You can run out of 30 rounds with the 75L/70 if you have a great battle or shoot a lot. With the 88L/56 the ROF is much lower so you won't run out.  Plus, you really need to take the time to aim with the 88 because it has worse accuracy and penetration than the 75L/70.  In fact, knowing where to aim is critical as you get into higher tiers since if you aim at the wrong spots your rounds will bounce all day long even if you are driving a great tank.  If you don't already know where the weakspots are on the tanks you face, read up on the forums to find out. Some tanks have stong hulls and weak turrets, whereas some are exactly the opposite.  Some like the KV-5 have strong armor everywhere except a few glaring weaknesses that you absolutely have to hit if you want to cause any damage.

I have played it with the 88 and 75,  with the 88 it does more damage,  but seems more sluggish.  With the 75 I suppose it plays more like an E8,  higher rof,  more agile.

Honestly can't say which is better,   I only just started trying it with the 75 after seeing others using it,  so put one in to see how it played.

Either the long 75 or the 88 will serve you well. Bit over 700 games in my 3601 and I prefer the 88.

Its not a huge moneymaker....but when youre pulling in 20-25k profit per game ,and i'm having fun i don't pay attention to my bank. The fact that i'm making a profit is a bonus.

What the VK3601 is capable of on a standard account:
http://forum.worldof...601h-the-beast/

In short: about 1K exp, 32K credits, Bolter's medal

With over 1800 battles in the 3601(h), my crew also has alot to do with how successful the tank is. I grin each time I am rushing to another position and manage a lucky 200m or more shot on another tank while I am moving. Even if it does no damage it makes me grin.

OP, you are in the accuracy line of tanks.  your stats say 43% hit.  that is your problem.  Take more time to aim. Let the reticle close fully before shooting.  Those tanks have amazing accuracy compared to some other lines.  and that tank has even bounced my kv1s big 122 shots from time to time.  Use your scroll wheel on the mouse to zoom in.  fire from cover then retreat to reload.  That tank is a great tank.  I enjoyed it and the tiger better than the 3001p and the tiger p.  hope it helps

yes it helped another tanker told me the same advice really helped now im hurting the Kv3 and 2 And the KV1s And Kv1 i an take out if i got the rear or sides or the low hull now with my 8.8 close range penetration is Very powerful i can deal a 200+ damage to Kv1\1s\2\3 But i find it hard to hurt others like the kv4 and the kv5 or the t29 but in short this tank if played right it makes you a beast !

Read up on where each tank's weak points are.  You can shoot the 88L/56 all day long at the wrong spot and get bounce after bounce.  The VK3601 is just a tier 6 but you will have to battle up to tier 8 tanks and knowing where exactly to aim is necessary from this point on.  It takes time but you'll figure it out if you put some thought and effort into it.

Also, some people don't agree but you may want to install a hitzone skin mod.  It will put different colors on the critical locations of tier 8+ tanks.  (Let's not turn this thread into a pro or con hitzone skin discussion.  Plenty of those already.   Just seemed like a good time to point out the option to a fellow tanker who might benefit.)

I have recently started this line, and am enjoying the vk36.01. I upgraded my turret and barrel at same time; I like the 8.8. Coming from the russian heavy line, this is still accuracy incarnate. I hope you enjoy the tank. In a meta-game line of thought though, after upgrading, reading, and trying a tank, if you don't enjoy it, don't worry, there are other tanks. Different styles are helped by different tanks, but as long as you know the weaknesses and strengths, the lower level tanks i play seems to be forgiving to styles mostly because a tank gets pigeon-holed and the enemy isn't expecting a novel play style. Also, having superb crews seems to be the thing to do. For premium, I can say the popular KV-1 is a reasonable alternative for credits. But any tank you like playing a lot and is in the green is good.

The 3601 (H) is a great tank:

Victory!
Battle: Widepark Friday, August 31, 2012 12:07:36 PM
Vehicle: VK 3601 (H)
Experience received: 7,925 (x5 for the first victory each day)
Credits received: 32,173 (compensation for damage caused by allies: 525)
Battle Achievements: Bölter's Medal, Top Gun, Sniper

Destroyed 8, Damaged 10, Spotted 5

You have to be fairly agro with it, but carefully so.  You have a great gun, decent mobility, but armor is a concern.

Thanks to all for interesting and detailled posts. I have a question for you guys regarding guns. The 7.5cm /70 has slightly better penetration than the 88cm, and almost as much damage (135 x 13.04 = 1760 versus 220 x 8.11 = 1784). The 44 additional damage per minute is not that high (2.5%), and one may prefer to have more shots since you sometimes miss. Yet everyone agrees the 88cm is the way to go. Where am I missing something?

In WOT alpha (amount of damage per shot) is very important.  If you are just facing each other in the open trading shots, DPM is all that matters (as long as you can penetrate) but in general everyone avoids just sitting there trading shots.   You often get one shot and either you have to get back into cover or they get back into cover.  It's true that with the 88 you give up a little pen but it's worth it to get more damage per shot.

The VK3601 is a do it all tank.  It can snipe but that's a waste of its abilities.  You can think of it either as a well-armored medium or as a fast little heavy.  Either way you want a gun with higher alpha.
