I downloaded a version of Windows 8 from Microsoft Dreamspark (it is for students and education purposes) decided to reformat my PC with it and I can not get the game to open.

It seemed to install correctly, but when I click on the Icon on my desktop and the launcher comes up and I hit PLAY nothing happens. The launcher closes like its going to open the game, but nothing ever comes up. Even my xfire for a second or two says that I am playing World of Tanks but then that dissapears like the game closes.

I tried running as administrator and running the game in compatibility mode, but nothing seems to work :(

I have seen other people say that it works with Windows 8 so some assitance would be appreciated.

Windows 8 pretty much destroys most accessibility to games.

Windows 8 is junk.
Steam reports that they are trying to get all games to convert to Umbutu, due to 8 instability with games.

Well besides tanks not working there is nothing wrong with windows 8. Yes it was designed mainly for the tablets and touch PC's, but doesn't mean it wasn't going to work well with my desktop. At this point I feel like I am just going to save myself the trouble and go back to windows 7 for the time being. Sorry for making a topic... didn't plan on going back to windows 7!

Nothing wrong with Win8, it improves just about every component Windows uses. The metro can be disabled easily.

Anyway try starting worldoftanks.exe and see what happens. Posting a dxdiag might help as well.

I went back to 7. Had clan wars that night and didn't want to spend all day trying to make it work. People said windows 8 also had problems on steam so overall it wasn't going to be worth the trouble.
