. In fact it looks like the German TD line might be held up longer while they sort this all out. The thing to remember is these vehicles are all about view range and the gun ... so it really needs to be accurate.
