Been using the 57 since they split KV into KV-1 and KV-2.. Love it. Rammer, 100%, BiA, winning.

I was skeptical, but after seeing enough people rave about it here, I bought the 57mm for the KV. I haven't had a tier 7 game in it yet, but it's fun as hell in tier 5 and 6 games. No one expects a heavy to fire like that.

Maybe with a 100% crew the 122mm might be good. My issue with it is, it just fires to slow and can't hit much at a range. With it's slow speed enemy tanks can get around to your weak spots and hammer you while you are reloading if you miss that first shot. With the 85mm even if you miss which is not all that often you can hammer them again quickly. Only down side the the 85mm I have found is fighting tier 7 heavies, it is just hard to do much to them and you lack the speed to get to their weak points. But then it is always hard to fight tanks two tiers above you.

I have a 100% crew with rammer, vents and binoculars equipped. I still don't like the 122mm, but probably because I don't like its "shot, hide, reload, move, repeat"  style. I use 85mm and it's funny to scare a lot of people that waits you're using derp gun.

I like the 85, the KV-1 i have has the most battles of all my tanks...
did not like the slow RoF the big gun has...
i did well with the 122, but after i put the 85 on and had crew and first perk at 100% i generally have anywhere from 3 to 5 kills a match.
it is rare if i do not kill at least 3...

57, 122 and 85 are all good choices.  Tier 5 the 122 Derp is at its pinacle its pen still very good and damage enough to 1 shot things.  once you get past tier 5 its power falls fast.  So that TD are the only real effective derps (soviet mainly), SU-152 I currently have and its amusing with 152 but even with 135 avg pen still hard to use at times wanting side or rear shot and any sort of range your hoping for the best.

57 is rapid fire doom like a swarm of bee's its fun to do at times but have Churchill so ehhh.

85 recently picked up and using its quite reliable and decent damage ROF seems a touch low but across tier 5 it fits in right.

As for which one you will like best well ehh spend a little time research it and try it out something new to play with.  Its a whole 4250 exp so not hard to get.  but as main gun of KV-3 you get it by default when you research KV-3 so you can skip if ya really love other guns.

I used the 122mm before the patch change, but I much prefer the 85mm.  Good pen, and you can really reach out and touch someone with it. If you're a brawler, stick with the 122mm, if you like to sit back, go with the 85mm.

I love derping with the 122, and until recently had my most kills in a match with this combo. However, I get really really frustrated with the (non) accuracy of this gun, and its ability to miss entire tanks at even modest distances, and weak spots at anything above face-hugging range.

57mm is a blast for low-tier matches is fun in a different way - pew! pew! pew! hahahahaha.

But the 85mm is at least for me a far more flexible gun. It's still no sniper, but I can hit from any reasonable distance, hit weak spots reliably, and I don't get rushed in between shots when brawling the way smart light/meds do with the 122. I miss the one-shots of the 122, of course, but for every one-shot, there's a bounce to match, and often doing some damage now is far better than potentially one-shotting a tank in 14 seconds.

I've moved to the 85mm almost exclusively after several matches gone terribly terribly wrong with the 122.

I used the 122mm to start with, and I'm currently using the 85mm with great success (best is 9 kills) but I will check out the 57mm. If its similar to the Churchill that would explain why people like it - the Church is a machine gun

I love the 122 on this thing. Especially when I rack up the Reaper count. I almost salivate when I run into a pack of Tier 4's. It's also effective in Tier 6~7 matches and makes a great support tank. If you do run the 122 is suggest loading 5~10 HEAT for those tricky situation in a Tier 7 game.

Zero need for HEAT against tier 7 or tier 8.

If you are trying to take on something from front with 3.4 sec aim time and huge profile; you are going to die horribly against higher tiers anyway.

Kv-1s will be support tank against higher tiers because it can bounce frontally and has huge reload time; more for shooting enemies in side amour while they reload.
Which means you do not need extra pen from HEAT ammo, at all(and even if you do; you most likely will miss or hit the tracks anyway).

KV-1 doesn't see tier 8s. HEAT works fine against tier 7 tanks.

I am not a fan of derp, but I was having trouble being effective with the KV-1 and 85, so switched to the derp.  It pounds arse.  I actually soloed two other KV-1s with a non-derp (seperately, I bounced so many shots from their gun), plus one shotted a couple more tanks in the match, and realized that the 122 at tier 5 is pretty ridiculous.  Now, if you get put in a tier 7 match, enjoy your 30-100 dmg on most shots.

The 122 is no good, its lovely against low tier tanks, but so's the 57mm, HEAT might help, but the pen still aint that great, and its a helluva more expensive. The 57mm is the best as far as low tier meat chopping goes, its pretty much the churchill gun though. The 85mm is the best though, because it has the pen for tier 5-6 tanks face to face, it has the ROF and accuracy to aim for weak spots and take long range pot shots, and it can win a shoot out against any tank in its tier. The 122 does well in low tiers, but honestly, its a joke compared to the pz IV and Shermie derp guns, which have a flat out OP ROF and better acc in exchange for a bit of pen and damage less then the 122. In short, the derp and 57mm are very situational, the 85mm is a jack of all trades gun that can deal with anything your likely to face, with the exception of the occasional tier 7 heavy, but if ur fighting those face to face, the derp wont help anyway.

I'm not a big fan of mini-derps personally, so I would go with the 85mm, DPM is pretty good.

It is pretty funny when the Churchills think they are going to machine gun you and they get it right back in the turret.
