All the nominated arts are like brothers - nothing that really catches the eye. And some really good ones were ignored. :Smile_amazed:
Why for example my work isn't in the list? Is it so bad? Many people like it.
I'm discouraged..
This arts was made special for NA and designed special for WoT advertising

Apparently what they wanted people to shoot for was "Highly unoriginal, and redundent" I'll remember this for the next contest

Why are some of the submissions just video that wargaming made, then had just paused and put text on it?

That picture doesn't look right.

I'm gonna use one of the renders I got from my world of tanks in store box from the cd and put roll out for the golden joystick see if I win

At least we won't hear the same complaints about up-voting and down-voting this time. Very good idea to have voting in a poll format.

Hey everyone,
We had many many great submissions, as you know. It was really difficult to narrow it down but we selected the ones we thought were strongest. Please don't be discouraged, we have lots of creative contests and we look forward to seeing more from all of you.

I don't understand as to why you guys will pick entries that had nothing to do with originality and a lot to do with redundancy...I mean, your videos were so cool and people watch them over and over, then you get these submissions with the videos on them and you think they're still cool? Where's the creativity in that? All I see are just loopholes to finding a way to an "awesome" submission cuz your videos are cool to begin with. 4 of your static entries all are mere cut outs of your wallpapers and then slapped some extra images here and there, but the point that the subject is the wallpaper is still there.

The bumper sticker was a disappoint, the tank modeling was a disappoint, why did I bother to enter this contest I wonder... :Smile_sceptic:

Well whatever, I've voted for MasterTactics and Dragore just so you know. At least MasterTactics cut the videos damn nicely and timed them right along with the animated text. Dragore got my dibs for not using the redundant black then tank wallpaper.

seriously?  =/

I spent 3 days just to have a good idea, I made 5 signatures before getting something interesting; not that my work was the best or was hard to do, but there were lots of nice ideas like the edwin009 one, signatures with different effects, drawings... and almost all the static choices are only WoT official images with the award symbol

I'm not even trying anymore, or next time I will just write something above an official image

I think it might help (or make things worse) if I shared my personal opinion about the things I like about each of the final pieces.

Animated:

Big Soke - that animated particle effect is great, using the tank to frame the space the text World of Tanks will occupy when the animation resets was a great design solution

Redivan - the color contrast, the movement, the WG icon rotating around vote are all great looking

Tea – love the tv, love the glass shatter transition to the footage, like the contrast between the blue and brown/tan

Jellyknife – love the banners dropping and rising, love the detail of the tank hitting the rock, very creative

Master Tactics – extremely polished result, the font and white industrial clip art were a perfect fit, perfect pacing that slows at the end to reveal the joystick awards logo. Granted, he used the existing video resources, but he used them masterfully. Pun intended.

Static:

KnightTiger – great composition, lots of information delivered very effectively, looks great

Sypherium – I like that shiny, candy like vote button, like the WoT emblem behind the logo, liked the Roll Out… font which is something submission struggled with

VicariousVision – it is similar to Sypherium’s but they both discovered a composition that works well. Vicarious’ take was able to offer larger text which I also think is great

Dragore – I like the subtle customizable feature, I love the way the eye sweeps from top left to bottom right, I really like the hews in the image (feels like an autumn battle)

Cardonaa – movement. This piece has tons of motion, I love the focused placement of the info, and I think the Roll Out… font was a cool, not-obvious choice

As I said, art is subjective and personal. Most things creative are. So I wouldn’t want to say something is good or bad – and some of you are taking this pretty hard, I just wanted to articulate the positive and unique things I see in the finalists.
I am off to make sure those Clans behave themselves. Enjoy the contest. I am excited to see what you guys offer up next time. Maybe we can have you guys design my sig. Enjoy the boards, enjoy the game.

Thank you for your vote.  In case any others are wondering,  there was actually a lot of work put into my banner.  It may seem like just cutting and pasting clips but it's a bit more complicated than that.  Some of the details that might not be apparent are:
  • It took three different programs to create the banner: Photoshop, After Effects, and Flash.
  • Photoshop was used to create the red flame used in the "Roll out for the..." gray scale scene, and to export the .gif (optimize it and get it down to size).
  • AfterEffects was used to stitch together a scene from the cinematic trailer with the british trailer.  The british trailer was edited for lighting (to make it look like the same consecutive scene in the banner).  The end result is people thinking the explosion at the end is one consecutive scene.
  • Flash was used to stitch everything together and to create the end scene on the banner.   The end scene (with the tanks on the field) was built from scratch and not taken from any resource.
Overall It took me 10-12* hours of fiddling to create the banner.  Feel free to PM me if you'd like to know more.  Thanks! :)

* Ignoring the time dedicated to reading tutorials or figuring out what I wanted to do.

is not that they did a bad job... the thing is, when I heard about the contest I was looking the site for ideas, the first thing that came to my mind is not to use any official artwork, not because I couldn't, but using others' artwork, official artwork, and not even customizing it, just writing on top of the image, is just uninteresting and not creative...

is fine that they did that or if people liked this more, but is not creative and is something that I don't like to do, is something that I don't even want to judge... judging who used the best font and had the best position for the text on top of official images is not something that I can do

ps: talking about the static ones
