Okay, recently, I've toyed around with my KV-1 again, and got the upgraded turret.
I was shocked.
Hearing about it before, I thought it would be a slightly heavier armored version of the KV-1's stock turret. Instead, I find a hulking chunk of steel, even thicker than the T1 Heavy's turret.
At first, I just enjoyed it. I liked the more streamlined design and the thicker armor. However, I went to thinking - what model of the KV-1 used this turret in real life?
I went through some old data files, browsed for a while on the web, and checked out a few Russian websites with KV-1 pictures. As far as I had gathered, no model at all used the turret, neither the prototypes or production versions.
Can somebody clarify what this turret's significance in real life was? Or was it another fictional turret to make Russians even more OP...

KV-1's got field upgrades of turret, just additional plates wielded on outside, it was done on mass scale in standarized manner so it can be taken as standard upgrade.

Some of the variants had it, but not sure which specific model.

1943 model used it IIRC. This turret was designed in 1942-43 and was used in last produced KV tanks.

Ah. Understood. Thanks for telling me. Perhaps some kind of welded applique armor? Or spaced armor kit delivered to tank crews?

Also a bunch of the older turrets did have applique armor added to bring them up to 110mm both before & I believe after the single-piece version.
I saw some reference to Uralmash even doing drop-forging.

AFAIK ChTZ's turret were used by "KV-1K"/ (KV-1C in western sources IIRC) models.
