KV3...the best gun choice?

Is the 107mm the gun of choice for the KV-3? I see the 100mm has better pen...but not quiet the damage. The 122 I hear is vary expensive.

the 100mm shoots reasonably fast (8RPM) and has a high penetration valeu (175mm), its also rather accurate (0.36 deviation). great utility gun it can snipe, be used in close range fights, punch through heavies and is very maintainable (cheap shells)it is the low damage option though (220 average)the soviet equivalent of the long 88 (220dmg, 203 penetration 0.3 deviation 9RPM)german cannon
the 107mm gun is the middle ground gun, it sacrifices a bit of ROF, penetration and accuracy for a big boost in damage (7RPM, 165mm penetration, 0.4 deviation and 300dmg average)very maintainable. its a gun capable of supporting other heavies aswell as being used "solo" it isn't the best sniper though and it has a tendancy to shoot people to 2-3% requiring 1 additional hit for the kill
the 122mm (cannon not howitzer)is the expensive high damage (390 average) option, its slow (4.5RPM)has a high pen valeu (175mm)and marginally accurate (0.4)each shell cost slightly over 1000 credits a pop. its a gun used for front loading damage (you're going for 1-hit-kills because you want to avoid having to reload in the open), exellent if you're moving behind other heavies and trolling you're way through their lines. a platoon of 2 KV-3's equipped with this gun will kill any T6 or lower tank (save KV3) in a single salvo (assuming hits)

The 122mm does bring in more credits due to higher damage, but costs a lot to use, resulting in a lower net gain. It does bring in more experience points as well.
I personally used the 122mm when I got it for my KV-3, and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind the lower credit gain. At the KV-3's level, credits will come much faster than experience for upgrades and moving up tiers, so at that point costs shouldn't be to much of an issue.
Also, the 122mm cannons (D-2-5T, D-25T, and the BL-9) are what you will end up using when you move up the tiers.

I did not use the 122mm on the KV3 but i would certainly use the 107mm over the 100mm. The 107 seems to have much better penetration and bounces a lot less than the 100mm even though its pen is lower and it does a lot more dmg. You can still snipe with the 107 when crew is upto 80+ and hit targets at longish distance and the shells are also very cheap so a miss doesn't make you cry at lost credits. You may as well research both weapons because the IS uses the 100mm D10T until you have upgraded the turret so you have to spend exp on it at one point or another.
I have been tempted to buy a new KV3 just so I can use the 107mm zis 6 again, that is how highly i rate that weapon.

I fully agree on the 107mm zis6. Might just be the best weapon I used. Perfect accuracy, I only miss if I do something stupid, good enough damage- well you're not going to damage tigers from the front a lot but they better watch out if you shoot their sides. Just research all the guns, you will need them anyway and use the 107mm. That's my advice.

I have used all 3 guns and I preferred the 100mm. Not by much, but enough. The 100mm has better penetration and it always felt like it to me. The extra RPM saved me a few times. I had better rounds using the 100mm than I ever did with the 107.
Here's what I said about it on the KV-3 thread.
In short, you can't go wrong with the 107, but give the 100 a chance and keep an open mind. A number of us KV-3 users prefer it to the 107. Give it a shot, I think it's the better gun of the two.
Cheers,
Logan

107 Zis.
Use it all you can with KV and KV-3. It doesn't disappoint.
100 bounces too much.
KV-3 armor + Zis = a rare sweet combination.

Some might not agree, but I've noticed a lot of oddities with the D10T that never happened with the 107mm (bounces when it shouldn't have, airballs, disappearing shots, etc.). The 107 has slightly "inferior" stats, but for some reason has always performed better for me than the 100mm. Maybe it's because I haven't used the 100mm since beta, but it feels "wrong" on the KV-3.

I use 122mm and with rammer and vents it shoots fast enough for me. Just have to make sure you hit the target. The power behind it usually kills most thing your tier with 1-2 hits.

i prefer the 107mm. the low RoF of D-25T is really painful and very often you don't really need that much of damage.
And ammo cost
270 credits for 107mm
1000 credits for 122mm
i use around 10 rounds 122mm in my IS now and it's very difficult to make any money.

You need money for IS and 122 sux in low tier games. 107 killing people, making money. 107 ftw.

Recently went in to a match in my KV-3, a very astute player asked why I had the 85mm equiped. I said I have the 107mm going. Well turns out when I bought the damn thing I forgot to throw the 107 on. Wow I can actually cause damage to tanks now. Thank you to the person that helped me out, attention to detail? good thing I work in health care.

If your looking to make credit's with the tank the 107 is the way to go about 300 credits a shot
If your looking for some fun and city brawling get the 122 but at 1000 credits a shot your not gonna make a whole bunch of credits
100mm is useless for %5 more penetration you lose %25 damage from the 107 and 1 extra round a min won't make up for it.

I elited my KV3 using nothing but the 107 once I could mount it. On my T-34-85 the 100 is great, but I'm with destruya in that it just doesn't feel quite right when on the KV3.
