Presuming WOT does well at GJS and we get a tier IX sale...

I should be in position to buy either one of these tanks - but not both. The question is, which one is the better choice?

Looks like:
  • the guns are compatable - slightly faster for the M-46, but more accurate for the E-50;
  • E-50 faster / better at ramming, M-46 better power to weight = quicker / nimble;
I am a bit torn on this one... I really like my German tanks - but am also having fun with the American Medium line.  The Patton looks like a fun tank to play, but then so does the E-50, for different reasons.

Suggestions appreciated!

- oh, and if you have looked at credit making of either tank, I'd like to see some numbers (I was surprised how much better the Easy 8 is at making credits than the VK 3601(H) - perhaps the Patton is not as costly as the E-50?).

M46 because I love the USA meds. I'd tell you why but I am about to go into a clan training. Basically the M48 is more likely to be used in clan wars than the E-50, and IMO is generally a better tank. It has the gun depression remember  :Smile_Default:

Personally, I think the German meds are the sex (despite really just playing up to the 3601; I like the concept of the tanks, at least), and I enjoy the long, snipey guns of German tanks, so I'd probably go for the E-50, if only because it has an 8.8m-long gun (because freakin' giant guns, brah).

I personally would go for the M46 Patton because it's just that more agile, and for a medium tank, that's life or death. The gun is obviously is better on the E-50 for sniping, but is on the downfall for up close and personal. They're both far up on the fun scale, but I think the E-50 pushes it a bit more on the fun scale because you can surprise buttsecks ram things for insane damage. I still would go for the M46 because it leads to the M48A1, which is just a great tank all round.

The M48A1 is the worst tier 10 medium as of now and the M46 is awful so go with the E-50.

Worst? It is by no means the best, but it isn't the worst.

I love the M46. E50 is OK in my opinion. M46 has good gun depression too.

  Second time I have heard that... But from what I see in pubs it does pretty well - you saying the M48A1 is not being used in CW, but the Ausf M is?

@ others:  I will admit to being frustrated with the lack of gun depression in the German line.  If there was one thing I would fix - that would be it.  I HATE cresting a hill just to get a shot off when the Chinese, American and Russian tanks can barely show the top of the turret and hit my lower glacis in my German tanks.

Most of the M48A1 players that I've seen get atleast 2-3 kills (Average) in a match. I have yet to see a good E50M player.

The grind inn the E-50 was brutal for me but well worth it. The grind so far in the Patton has been pretty decent, not without bumps but more enjoyable. Having both tanks  though the E-50 is more forgiving  for stupid choices than the Patton. ( I don't have the turret for the Patton nor the best engine yet so that is not a perfect comparison)

In a nutshell
E-50 for duking it out with tier 9 and 8 heavies and such
Patton for sniping and all around mobility
The T-54 for medium pack mayhem.

Greatly preferred my Patton, played hundreds of games in each.  Of course, nearly all of those games were before the nerfs that came along with the tier 10 mediums.

In my opinion, the Patton is (or at least, was) the tank best able to play like a medium.  It was perfectly versatile, able to take on nearly any role.  The gun depression and mobile accuracy allowed it to do things that the others simply could not.  It doesn't have the 50's ram capacity, or the 54's bouncy turret, or the Lorry's drum, but it can get the job done in any situation.

I have.  50M is a good pubstomper, when played right.

M46 if you want to be more flexible or for use in cooperative play.

E-50 for pubs/pubstomping/fun.

I loved the entire US line far more than the German line.  The M46 has great gun, depression is wonderful, and it is agile.  The E50 gets little love from me, just 17K xp from the 50M, but I really miss playing the M46 (I got the M48 now and its a great tank, but there was something about the M46 that I liked a bit more).

I actually just stripped all the gear off of my M48 and repurchased the M46.  The M48 was only a moderately bearable tank before the nerfs, but after it is just not any fun.

Once I rebought the M46, I started having fun again.  It surprised me what that odd feeling was when I was playing WOT.  It took me a couple rounds to realize that I was feeling joy...  Joy that had been otherwise sucked out of WOT by almost everything the WOT devs do.

T-54 is supposed to be pretty good after all the buffs.  I doubt they'll be nerfing it any time soon, since it's not blatantly OP like it was back in beta.

On paper the M46 seems like a better tank than the E-50 but I always seem to crush Pattons wherever I find them.

I've only played the E-50 but I never have trouble fighting either of the Pattons (though the M48 is much more of a challenge). A good thing to remember when fighting a M46 in an E-50 is that you have a 20 ton weight advantage on him, so make sure to use it. Now it's easy to use physics to bully a Patton in close quarters, pinning him against obstacles to negate his superior manueverability.

Neither of the tanks are used in CW if they can help it. It's all about Batchats, then some T-62As for sustained fire rather than burst (but still.....Batchats.)

M48 was always too slow.

E-50M had a huge profile for a medium. Also slow.
