I await the Curse client to be used as a trojan injector for the 8,000th time. Either that or they'll get their database broken into... again.

Now that WoTPro is out and building fast we will be doing what we can to grow the modding community here some more.
I would really like to see some more variety in interface mods rather then just reskins of the already awesome ones. (Hmm, contest idea?)

Excellent map preview videos at WoTPro, as stated by OP. If you haven't seen yet, be sure to check out their site and videos!

This was an issue one time that directly resulted from a previously clean ad that was changed to take advantage of an extremely new flash exploit to deliver the virus. Curse was hardly the only website to be affected by this and the ad network quickly worked together to figure out how the ad was compromised and made it past everyone's combined virus filters. Such an infection is no longer possible and Curse takes more steps to ensure that their ads are safe than most of the sites you visit.
As far as the database leak goes, curse has not been hacked. False websites/client and other external vulnerabilities have led to phishing attempts that some users have interpreted as a hacked database simply because they only use that email for Curse.com. Services like GMail have been hacked in the past and it is not hard to scan those emails for references to WoW or related big name targets in order to gain access to blizzard accounts.
In the end Curse goes above and beyond the standard requirements and strives to make sure that you are safe. When it comes to mod installation you should take a step back and really analyze the options to decide which is more safe: Download from a site that scans mods for you and are personally installed by the moderators to ensure safety while only being served a small amount of ads that also go through several layers of security OR you can go to another site loaded with pop-ups and other intrusive ads that allow users to upload mods without any sort of scrutiny whatsoever.
Also, for the record, Relics and I are contractors. We're not Curse employees.
