Earning Boots

Still plugging the facebook page, come on lads!
One of the things I kept an eye out for when I was at the Maneuver Conference was a new set of boots. Of the various merchant stands which were on the show floor, there were a number of boot manufacturers hawking their wares. All sorts of size and colour, except the type I was looking for. Benning may be the home of Armor and Infantry, and the Maneuver Conference may be the combined replacement for the Armor and Infantry Conferences, but you wouldn’t know it from the boot manufacturers. I would point to my feet, and say “I am looking to replace these worn-out boots”, the man manning the stand would go “Oh, tanker boots,” and then express his regret that his company did not accommodate us treadheads (I have since found a replacement pair at the Irwin PX).

that was a very interesting post,in fact i read ALL OF IT,didnt quite understand tho cuz im dumb :P
Anyway MAKE MOAR!!!
I acctually prefer the articles posted on the forum rater than the game client, here we can discuss and have the time to read all of it,cuz when you click the client, its because you want to play,i personaly never take time to read those from the Client(except the article about the BEF hehe).
what they should do is,post the link in the client, when the player has some spare time he will read it in the forums wich is ALOT better.
-Cheers,good post btw.

Well, the game knows when one tank is spotting another. If this is saved somewhere in the replay data, then your training exercise could be duplicated pretty easily.

You know, that's not the worst possible idea. What would you suggest as the criteria?

Using their coaxle mg in training was interesting, wonder what happened if they got 'lucky' and took out optics, cannons or any of the other more fragile necessities.

Thanks for bringing back the memories, Chieftain. I earned my tanker boots as a 19F at Grafenwöhr, FRG, along with my tank weapons badge (expert). Through the years as a 19E and then 19K, I've always believed - You earn your boots on VIII (Crew Qualification - I guess they call that TTVI now), you earned your spurs serving in a Cavalry unit (D, 2nd ACR), and you always bet on YOUR crew.

As an old 12B (Engineer) (you know...the guys who kept the tankers from getting their feet wet, breached mine fields for them, and took out IED) your story brought back some old memorys. Back in the 70's when we were building that 3Km tank range at Graf as our yearly "build something" training the Army had us do as Combat Engineers, I remember the OD green hat that was only got at Graf...hince the name "Graf Hat". It was something to wear around the noobs to show your did your time in Graf

Earned my boots after TT VIII and TT XII (top platoon in 2-12 CAV, 1CD 2003). Got the spurs in Iraq (melted down .50 cal ammo brass). Stetson is on my wall. Wore that after designated "most lethal platoon" in 2BDE at NTC.Still have my black boots ones shined and in the closet in case we ever go back to good looking uniforms.
An idea I would like is gun rings. Take the max kills in one battle (not per tank but overall) and whatever tank you are driving would have them on it. Would be a good little pride thing.

As an idea for earning your VR Boots, why not have a traingin room mode for it.
Have a team of 5 max go into the room.
Use Marikova (sp?) as the map..modified by adding water down the rightside all the way from east to west.
Tankers set up on building side. already has gun redoudts.
Have T1 tanks drive across the hill opposite from let to right or right ot left.
Set up TD's as hidden objects that shoot randomly to be popup targets.
Have whole thing set on time limit.
At least thats my idea.

Since I am a retired U.S. Army Tanker ( Iron Knights B Company 4th Bn 66th Armor) of 24 years or so. I have kicked this very thought around. To earn your boots, you must fight to earn. Please don't ripped me up and down... But, running TT VI or TCPC won't just cut it. We don't need set enagagements ( Oh I do miss that Widow Maker enagagement). We must FiGHT to EARN. Since every tank has a wingman, I think we should do a 5 on 2. That is right, 5 bad guys vs you and your wingman. You would need to complete 3 missions; Defense, Offense and Movement to contact ( AKA encounter style). We will need to kick MM to curb for this, the tiers will need to be exact. Then you have to earn your boots for each tier starting lets say 6+. Now, we want the team of 5 to be tough, it should not be a bunch of REMFs. The team of 5 should have at least two season (already Earned Boots Qualified) and three others. After the completion of 3 missions they are EBQ. The maps, we should use? Thats is up to you guys. My two cents, make it random between 5 maps ( but, I believe that the starting points for both teams MUST BE RANDOM.If not, it would be the same old same old) . I cant stress enough, this should be very challenging... and very fun and a welcome change of pace.
I think this would be fun for all classes and branches even those Arty guys, They can bring thier scout friend T-50-2.
Instead of using the term "Earned Boots Qualified" or "to earn your boots " just make it rating or medal named: Qualified.
Another quick thought: Create challenges where players find themselves in some very tough spots. For example, 15 vs 5 aka "The Last Stand". I am sure other line dog tankers have some great ideas. The point is: Instead of going to standard battle, you would a challenge opition. This could open a new world full of new challenging missions.
Just an old Tanker with bad knees lol ...

Great article!
And a very Interesting concept Cheftain.
This is just an idea and I am going from memory, but it might be workable.
How about using the Malinovka Map in the East - West orientation and then reverse for each round? (everyone always hates the Malinovka map it's personally one of my favorite maps to be honest )
The target can move across the open area in predetermined "lanes" (dependant on view range of the tank doing the course) from either direction with a spotter on the East Bank of the central lake (this allows them to be out of the line of fire, but spot effectively).
For the West (Target position, East Firing) The "trainee" will take up position on the Eastern Flats (lane positions used earlier) The "Spotter" will remain in position at the tree line on the Eastern Bank of the lake. The "target" can move via the road through town giving the "trainee" a target that will pop in and out as they pass between the buildings, or they can move across on the eastern side of the buildings.
You could also have "pop out" targets from the Church and the forested hill to the Northeast of town, this would also work in the opposite direction with "pop outs" behind rocks or the buildings on the Northside.
Just an idea
It would need to be looked at and tested ... as I don't have any friends here in WoT I can't really do it, but if it was considered I would really like to take part in the testing.
